The 'rental' is wonderful, full kitchen with amenities, WiFi, laundry facilities, even a printer!
They had fresh fruits, milk, canned juices, bottled water ready for us in the refrigerator. Plus coffee, tea, cocoa mix, oatmeal, and granola bars. Plus a gift of island made lavosh!
Lots of reading material, covered parking.....this is better than a hotel!
We were there for 1 night, my 2 student state FCCLA officers, and myself - they were able to work in the living room to prepare for their workshop, were able to leave our "stuff" beyond the check out time! our workshop was scheduled for 9:30 till 2 pm.
In the hallway, there is a map with push pins, you will be able to see where their past guest were from, so interesting! This home has welcomed guest from around the world!
Thank you Hall family for making my student's first trip to Hilo a wonderful memory.
Awesome hosts! We invited them (to their own house) for a glass of champagne and had so much fun! These are friendly people who will appreciate your choice for privacy but delight in your company.
The house is great! They provided coffee, drinks, fruit, and other goodies and made us feel right at home. They made excellent recommendations for local sites and activities. Wish we could have stayed longer!
Many thanks to Chuck and Jan who treated us like family before we even stepped foot into their house. Chuck was responsive and thoughtful in setting up our stay, and the house was amazing: clean, fully stocked kitchen, great location, books for the kids, and wonderful hosts. Highly recommend for an affordable and truly authentic Hawaii experience that no hotel or tour could offer.
If you want to feel home, looking for a beautiful place to stay, get a feeling for how Hawaiians live, and have the best stay in Hilo, Charles Family Home is definitely the best you can find. My cousin and I got to stay 2 days at Charles home and we had the best time ever. I know JUST 2 days, but I ain't exaggerating when I am saying that Charles made these 2 day just perfect. He had his beautiful home set up with everything one needs, coffee, oatmeal, cereal bars, best fruit I've ever tasted, towels, Hawaii map, and a big folder full of information about the Big Island.
On top of all that (yep there is coming more!!!) he had two bikes for us ready to explore the Island with. A very special treat were the homemade soaked peanuts. I don't know how Charles makes them but they are delicious.
Charles was helpful in so many ways. He always responds to email and text messages and is there to answers all your questions. This trip felt 100% perfect and right, and let's be honest how many times can you say that a vacation was just perfect. It's either too expensive, dirty, bad service, or you get the worst weather ;-) at Charles lovely home we simply had the best time ever and didn't have to worry about a thing. Chuck thumbs up!!!!!! You are the BEST :-)
Awww, that's why I really enjoy doing this. You meet such wonderful, delightful, people. They become so special, so a part of your life, which is truly amazing. It's the true Aloha Spirit, like how it originated back when Hawaii was Hawaii and not "a tourist destination".
These 2 beautiful girls made me realize how much I take for granted living here on such a beautiful Island. They were so full of "youth and excitement"they appreciated everything on there visit here. They woke to each day with the excitement of their coming day of adventure. For Sabrina it could have been a cold storming rainy day but through her eyes all she saw was the beauty of it all. That's what was so amazing, these girls just brought out the goodness in life and it was very contagious. That's what I love about doing this Airbnb, people come into your life from all over the world and share their lives with you. If only for a moment, it last for a life time.
These 2 beautiful girls are always welcomed back to our Home. They were a joy to have on their visit, they left our home spotless, like no one was there. If anyone has the pleasure of hosting these 2 wonderful girls, you will definitely enjoy your time with them. Aloha my 2 friends from Germany/ part time New York city. A Hui Hou, till we meet again, Charles and Jan Hall
It is absolutely nice to stay with Charles and Jane. Not only their house is clean, neat and tidy, but also Charles provided all we need, in addition, their warm welcome, kindness, thoughtfulness, and amazing hospitality made us feel like staying at home. We'll definitely recommend their nice home to all who will visit Big Island in the future.
Helen and her family made the most of their time here in Hilo. We had a little time to talk in between their busily filled agenda. We love entertaining our guest during their stay with us. It was so much fun talking to Helen, telling us about all their sight seeing adventures. They were a joy to host and I would definitely welcome them to stay with us again. They were very friendly, happy, and a joy to talk stories with. Come back again Helen, A Hui Hou, till we meet again, Aloha,Charles and Jan
About the Host, Charles
Hi everyone, as you have read, my wife Jan and I have recently become empty nesters. Our children have all grown and have moved on to discover their own journeys of life. Our youngest son graduated from High school in 2012 and have since entered college on Oahu.
Boo Hoo now What??? We needed to get a life, again. No more getting the kids up for school, no more homework, soccer practice, football practice, games, excursions, PTA meetings, etc. We were suddenly blessed with time. SO.....
We discovered Airbnb when we went to Indiana for our daughters graduation from Bethel College in May of 2013. We got to visit with our host in Indiana, her name is Jill and she had a beautiful place which was absolutely perfect for our needs. We were so impressed by how it all works that we decided to offer our home and be a host to travelers.
A little about myself an our family. My profile name is Charles but my friends and family call me Chucky or Chuck.Since I have coached Youth sports for over 30 years most of my young acquaintances/ athletes call me Uncle Chuck. I am less then 55 years old, married to a beautiful wife name Jan. Our oldest son is in the Air Force and is stationed in Cambridge, England with his wife and our little precious grandson. Our daughter is doing her doctorate degree in physical therapy at the University of Colorado, Denver and our youngest son is in Oahu attending his first year at the University Of Hawaii at Manoa.

I have worked for Young Brothers since the age of 20 which makes it 34 years, since I'm less then 55 yrs old. We also have a little business that we operate, it's a wholesale business that supplies our retail stores with packaged"Fresh Boiled Peanuts". It's a business that we started a couple of years ago. It's a family thing that we all are involved in.
My wife Jan, and I have been married for 20+ years. She constantly supports me in all our new adventures, like Airbnb. She likes doing the behind the scene activities for our business, the books, the ordering. Like ordering me to do stuff lol. Jan currently works at the University of Hilo and has been there over 5 years. She has been with the DOE ( dept. of education) for 10 yrs.
