Charming and rustic-styled self-contained one bedroom apartment -- not a studio but a proper apartment with a good sized eat-in kitchen and a separate living room. The apartment is in the Lilli Pilli area of Byron town. It's light-filled and breezy and there is a shaded verandah for relaxing on. The apartment is attached to, but totally separate from, our house. We are on hand if you need anything but will give you all the privacy you want.
The apartment is spacious, clean and very comfortable. The bedroom has a king sized bed or can be configured for two singles sharing a room.
We have a large garden for your enjoyment filled with tall shade trees. Relax in our hammock chairs with a book or a drink.
The kitchen is well equipped if you want to self-cater. There is a small oven with two hotplates. There is also a rice cooker, toaster and kettle. We provide a stove-top espresso maker and a coffee plunger. Tea, coffee (real, not instant) and milk are provided and a few essential ingredients. There is also a barbeque for your exclusive use.
Our rates are in most cases better than the double rooms offered by some hostels in town but here you will find far more charm, character and privacy. And you have your own separate kitchen and living room.
We are on the outskirts of town. It is close enough to walk almost everywhere but far enough out of town to not be affected by the chaos that can make the centre of Byron a bit crazy in high season. There is a short walk along a bush track to Tallow Beach or a 20-25 min walk to the middle of town. Lilli Pilli is a quiet area of Byron town fringed by a nature reserve with koala habitat. We had a koala in the garden one night recently! Really!
There is a great little cafe on the corner just near our place, The Roadhouse. It's open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and is also a whiskey bar at night! You can walk to the Palace Cinema complex and local restaurants and bars. Also check out the Pighouse Flicks cushion cinema which has mostly recent release arthouse/independent films. They are in the Byron Bay Brewery/Buddha Bar complex which has a courtesy shuttle bus that goes from town out to the Brewery and back.
Two bikes are available for guests to use to get around town. Free unlimited WiFi. DVD player and TV.
Sheets and towels - bath and beach - are provided.
***PLEASE NOTE in Dec/Jan we have a minimum stay of 3 nights.
Infants stay free - we have a travel cot. Please remember if you are bringing small children that we have a dog. He is totally friendly but if your child doesn't like dogs then you should probably choose different accommodation.
The garden is a shared space - we have a very friendly dog and two children. The trampoline and hammock chairs are yours to share. You will find them unoccupied most of the time.
You can walk down to the groovy Roadhouse cafe/restaurant. It is a happening bar at night. Walk to Tallows Beach and the tea tree lakes - said to be very healing.
Other Things to Note
We can tell you about some of Byron's secret spots.
This is NOT a party house. We are in a quiet, family area of Byron and the apartment is adjacent to our home and we expect guests to come and enjoy the accommodation in the calm and relaxed manner that makes Byron Bay so special a place to visit.
Bikes are available for guests' use but you are liable for any theft or damage whilst using them. Locks and chains are provided.
Smoking is allowed on the verandah only.
Catherine and her family are very nice, friendly and helpful. They gave me lots of recommendations for food and local knowledge. She even took me to the morning run to the famous Byron lighthouse. Thanks again for that. The house is perfect, clean and there was everything you need (coffee,...) and easy to find. By bike it is appro. 10 minutes to town. I stayed 5 days there...too bad it was raining for 3 days, but I had a chilled and relaxed time and i defininately recommend Catherines house. If i come back to byron, i will stay there again!
Our hosts were very welcoming & friendly & allowed us shared use of their garden which was a gentle reprieve from the summer heat. Our place was a little too close to the host's veranda for our personal sense of privacy but it was a very lovely, rustic & comfortable flat with all we needed.
I can't praise this gorgeous little apartment and Catherine and her family highly enough. The space is gorgeous, full of quirky touches and with everything you'd need for a lovely stay. The verandah and garden are really pretty and there's a HUGE mango tree - the only pity was that the mangos weren't ripe enough to pick yet!
We made a visit to the Tea Tree lake (a short walk away) and that was truly one of the great highlights of our trip. Simply stunning. Words (almost!) fail me.
I will certainly be recommending this place to everyone I know visiting Byron Bay. Thank you Catherine, Philip and boys for your wonderful hospitality.
Host was very welcoming and the apt was quite lovely. However it's important for guests to know that this space is not altogether private, it is attached to the house and adjacent to the back garden, which the family uses quite often (as they should, it is quite beautiful). The wall separating the apt from the back garden is made up of sliding glass doors, which one keeps open most of the time, as it is a tropical environment. However this means that noise really carries from their space to the apt (and vice versa I am sure), which means guests are privy to their daily lives, including their social gatherings. The hosts were quite apologetic and sweet when we felt compelled to speak to them about it, and I hesitate to even mention it here as we are the last people to want to complain about something like this, but I do think it's important for people to know, as if we had, we would probably have chosen a quieter, more secluded spot. Had a great time though and overall hosts were really nice and space was comfortable, rustic, and charming.
We enjoyed our week at catherines despite it raining for most of it.
The place is quiet in a leafy street within walking distance of townand beach.
Our host was very obliging yet gave us a lot of space.
Having the use of the bikes was a bonus too.
All in all a really good place to stay in byron.
The apartment in Byron Bay was very nice. It was well equipped and had everything that we needed. It was in a great location for us to see the sights of Byron. It was a shame that there was no breakfast provided. I understand that Cate was poorly but there was literally nothing provided for breakfast which was very frustrating.
Hi Alison, We don't actually provide breakfast as part of our service and we don't say we do on the listing. The description on the web says we provide tea and coffee and some basic provisions for people who want to cook. Many Air BnB lettings do not provide breakfast as in areas where there are good cafes as most people like to go out. You are the first people to have raised this as an issue with us. I'm sorry for any misunderstanding.
Lovely little place close to Tallows beach. We thoroughly enjoyed our peaceful stay. Cate was easily contactable and went out of her way to make sure our holiday had everything it needed. We would definitely recommend it.

We are a family of four - Byron locals - who love meeting people from all over and love showing off our beautiful part of the world. The apartment is next to our home and we are happy to leave you to do your own thing but are ready and willing to help advise you and make your stay memorable by providing some local knowledge and personal attention.
