It’s much more than a single room, a little less than a whole house. Welcome to the Pierce Street Suite, which occupies the entire top-floor attic of a 1896 Queen Anne Victorian, right in the heart of San Francisco’s uber-requested neighborhood, the Lower Haight / Duboce Triangle.
First, the space you’ll be occupying: bright and airy, clean and cozy, we've just remodeled our attic floor, a project which was completed in October 2012, and had been originally executed for the daughter of the house, who picked up and returned to Italy in November. of 2012. She married the Italian twice in 2014 (once in SF and once in Italy) and a granddaughter is expected in April 2015.
Her loss is your gain. Ask me about it when you get here over a glass of wine; it's a good story.
This attic is...well, everything you'd want a remodeled Victorian attic to be: sloped ceilings, lots of skylights, with original redwood flooring and walls. There's a modern, deluxe bathroom with a huge tiled shower. There's also a small but serviceable kitchenette with a mini-fridge and microwave, so you can make coffee, tea, drink wine, heat left-overs from San Francisco's wonderful restaurants and eat snacks. There's a separate bedroom with a cozy sleeping nook, with a super comfortable queen-sized bed and ample space for clothes. The main living area includes a work space with writing desk, loveseat (that pulls out into a twin bed), and a bookshelf full of books, many of which are in Italian. The space is perfect for 1 or 2 people, who appreciate quiet and privacy, but also enjoy having a local host around. While the attic can theoretically accommodate three people (using the love seat pullout or a single futon), the third person is generally limited to a child over the age of five.
I was born in S.F. and have been living in this house since 1976. There's a private washer and dryer in the basement should you need them. Sometimes--not always--there is a very shy dog named Clipper, so anyone allergic should know this. But she's very sweet.
Now, the neighborhood. Objectively, it's probably one of the city's best locations: the Lower Haight is easy walking distance to the Haight, the Castro, the Mission, the Fillmore, Hayes Valley. Two blocks to the left is the spacious, sunny Duboce Park, and two blocks to the right, the legendary Alamo Square with its Painted Ladies. There's more public transportation than you will know what to do with: buses and streetcars will easily take you downtown, to Golden Gate Park, or to the Marina / Chrissy Fields.
The Pierce Street Suite is a very special place. It was created with a lot of love, and this house has been occupied by the same family for more than 35 years. Since I am now an empty-nester, I often have out of town friends and/or family members staying in the main part of the house. I look forward to meeting you and making your stay in the World's Best City something to remember and cherish.
Other Things to Note
The attic is designed for two adults so the third person is normally limited to a child over the age of five.
California is in the midst of a serious drought so I ask that you shower quickly and be aware of your use of water.
Please treat my house as you would your own.
I'm a little compulsive re. lights and heat being turned off when no one is around.
No smoking please.
Since the attic sleeping area is right above master bedroom, shoe removal is appreciated.
There are space heaters. However, please do not use a space heater and the microwave at the same time.
Have a wonderful visit.
I had a fantastic time at Jane's Attic! It is the perfect combination of having your own private apartment but inside a beautiful house. It has all commodities any traveller might need: a nice bathroom, kitchen with snacks and drinks and a very comfy bed. All decorated with care and attention to detail.
The neighbourhood is hands down on of the best in the city, quite and beautiful but yet very central. A lot of great food options at walking distance and well communicated.
Jane made me feel welcomed since the first day I arrived, she was really kind and friendly - I'd love to have the opportunity to spend some more days in there next time I visit the city!
Jane was always available to receive our phone calls and text messages. She was there to greet us on arrival and at departure. Jane is very pleasant and we most certainly felt welcome in her lovely San Francisco home. Classic Lower Haight neighborhood with close walking proximity to restaurants, specialty grocery stores, coffee shops, public trans. and city parks. The third floor accommodations were very clean and exactly as advertised. Very quiet atmosphere. Little noticeable street noise. We look forward to staying at Jane's home again.
The attic was a very comfortable retreat in the city. Jane was the perfect host.
Staying at Jane's place was my first Airbnb experience and it will be a tough act to follow.
The attic suite is just as shown in the pictures and given it is on the top floor with its own kitchen and bathroom, there is complete privacy. The place is very clean and has a very welcoming setup. I felt at 'home' when I was staying there. The neighbourhood was wonderful as well. It has lots of charming cafes and restaurant within walking distance full of San Franciscans. I have visited San Fran a number of times, but this is the first time I get to see the real San Francisco. Transportation was very convenient as well. Walking distance to muni tram line which worked out great to me as I had to get to financial district every day during rush hour.
Jane was extremely helpful with all my questions and flexible with my hours. She definitely put in the effort in making the place welcoming and comfortable, from the chocolate in the bowl (which I enjoyed very much as late night snack) to the storage spaces setup.
I can't imagine a better first experience with Airbnb!
It was amazing to live on the top of a victorian house and see the sun through a window over your bed. Close to everything and a quiet area where you can also relax. I am very happy with my stay. Jane was a wonderful host
We spent 8 days in Jane's beautiful attic and we had a wonderful time. The attic is large and comfortable, perfect for 2 people, bright and tastefully decorated. The location is perfect, in a beautiful neighborhood with tons of restaurants, small shops & bars in walking distance. Bus and Muni underground stops are very close and make easy to reach the downtown and explore the rest of the city. Jane was an incredible host, since we confirmed our reservation. During our stay in the attic she was very helpful and ready to provide us with information and suggestions. We loved our stay and highly recommend the attic to have a wonderful time in San Francisco.
This was the perfect place for our stay in San Francisco. The photos of the attic suite don't do it justice. It is a cozy, quiet yet central place in a fun neighborhood, impeccably decorated and clean, very spacious and comfortable. Jane was an amazing host, offering us helpful tips of places to eat in the neighborhood and things to do (and not to do) in San Francisco. She has a great attention to detail, and we were pleasantly surprised by welcoming touches such as coffee, tea and milk in the kitchen. The neighborhood is also ideally situated near MUNI and bus lines as well as within short walking/running/biking distance from Golden Gate Park. This was the first time we had booked through AirBnB and we know it will be tough to top this experience. We cannot recommend Jane's attic highly enough!
I'm an enthusiastic bicyclist who works as a family lawyer to keep myself in bike socks. Born in San Francisco, grew up near Stanford University, and moved around a lot before I got back to San Francisco in 1976. I've raised two children in this house and they've always claimed they grew up in the best neighborhood in San Francisco.
Since both my children live elsewhere (but have left their hearts in San Francisco), I'm now occupying this 4-story Victorian on my own--sometimes accompanied by my very shy dog, who prefers the Sierra foothills, where I often go on the weekends. I love meeting new people, but can assure you that you'll have plenty of privacy, as the Attic Suite is on the top floor and is quite separate from the main house.
I travel often to Europe to visit my daughter (here we are in Italy a few years ago), and spent two years living and teaching in Africa. This is a wonderful city and a dynamic, friendly neighborhood that I feel fortunate to live in and share.
