As much as possible or invisible if you want. I will try to meet with arriving guests and show them the area. Whenever guests need information or recommendations, I am always available via messaging or phone.
A traditional neighborhood in Hong Kong steeped in culture and wonderful photo opportunities of "old Hong Kong." Getting to Central and all around Hong Kong is perfectly easy and within just minutes, you can be taken from the wet markets and dried seafood stalls of a seemingly by gone era then before you know it, sky scrappers towering over 100 stories tall put you right in the middle of this world class city. It's a great place to begin your exploration of Hong Kong.
Buses, trams, mini buses and taxis are all right outside on Des Voeux Road and can take you to Central, Admiralty, Wan Chai, Causewaybay and beyond. The Sheung Wan MTR is about a 11 min walk away and takes you through the wonderful Sheung Wan neighborhood.
Other Things to Note
Once you arrive in Hong Kong, everything is quite simple and all starts with a call from the FREE phones at the airport located in the hall immediately after you pass through baggage customs. There is also a Visitors Center there if you would like to pick up some maps, local travel guides, etc. to read on your way to the apartment. If you need a local SIM card, there is a 7-11 in the middle section of the main arrival hall where they see all types of SIM cards, I usually prefer the PCCW brand as it is the larges local operator.
This is a Strictly NON SMOKING Flat.
UPON ARRIVAL AT PROPERTY, ALL GUESTS MUST WAIT FOR ME AT THE FRONT GATE OUTSIDE OF THE BUILDING. BUILDING RESIDENTS WILL COMPLAIN TO PROPERTY MANAGEMENT IF THE LOBBY AREA INSIDE BUILDING IS BLOCKED. THANKS FOR YOUR KIND UNDERSTANDING FOR AN ENJOYABLE STAY.
Check in time is AFTER 12:30 pm. Make sure to contact us by phone at least 30 minutes prior to arrival such that we can meet you at the flat to hand you the keys and acquaint you to the surroundings. As this is a family business, please try your best to arrive at the apartment as early as possible. After 11:30pm as transport to the apartment is limited for us, we have to charge HKD150 to cover our taxi transport cost to and from the apartment. We are generally exhausted at the end of the day and we really would rather you arrive early and not have to charge this.
Guests must wait for us OUTSIDE the building upon arrival and not enter the building without us as this causes unnecessary misunderstandings with the property management and residents of the buildings.
Check out time is STRICT at 11:00 am. NO EXCEPTIONS or you will be charged for an extra full day. Our cleaning crew will arrive at 11:00 am to service the flat for the next guest, thanks for your cooperation.
Please help us save the environment by turning off electrical appliances when leaving the apartment or not using them.
Water heater needs to be turned off when not using. If it breaks due to prolonged time left on, you will not have any hot water for your stay and will be subject to expensive repair charges.
In the case that you have an evening departure flight:
Please note that you can check in your luggage at anytime during the same day as your flight at the Hong Kong Station Airport Express, which is only a 5 minute taxi or bus ride from the apartment. That way you would be free to explore the city on your last day, not having to worry about your luggage or rushing to the airport since you have already checked in, you will not have to be at the airport as early as everyone else.
All airlines flying from Hong Kong airport offer In Town check in, EXCEPT the following:
Jetstar Asia Airlines
Overall this experience got off to a bad start. Brendan requested us to provide us with our arrival time so that he could plan his day. We requested an early check-in as we were arriving early in the morning (Brendan said that he would send details of when we could check in and to call him at 10:30 on the morning of our arrival). As we did not receive these details I called at 10:30 but it appeared that Brendan did not remember our arrival. In any event he said that he would meet us in half an hour or so. After 50 mins I called again and a lady answered the phone and told us that Brendan was busy doing something else and anyway check in time was at 1:00. I told her about our arrangements and she said that Brendan would arrive in 10 mins. A few minutes later a man turned up to let us into the apartment and he told us that Brendan was busy. The apartment is in a good location and is for the most part as appears in the photos. As is mentioned by numerous other reviewers the bathroom floods whenever you have a shower as there is only a tiny hole in the wall. The taps are not in the shower so you have to reach outside and find the taps. Construction on a building across the road meant that there was constant jackhammering from 8:00 in the morning but it prompted us to out early and was not a real issue. It was really quiet at night and we did not hear the neighbours at all. The disappointing thing is that when I got home I happened to open my inbox to find an abusive email from Brendan telling me that I was rude to his mother by demanding that I get an early check in to his apartment!
The flat was indeed very cozy. The bathroom had some trouble draining water but Brendan came over right away to fix it. Other than that, everything was very nice.
Brendan's apartment is conveniently located to local trams, taxis and the metro. Restaurants and convenience stores are virtually on the doorstep. The very clean apartment has everything required for a comfortable stay. We were met by Veronica ( Brendan's mum ) who waited patiently for our arrival which was delayed by the lack of taxis from Hong Kong station. We enjoyed our stay and will certainly stay again if we return to Hong Kong. Based on feedback from other guests regarding a plumbing issue I contacted Brendan prior to our arrival and asked if the problem was resolved . He assured me that it was and this was the case. Brendan's place is extremely guest friendly. A tip if taxis are scarce at Hong Kong station. Take the free shuttle from H2 to Best Western Hotel.
We are a couple of very tall Western travelers on a budget. We needed to find a room that allowed enough space to move around, stored our luggage and fit our wallets. We found that and more with this apartment.
FIRST IMPRESSION: The room was as pictured, clean, airy and spacious. The room was well-stocked - we were provided power converters for the outlets, clean towels, and plenty of hangers and hooks. A ceiling fan, mini fridge, TV, blow dryer, iron + ironing board, tea kettle (we used to boil tap water into potable water), and huge mirror added to our comfort. Our host made sure we could get on the WiFi and showed us Brendan's Hong Kong contact number in just in case an issue did arise. Nothing did.
PRIVACY: We had great deal of privacy as 1 of 2 apartments on the floor, were a comfortable distance from neighboring windows, and heard no noise from next door our whole 6 day visit.
LOCATION: There was also a nice view looking toward Sheung Wan from the 19th floor. Some might consider the neighborhood (Sai Yung Pun) a bit of a hike from the nearest MTR stop, but we're New Yorkers and felt the walk was a comfortable distance, making the trip on foot to Central and back nearly every day. Besides that, there was a tram stop right on the main road 1/2 a block from the building's front door which we also frequently used (much more convenient, scenic, and charming than MTR).
CONSIDERATIONS: Had we stayed longer we'd have asked about having new fresh towels provided. If you are familiar with the common style of showers in Asia you won't be surprised. But if you are used to a high pressure, tall shower-heads, you may want to prepare yourself for something else. Water came from a heater, but was warm almost instantly.
Upon checking in, I had asked if we could keep a second key. Our host told us he had a spare and he would lend it us if we wanted, but that would leave him with no way to get into the apartment if an urgent incident occurred while we were out. The fact that he was thinking ahead enough to mention this yet also willing let us have our say in the matter let us know we were in thorough and hospitable hands.
Considering our budgets this place provided excellent comforts. We were extremely happy this find.
Over all we were satisfied with the appartment. It was clean, bed was ok and the look outside the window great. Unfortunately water from the Showgrößen came very poor. They tried 2 have it done by a plumber, but couldn't manage 2 during our stay. Didn't meet Brendan personally, but je was helpul with emails when needed. liked the neighbourhood with nice local restaurants, recommend the soups in the "Red Dragon".
We stayed for 3 nights in this place. Place was good and small (as expected). Location was nice and could get nice food nearby. Tram and bus was downstairs (within 100 meters). Buses were there directly to hongkong or Central MTR .
The only issue we had with the bathroom which was not at all good experience. If someone had shower then it becomes small pond and other person could not even stand in the bathroom (This was our first day experience). The same day someone came when we were not there and tried to fix it. But next day again same thing happen this time it happened only to Shower place but not pleasant na.
I would request Brendan to fix it as in other review also the same thing is written.
It was such a good having you stay with us Vineet ; we so enjoyed hosting you at our flat. You're just a fantastic guest! Thank you for choosing us.
Sorry about the bathroom. We tried fixing it while you were there; but I guess it didn't help enough. We are looking into the matter and hope it will be repaired in the next couple of days. We may need to put up scaffolding to repair it.

I was born in California and raised in Hong Kong. Went to college in the states and returned to Hong Kong a few years ago. I absolutely love travelling around the region but Hong Kong has always welcomed me home and I look forward to showing off my home town and sharing all the little insights and local specialities with all my guests!
