A private suite in a shared apartment in a high-rise in the center of the central business district. Fitness center and convenience grocer in the building. Parking is included in the building's attached parking structure.
The Northwest balcony view includes the Michigan Theatre, where Henry Ford built his quadracycle and parts of "8 Mile" were filmed.
My partner and I share a two-bedroom two-bathroom apartment in a high-rise downtown. We're in the middle of the Central Business District, next to the transit center.
Attractions within a ten-minute walk include the stadiums Ford Field, Comerica Park and Joe Louis Arena, the second-largest theatre district in the united states including the Detroit Opera House, Music Hall, Fox, Fillmore, Elizabeth and Gem Theatres, over 150 bars and restaurants, Cobo Hall, home of the International Auto Show, Hart Plaza, home to Movement, Detroit's electronic music festival, Campus Martius Park, one of the top public spaces in the nation, two casinos, the region's flagship YMCA, amazing architecture and history, the Greektown district, and the trendy Corktown neighborhood.
Each of the bedrooms have their own private bathroom and are located on opposite ends of the apartment with the common areas in the middle. One of them is occupied by us. The available room pictured here contains a queen-sized bed, desk, walk-in closet and dresser, and its bathroom contains a tub with shower.
I love introducing people to the city, running a service called Backseat Detroit Tours. I also help people to "live, work and engage" in Detroit as a tour guide for D:Hive, our city's welcome center. My partner is a veterinarian. We're in the suite on the opposite side of the apartment, separated from the available suite by the common area which contains the living room, kitchen, dining area and West-facing balcony.
The Rosa Parks Transit Center, one block away, is the terminus for the city (DDOT) and suburban (SMART) bus systems and also a stop for Megabus and the Transit Windsor Tunnel Bus to Canada. Greyhound is a ten-minute walk. The Amtrak station is four miles up Woodward Avenue, and the bus to connect to it ends here as well. The building is attached to the Times Square People Mover stop, a monorail serving downtown.
We're pretty social and often spend time with our guests when it's possible to do so. My partner often works nights, so we can be up late, but the apartment features concrete walls and almost all sound comes from the street and not from adjacent rooms.
We have a PC hooked up to a projector with a surround sound system that can be used for iTunes, Netflix, video games, DVDs, etc. Wi-fi is provided.
There's a convenience grocer, pharmacy, and a laundry facility in the building.
Included in your booking is one 24-hour parking voucher per day you book. This gives you access to the parking structure making up the first five floors of the apartment complex. It does *not* provide "in-and-out" parking, but if you need more passes they can be purchased from us or the garage for $10 each. Many guests will park their car for the duration of their stay and use Uber and Lyft for short trips around the city.
Smoking is allowed on the balcony.
When you book, please let me know what time you would like to check in.
Smoking is allowed on the balcony. Use of the common areas in the building such as the club level must be accompanied by a resident.
What a wonderful location, lovely, friendly hosts and a perfect layout for sharing a space! We were so busy exploring that we didn't see Matt and Joe after the first evening but they were kind enough to share their pizza and experiences in Detroit with us. The layout of the apartment was really great with the bedrooms and bathrooms on opposite ends and with an additional door closing our area off. As we had to get up early the first morning this was great as we didn't want to wake anyone! We would highly recommend booking with them and would stay here again!
A great experience. The place was well located and exactly as described. Joe was the consummate hosts- welcoming and a true font of knowledge of the city with a passion for Detroit. Matt was generous and fun to connect with as well. I would definitely stay with them again when I am in Detroit again.
Joe was very welcoming. Everything worked out easily, he responds to messages quickly and is very nice. I wish I would have had more time to talk to him and Matt. He seems to know everything about the city and how it's changing and can give you tips about activities, restaurants, bars...
The apartment is modern and clean, the view is amazing, the room has its own bathroom and is very private, and the location was perfect for me. I could walk everywhere that I needed to go.
Highly recommend staying with Joe!
I had recently a wonderful trip to Detroit, much of which was the result of Joseph's witty, charming personality and gracious hospitality. He has extensive knowledge of Detroit (both historical and current), and also has a unique multimedia project, which kept me intrigued throughout my visit. Plus, if you like coffee (or coffee houses), you're in luck, as Joseph knows a number of local picks.
The accommodations were excellent, located in a modern, clean, and central downtown building. Also, the layout of his apartment is perfect, as I had my own bedroom and bathroom separated from the rest of the unit. I couldn't be more satisfied with my stay.
Joe was a great host. He is very knowledgeable about Detroit, current Detroit events, and history. Joe was very accomodating on our tours. We had a great downtown walking tour on our arrival, and a very interesting drive around Detroit on our 2nd day. Thanks, Joe, for a great experience!
Both my sister and I had never been to Detroit before, but from the moment we got there Joseph made us feel welcome.
We got in pretty late but still wanted to see some of the town. Joseph knew exactly where to take us for some great music and atmosphere. He is very knowledgable about the city, which was helpful for us since we had never been there.
Overall I don't think our stay in Detroit would have been as enjoyable had we stayed elsewhere.
Thanks for the great time Joseph! Hope to see you in Toronto :)
Joe and Matt were great hosts! I very much enjoyed and appreciated the time we got to hang out when I was not working.
The room was great and all I needed. The location is great, right in downtown and accessible by foot to many places.
Definitely recommend these gents and their digs!
