Situated along the South Western coast of Sri Lanka, the property is simply 134 km and a 90 minute drive from Colombo with direct access from the Southern Expressway and 15 km South of the historic Galle Fort. It is also 15 km North of Weligama and Mirissa Bay, under 1 km and minutes inland from the pristine Ahangama and Kabalana Beach and within a 2 km ranging distance from the largest lake in Sri Lanka, Koggala Lake
Good location for both Galle and Mirissa, nicely secluded in a quiet village location; a place to escape to after a busy day of activities or sun-worship. The rustic charm of the place suited us, as the kids could relax. A few gripes were sorted out quite quickly.
its actually not located in Galle, 20 kms east. (I don't know why but the map given by airbnb is not correct, seems the house just near the old Galle city, and tooks Rs1000 and 40 minutes to get to Galle actually ). Hidden in a beautiful country village across the rail road. (a little hard to find) . The house it self serves up to over 10 person and its a very local feeling to stay at the house.
Ahangama house suited our trip perfectly. We travelled with a group of ten so the four bathrooms were very useful. The house is set back from the main road and beach (10 minute walk) which was quite nice in many ways. The surrounding gardens were great to relax in and the house itself was beautiful. The staff were great and more than willing to accommodate our dietary wishes. I recommend the place for large groups. While ahangama does not have as many things going on in it the beach is perfectly uncrowded, the locals friendly and the nearby "resort beaches" of Unawatuna and Marissa are only a cheap and quick (and scary) bus trip away. The house served as a good base to explore the local area and to get to the aforementioned resort towns.
Hey Harry! Thank you for that lovely review. We are so thrilled that you guys enjoyed Ahangama House and we were glad to see to your every need! Thank you for choosing us to be your hosts and for Ahangama House to be the destination where you all made new memories. Good luck with everything! We hope to see you soon.
Lovely place in a great setting. My family loved staying at Ahangama House and wished our stay was longer. Kids had a great time playing in the large garden that's when they were not splashing in their own little stretch of beach down the road a short walk away.
Anushika made us feel very welcome and was attentive to what we would require. She even organised dinner for all at short notice when our party took time to arrive. The care takers of the place were lovely and took great effort to make us comfortable yet managed to somehow cloak their presence :)
Ahangama House is everything as described. The little pool in front of the house would have been lovely if it was full. Maybe next time.
We took lovely memories from this place, and one day will renew them. Thanks and love!
Our stay at Ahangama guest house was wonderful. So much better than staying at a hotel or a resort as we felt like we were properly experiencing Sri Lanka. Unfortunately Anushika and her husband were away for New Year so we did not get to meet them personally but they were brilliant at staying in touch before and during our stay and helping out with their local knowledge of the area. Abay, their housekeeper was on hand to look after us with a delicious dinner on arrival and lovely breakfasts waiting for us every morning when we woke up. We each had our own double bedroom and bathroom to ourselves. Obviously being this rural there was the odd creepie crawlie but everything was clean and comfortable. The beach is only ten mins walk away max and is much more beautiful and quieter than the more commercial beaches. This is a lovely spacious home from home in beautiful surroundings run by lovely hosts.
Dommage.
Bernard and his guests were easy to communicate with and even though I could not meet them personally - Romma, my husband was pleased to do so. They enjoyed their time very much at Ahangama and we are glad that they appreciated so many things about the property vis a vis the location, the quiet environment, the garden, service, and the breakfasts and dinners. We take their comments about the decor, furniture and cleanliness of the house in the same constructive manner in which it was made. We have already taken measures to address some of these areas flagged and we thank Bernard for this.
We visited Ahangama House for 9 days. In general, we were all really satisfied. The yard was beautiful and rooms fitted to our needs. This place is good for surfers also, because it is situated near the spots. Only 10 min walk to the beach with a challenging surf spot. This is a good location for longer stay. Food was great and housekeepers friendly. One thing to mention about was the kitchen: it was a bit dirty so if you are planning to make your own food, this is maybe not the place.
Anna and her friends were the perfect group of travellers and the type of travellers that we, at Ahangama House, look forward to hosting. They were a group of 8 guests friends - who settled so brilliantly into the place - and really completed Ahangama House - so well. They brought hammocks - they would spend days relaxing by the plunge pool and the paddy fields!! We thank you for your stay and your review - we appreciate your feedback on the kitchen - and have already taken steps to address same, including tiling and ordering cupboards for the wood fire section. It is a wood fire kitchen - which is typical of a Sri Lankan village - and thus can have that smokey look. Will definitely take your comments into account. Happy travels you guys!

We are every bit a Sri Lankan family ( Me, my husband, Romma and our 3 amazing kids) based predominantly in Colombo - and on occasion (not as often as we would like) make it to our properties in Ahangama and Nilaveli. So for those of you booking Ahangama House or Nilaveli House - please be informed that we are not based at either of these properties - but our respective caretakers will take good care of you.
We love to travel this Island, soaking in the diversity, exploring and winding down. We feel that the most amazing two things about sunny Sri Lanka is the variety of options for any traveller - all packed into this tiny little island, AND of course the Sri Lankan people.
We look forward to being your hosts and invite you to come stay in our home and experience true Sri Lankan hospitality. However, due to our busy work schedule and shuttling back and forth with our kids, we may not always have the opportunity to meet with our guests - but our loyal and warm caretakers will always be around, ready to see to their every need.
For any of you who has a bit of spare time to read a little bit about ourselves - here goes. We have had the good fortune of travelling in many continents. I grew up hopping from country to country accompanying my dad, who served in the Sri Lankan Foreign Service and every time I did, I couldn't wait to come back home and watch through the shutters as our plane landed in the midst of lush green paddy fields and coconut trees, surrounded by pristine teal waters of the Indian Ocean.
My husband, an electrical engineer by training and a leisure traveller/ entrepreneur through experience, chose to come back home to live in Sri Lanka, after studying and working for over 8 years in USA and working extensively in the Asia Pacific Region.
Again, we invite you and welcome you to our Island and to our home!!
