I have a large second story apartment in a quiet residential complex made up of mostly Mexican families and a few expats. My apartment is home to a couple of lovely kitties who are very chill and split their time between running around outside and lounging around the house.
The room is quite large with a queen size bed, dresser and hanging open closet. Overhead ceiling fan and A/C will keep you nice and cool for sleeping. The room has it´s own private bath and shower. I provide guests with clean sheets, bath towel and bath essentials. I have beach towels for rent at a minimal cost. Guests can use the kitchen and common areas and have WiFi access. There is off street parking within the complex if you are arriving by car.
The area is a few blocks from La Madera beach and a quick walk into downtown Zihuatanejo. It´s a great base to explore the town and within walking distance to all beaches within the bay (La Ropa, La Madera and Las Gatas).
Nearby is downtown "el centro" with many restaurants, farmers market (as well as a weekly organic market), shops, cafes, bars and banks. If you prefer to get a ride to the beach, you'll find plenty of taxis and frequent mini-buses that shuttle back and forth between beaches and downtown, just a block from the apartment. Renting a car is not really necessary.
If you are interested in language exchange programs, cooking classes, surfing, scuba, snorkeling, yoga, cultural excursions, etc, I've lived in the area for over 9 years and am happy to provide insider info and recommendations on what to do and where to go! Ask me about the local hot springs and waterfalls ... these are places even some long time Zihua residents have yet to find ;)
Our international airport is only a fifteen minute ride from my place and you can either opt for a private taxi, local collectivo van or I can arrange to pick you up for a minimal charge.
If you want to have an authentic Zihua experience, meet the locals and get a real taste for the area, you should definitely come stay with me !!
Bienvenidos a Zihuatanejo !
Guests will have access to the kitchen, dining room and living area.
Interaction with Guests
I will be present during my guests stay to help orient them here and get them set up with any kind of activities they might be interested in.
I love my neighborhood, its close to the beach and also a quick walk into downtown. The neighborhood is Mexican and local with just a couple of gringos living in the complex. I like the familiar feel and all the neighbors here are really friendly.
There is convenient public transportation to the beach and also to downtown. Mostly everything is within a quick walk.
Other Things to Note
I have two kitties who will be in and out of the apartment. They are very affectionate and friendly but if you have allergies or don't like cats this may not be the place for you.
The rules of the house are pretty simple. Renters are free to use the common areas and the kitchen. I prefer to rent to non-smokers but there is a garden area outside if you do smoke.
I work from home so I'd be around but mostly working on my computer and listening to music with my headphones on. Basically I just ask that renters keep their area tidy and respect appropriate noise levels (listening to music is fine but blasting pantera at 2am would be pushing it).
There's no curfew, but obviously if you are going to go out and party just try to be quiet when coming back to my place. Oh and please no friends or strangers over.
It was fun staying at her place. She told us about a lot of places to go, eat and do which was pretty useful. La madera, which is less than a 5 min walk, is not a very nice beach kind of crowded, small and not that nice but there is la ropa which is more like a 10-15 min walk which is a beautiful beach. I recommend the place maybe more during winter because summer is so hot in zihua.
I loved my stay with Maura!! She is so incredibly sweet and nice. She is very knowledgeable on Zihuatanejo and introduced me to wonderful surf instructors and yoga classes and had a very easy guide of the city. I felt right at home the minute she picked me up from the airport. Her apartment is very nice, food was delicious. We ran out of water once but thats what happens sometimes in mexico. Just part of the experience
This was a clean but dated apartment in a good location in the town; near the beaches and center but away from the noise and activity. Somewhat pricey option compared to nearby hotels. We were offered fruit, pastries and coffee each morning and unencumbered use of the kitchen. Maura is very pleasant and unobtrusive but we still did not feel comfortable spreading out into areas beyond the rented bedroom (this may just be our inexperience in such environments.) The "house rules" expected us to clean the shower, toilet and bedroom upon leaving which we thought a bit much for $55 per night. Small criticisms for an enjoyable stay.
Maura's place is in a great location and she was very helpful for all aspects of our trip. She brought us to & from the airport, recommended restaurants and activities, and had a "guidebook" of her recommendations and corresponding maps. She knows a lot about Zihua and loves to help guests find their way around and enjoy their time. Her wifi wasn't working (she had told us this before we arrived) but we were able to use her neighbor's password. We felt very welcome and only wish we could have stayed longer! We will definitely contact her if/when we return to Zihua!
This might be the easiest place to stay in Zihua. Situated in a purely Mexican neighbourhood, it is ten minutes on foot from downtown, twenty on foot to La Ropa and maybe ten to La Madera. Staying at Maura's place is like staying with a friend. Her second floor apartment is bright, homey and safe, the guest bedroom is simple and clean with its own shower and bathroom, and Maura is an excellent host. Friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable, she made us feel totally at home, offered good suggestions on things to do in and around Zihua, steered us to great places to eat, and tried to solve specific requests we had. If we come back to Zihua, we're staying here again!
Maura's is a lovely, knowledgeable host. Her place Is clean and spacious, but mostly I enjoyed the location. The local residents and restaurants went out of their way to make me feel right at home.
Staying with Maura was absolutely wonderful. Comfortable and clean room with very quiet neighbors in a safe neighborhood. 5 minutes walk from the beach and 10 minutes from El Centro; we couldn't have asked for a better location. All of her food recommendations were excellent; never disappointed. She even helped set us up with surfing and diving! We can't wait to come back! We highly recommended staying here if you're looking for an awesome, local Zihua experience!

About the Host, Maura
I'm originally from NYC but have been living in this pacific coastal paradise for almost 8 years. I love to surf, scuba dive, sail, snowboard and travel. Basically anything involving the ocean or the mountains is where I am most happy. I just started to host people through the airbnb website and I am really enjoying the experience. The place where I live is a real paradise and I look forward to showing guests around and giving recommendations on local spots and things to do!!
