The neighborhood is a more residential section of Hollywood. But it's still Hollywood, which means you get a lot of different elements and groups of people. It's diverse. I often say it's like living a little bit OFF Times Square. There's the 101 a few blocks away though and we're bordering on Los Feliz, lovely Larchmont, Melrose Hill Historic district bungalows, organic markets, regular grocery stores, and high end restaurants, new luxury high rises... as well as your less adorable elements like 99 cent stores. You've got everything! It's not Beverly Hills, but it's way more fun.
There are several metro stops about 10 and 15 minutes walk, but I never advise using the metro in LA, especially not at night. But for day uses, it's fine and cheap. Look for Hollywood & Western stop or Santa Monica & Vermont. Buses are all over too, but that system is more complicated than I've ever chosen to explore.
Other Things to Note
This is my home. I love it dearly and I try to provide guests with all the necessaries to make it as homey for them as it is for me. But since I am quite generous with my home supplies, please treat it as as a home and be respectful of it. I have had guests lately who have been a little rough with my things.
No smoking or loud noise
Until recently I never thought it was worth mentioning, but a few people have been pretty careless when it comes to dirty/muddy shoes on my light colored carpet. So I have a pretty serious no shoes policy. Also, I can't believe I have to say this: PLEASE DONT REARRANGE MY FURNITURE.
Ryann was super responsive and quick to answer all questions, even though she was in Europe at the time we set up the rental. She had easy instructions to get into the place, which was clean and tidy and is exactly as it looks in the pictures. We'd stay again!
Ryann's apartment was a wonderful retreat in Hollywood. We had come to town for a Let's Make a Deal taping and the studio was only a few blocks away. The heart of Hollywood is a 5 minute drive/taxi/Uber ride away. Ryann goes above and beyond to ensure that your stay is perfect. We highly recommend Ryann's apartment.
Ryann was a perfect host. Even as she was busy trying to head out of town herself, she had everything laid out for me and a local guide to just about everything I needed on my stay. Her apartment is very charming and perfect for me as a single traveler.
The building is secure and the neighborhood very friendly. The location was absolutely perfect, just two blocks or so to Santa Monica Blvd.
Although I had a car, I reserved it for longer excursions. Around town, Uber was best and so very easy. I'm not sure I would need a car next time.
I highly recommend Ryann and her space, it's perfect for 1-2 travelers.
We really enjoyed our stay at Ryann's apartment in Los Angeles. The location was very convenient to favorite Hollywood shopping and dining spots. Parking can be a challenge in that area but Ryann made sure we had neighborhood parking passes that saved the day. Her apartment is clean and comfortable and a pleasure to come "home" to after a big day seeing the sights. Ryann was flexible on our arrival when our flight was late and very helpful with suggestions on places to dine and explore. I hope we can stay there everytime we visit LA.
I had a wonderful stay! For a solo trip, I had all the comfort I could want, kept entertained, and have no worries. Having access to her computer was perfect since it made research easier (even though I had a tablet with me). Ryann was accommodating with access to her stuff. Even though we never met in person, we'd communicated just fine with phone calls/text. Highly recommended, and definitely will come back for the next trip!
Ryann war super spontan, freundlich und hilfsbereit. Ihre Wohnung klein aber fein und super gelegen.
Ryan was extremely accommodating and did a great job of walking around her property, giving me a detail tour of her place! She was very welcoming and felt like I was visiting a friend. Ryan's place is very charming and very well kept. I look forward to staying at her place again and would recommend this to everyone!

About the Host, Ryann
I'm a writer and film editor from New York who just finished a whirlwind two years in Scotland and London. Now I'm in Los Angeles, writing away and enjoying the sunshine. I miss NYC, not to mention all the beautiful places I've travelled to in Europe, but I love living & working in Los Angeles.
