About our neighborhood: [Source: WikiTravel]
Bywater is a neighborhood a bit east (down river) from the French Quarter with a healthy mix of blue collar folks who grew up here, and more recent bohemian arrivals. Artists and musicians relocated here when the French Quarter became too pricy. It is primarily residential but undeniably hip; there are lively pubs, restaurants and randomly placed edgy found-object art scattered throughout the neighborhood. Travelers and residents from other parts of the city are steadily discovering this neighborhood's old-time, laid-back charm.

What can I say that hasn't been said in the other 96 reviews here. Stephen and Jim were fantastic hosts. We arrived at the airport rather late and didn't make it to the house until 11PM. Stephen and Jim were having cocktails in the garden patio area with a fire going when we arrived, and were eager to show us around the accommodation and invite us to join them! Cocktails on the patio along with a rousing discussion of the neighborhood and city was a great way to start the trip. They even accompanied us to a local bar later that evening.
As many others have mentioned, the hosts are knowledgable and available if you need them, but will give you your privacy if you don't. The house is great, complete with snacks, cereal, water, beer, OJ, wine, etc. The neighborhood is extremely charming and safe with lots within walking distance, include a pretty easy walk to the French Quarter.
We will definitely being coming back to see Stephen and Jim, this great neighborhood, and lovely city!
Stephen and Jim were wonderful hosts! The" Mazant" house was exceptional. I would compare it to a five star hotel and the location was great. Steps from the bus; winery; "The Joint"; the park.
Stephen and Jim made certain that our time at their location was exceptional. Not only did they keep in touch with us throughout the day to be sure we were doing alright with our first trip to NOLA, but took time out of their personal schedule to take us to see John Buttie, a local favorite; setting up a tour of the mansions; along with having dinner on their patio with a few of their friends, fire pit roaring and music that we all enjoyed.
Jim and Stephen are so knowledgeable of the NOLA area. Very patient and willing to take the time to answer all questions.
I will definitely go back to "Moon Over Mazant" be it to visit Stephen and Jim or to visit NOLA. It was a great experience overall!!!
Staying with Stephen and Jim in April was an excellent experience. I was at Moon Over Mazant to spend a few days' vacation with friends, and Stephen and Jim were the most considerate hosts. They showed us the odds and ends of the house, which was beautifully decorated, immaculate, and had all of the comforts of a home with some extras like cereal, wine, fresh fruit, and the fluffiest of towels. Jim also took us on a walk around the neighborhood to show us all of the hot spots.
But beyond all of that, our favorite part of the stay were the pre-dinner cocktails that we shared with Stephen and Jim. We were entertained thoroughly and will undoubtedly return again for a visit. The location of Moon Over Mazant is convenient to many good restaurants and a short stroll to Crescent Park where we spent an afternoon enjoying the river and city views. From our stay here, we could tell that Jim and Stephen are beautiful people that actually enjoy getting to know new people and entertaining. They made it extremely difficult to come back to my normal life sans patios and the hospitality of New Orleans.
We were airbnb virgins at the beginning of this, our first trip to the States, and were a tiny bit apprehensive. We need not have been! Jim was there to greet us, and showed us round this beautiful Shotgun house -nothing was too much trouble for him, we got a real good insight into the neighbourhood and New Orleans. Our next few airbnb stays have a lot to live up to - the bar has been set very high! Thank you very much Jim and Stephen
We had such a lovely stay at moon over mazant. Amazing hosts and such a impeccably clean and stylish apartment. Perfect place to come home to!
Moon Over Mazant is ideally situated in the city. It's close enough to the French Quarter that you can walk if you want and there are tons of great restaurants and a great local bar right around the corner as well as a brand new park right across the street. It's was Mardis Gras while we were in town and it was nice to have a place close (but not right in the middle of) the party zone to come back to. Stephen and Jim are really nice guys - they are there if you need them, but give you your privacy. We noted that there's not much of a sound barrier between their home and the BnB apartment, but noise was kept to a minimum after 11 p.m. We very much enjoyed our time in New Orleans and Moon Over Mazant really enhanced our experience. Thanks so much!
We LOVED staying at Stephen's place. This apartment/house is totally amazing. The beds were so comfortable and everything was spotless and beautifully decorated. I can't believe what a steal it is to stay in this amazing neighborhood in such a quaint place. Stephen is an awesome host who clearly loves what he does and loves Nola. Don't sleep on the BBQ place on the corner either. We will definitely be back!
I just spent a long weekend at Stephen and Jim's place in Bywater and it was great! Perfect accommodations for two old friends. They have thought of everything. The neighborhood was cool and had quite a few hidden gems. We enjoyed two breakfasts at Satsuma Cafe, and a great cheese plate and bottle of wine at Bacchanal. The Joint on the corner has ridiculously good bbq. You can catch the bus on the corner into the French Quarter (use the NORTA texting app - it's awesome). You can also walk (burn off those beignets!). I always have a great time in New Orleans, and this weekend was no exception. Highly recommend staying here. Thanks, Stephen and Jim.
This was our first AirBnB experience and it set the bar high. Moon Over Mazant is charming, cozy* and well-appointed. No kitchenette, but who wants to cook when you've got so much amazing food to sample in NOLA?! This is in heart of hipster Bywater, right off Royal St, which means loads of local charm, hipster bars and cafes, and a 1/2 hour-ish walk to the French Quarter. We love being off the beaten path and the owners have 2 bikes for tenant use, which we took advantage of. Prepare to cab it back after a night of music... the neighborhood seems safe but gets eerily quiet after dark (and during the day, for that matter). Musts in the hood: Elizabeth's for authentic cajun food, Satsuma Cafe for morning coffee or midday sandwiches, and dinner, and wine and music under the stars at Baccanale (one of our best meals in NOLA).
* our only issue with the bnb was that the heat blows unevenly and the bed in right next to the front door which can get drafty... not an issue most of the year, I'm sure, but we were there during an unusual cold snap and the room was uncomfortably cold after the sun went down. Still highly recommend and would otherwise give it 5 stars.
A very charming home! Beautifully decorated, comfortably appointed & great proximity to the French Quarter. We felt right at home here. Everything we could want for our 3.5 day stay was there. The decor was warm, functional & way above average. An easy (a 2 minute max walk to the bus stop & then a 15 minute bus ride to the French Quarter). If schedules allow, we would definitely stay here again.
