About This Listing
Charming and rustic-styled self-contained one bedroom apartment -- not a studio but a proper apartment with a good sized eat-in kitchen and a separate living room. The apartment is in the Lilli Pilli area of Byron town. It's light-filled and breezy and there is a shaded verandah for relaxing on. The apartment is attached to, but totally separate from, our house. We are on hand if you need anything but will give you all the privacy you want.
The apartment is spacious, clean and very comfortable. The bedroom has a king sized bed or can be configured for two singles sharing a room.
We have a large garden for your enjoyment filled with tall shade trees. Relax in our hammock chairs with a book or a drink.
The kitchen is well equipped if you want to self-cater. There is a small oven with two hotplates. There is also a rice cooker, toaster and kettle. We provide a stove-top espresso maker and a coffee plunger. Tea, coffee (real, not instant) and milk are provided and a few essential ingredients. There is also a barbeque for your exclusive use.
Our rates are in most cases better than the double rooms offered by some hostels in town but here you will find far more charm, character and privacy. And you have your own separate kitchen and living room.
We are on the outskirts of town. It is close enough to walk almost everywhere but far enough out of town to not be affected by the chaos that can make the centre of Byron a bit crazy in high season. There is a short walk along a bush track to Tallow Beach or a 20-25 min walk to the middle of town. Lilli Pilli is a quiet area of Byron town fringed by a nature reserve with koala habitat. We had a koala in the garden one night recently! Really!
There is a great little cafe on the corner just near our place, The Roadhouse. It's open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and is also a whiskey bar at night! You can walk to the Palace Cinema complex and local restaurants and bars. Also check out the Pighouse Flicks cushion cinema which has mostly recent release arthouse/independent films. They are in the Byron Bay Brewery/Buddha Bar complex which has a courtesy shuttle bus that goes from town out to the Brewery and back.
Two bikes are available for guests to use to get around town. Free unlimited WiFi. DVD player and TV.
Sheets and towels - bath and beach - are provided.
***PLEASE NOTE in Dec/Jan we have a minimum stay of 3 nights.
Infants stay free - we have a travel cot. Please remember if you are bringing small children that we have a dog. He is totally friendly but if your child doesn't like dogs then you should probably choose different accommodation.
The garden is a shared space - we have a very friendly dog and two children. The trampoline and hammock chairs are yours to share. You will find them unoccupied most of the time.
You can walk down to the groovy Roadhouse cafe/restaurant. It is a happening bar at night. Walk to Tallows Beach and the tea tree lakes - said to be very healing.
Other Things to Note
We can tell you about some of Byron's secret spots.
This is NOT a party house. We are in a quiet, family area of Byron and the apartment is adjacent to our home and we expect guests to come and enjoy the accommodation in the calm and relaxed manner that makes Byron Bay so special a place to visit.
Bikes are available for guests' use but you are liable for any theft or damage whilst using them. Locks and chains are provided.
Smoking is allowed on the verandah only.
This is a friendly house in a nice part of town. I had all the space I needed as it is quite an independent situation but I also felt generally welcome around the property which has lots of open space.
I expect I will stay there again next time I am in Byron.
A very pleasant hideaway in a quiet, leafy, residential part of Byron. Lots of lovely touches to this accommodation creating a really quaint character. I particularly appreciated the beautiful bathroom - someone has put in a lot of work!
My partner and I came stayed here for a couple of nights and really loved it. The place was clean and the hosts very welcoming, we especially like Gilbet the dog. Would absolutely stay here again.
We did very little research before booking this place in the outskirts of byron bay. The price level seemed high enough to be a good standard accomodation and the reviews gave us big hopes about a nice and relaxing 6 nights. As we stayed there during april it started to get cold and the first nights were really on the borderline of acceptance for us and our 8 month old baby. However, as many have mentioned before, this family who lives in the attached house is very friendly (not used to that level, swedes as we are) and after having installed a portable radiator it got much better. As did the weather. The place is quite cosy yet worn down and they need to put in some extra work for it to really give a feel of value for money. The bathroom is actually only accessible from the outside meaning that you have step outside in the dark during nighttime. There is lighting on the porch but with our baby sleeping and no thick curtains we used our cellphone lights. The kitchen is ok-ish to cook dinner but with only one hotplate working you should be too ambitious.
It was clean and surprisingly free from insects. Only met with one cockroach and one spider and one of them got away.
Lots of mosquitos around but didn't bother us too much. Probably due to heavy rains before we arrived. Wifi was poor. Normally we wouldn't bother but we had some important stuff to take care of while being away so it was crucial with a flawless connection. Sometimes it worked fine but dont expect being able to video Skype from here.
Again, very friendly family and we had a nice time here. With such a nice host as catherine this review becomes much more positive.
Hi Per, I'm sorry the apartment was cold on the first nights - the temperature dropped very suddenly and I hadn't told you that there were spare blankets in the drawer in the bedroom - apologies. We also didn't know that only one hotplate was working. If you had mentioned it during your stay we might have been able to do something about it. We have installed a stronger wi-fi extender since you came which hopefully will improve things for future guests-- we don't know why it was so problematic -- no one seems to have had as much trouble with it. We still believe that the price for this accommodation is very reasonable compared to other accommodation in town. As for the other improvements, we are always changing and upgrading and we will get to them over time. Thanks for your suggestions and all the best for the future, Catherine.
This place was great. Only a five minute drive into town (and Catherine offered bikes for us to use), lovely green surroundings and very comfortable beds. The bathroom was also spacious and clean, . Cate and her family were very welcoming and Cate was very approachable regarding recommendations for what to do in Byron. Overall a great experience!
We had a nice stay in the lovely appartment in Byron Bay. Catherine and her husband had everything well prepared and the place was spacious and clean. The location is great; not to far from the city centre. And the kids enjoyed themselves while playing in the garden and on the trampoline.
a great little spot to stay in Byron that feels like a little home. I really enjoyed staying here for a couple of nights on a mixed work / getaway trip and found Catherine and her family lovely to me and helpful, yet left me to have a peaceful little trip away too. I'd come back for sure...
