I'm a single female and have had the same female room mate now for 5 years. Lived in this complex for 13 years ,which is very safe because it is off the main highway.
Public transportation is just minutes away from our door.
Need a ride to the Kalalau Trail? My room mate drives people to the trail and back for a fee. Includes stopping for supplies.
You can rent a" tent for two", sleeping bags, lantern, stove, etc. from me if you feel like camping out or to take on the trail.
~Airport pickup/dropoff is available~ $30. each way
We had a nice stay in Tamara's cute room. We didn't meet Tamara personally, but her flatmate Ally welcomed us warmly and made sure everything was just great for us.
Unfortunately we did not meet Tamara because she was on vacation during our stay...But we met Ally her roommate and she was great! She has a little dog which is very cute :) The room had a good size, a fridge, a tv and an own entrance (backdoor). We even had our "own" bathroom next door. We were allowed to use the pool belonging to the house and to use the kitchen (including herbs and spices). Ally even provided a lot of super helpful books about Hawaii and especially about Kauai (we used this book during our whole stay and it helped a lot planning our activities) and she provided other stuff like sunscreen etc.
All in all its a nice clean room, with a nice host and a central location! We can definitely recommend Tamaras place!
If you are on Honeymoon or look for something very private its not the right choice for you!
We needed one quick night in town before hiking the Kalalau Trail and Tamara & Ally's place was perfect for that. Great location, comfortable room, and kind hosts. Thanks!
Tamara and Allie are great hosts! They are very welcoming, helpful and warmhearted people. Unfortunately, the weather was bad and we couldn't explore the island as we would have wished. So we spend more time in the house than intended, there we could move around freely.
I had such a great time staying with Tamara, that we remain friends after my time in Kauai. I would definitely stay with Tamara when I return. In addition, I would recommend her place to others.
We only spent one night at Tamara's, got there late and left early, but it was clean and nice! Thanks Tamara!
Tamara was very welcoming and friendly, and the room was clean and comfortable. I would clarify that although the room has a separate entrance (the back door), it is not separate from the condo. I would recommend this room to a single traveler looking for a simple and clean room on a budget, and in a family setting. I would not recommend this room for a couple looking for privacy, I personally felt a little uncomfortable there.
Tamara and Ally were generally welcoming. The space was great for the cost though a bit run down and cluttered with furniture. It did have everything needed for comfort, a small fridge, wi-fi, and a TV, as well as a bunch of books. Their willingness to drive us anywhere on the island for a cost much less than a cab was very convenient. The grounds were OK. Trash and recycling were close. Swimming pool was decent but hardly any pool side furniture and local kids were EXTREMELY profane at the pool which made it a lot less fun. The basketball and tennis courts are totally overgrown, un-kept and not usable. The gym was similarly un-kept and not usable. The location was great. Very close to town and the beach.
we appreciated our 2 nights stay, the room was nice, clean, we had a warm welcome and they offered us a really good paella, the place is well located, the small fridge and wi-fi are useful.
Tamara and Ally were more than great hosts... they were like family, as most of the other reviewers have said. We spent a lot of time with Ally, Quinn, and her son, as they drove us around on all our errands before hiking the Kalalau trail. Ally even gave us big hugs before we set out on the trail and was there promptly with Tamara and Quinn to pick us up 3 days later with cold beers and water! They took us on a little adventure (farmer's market, thrift store, fresh aloe vera pit stop) before dropping us off to get our rental car; we were so sad to bid them farewell.
Tamara and Ally are such warm, lively people, and we enjoyed every second with them. The room itself was quite a deal for the price we paid. We had our own bathroom and access to their kitchen for pre-hiking cooking. I wish we had the forethought to stay with them longer than 1 night - hopefully you do!
