About this listing
On the edge of town, yet hidden from the hustle behind high walls, our treetops escape sits in a secret garden that feels like a movie set. Overlooking a temple & some of the last rice fields in central Ubud a stay here will be a magical experience!
Upstairs day room. The daybed converts to a full-size single if req. We can also offer a fold-out single bed alongside the sofa for an additional child :-)
Thank you to all our guests - Our Treehouse is fully booked until we reopen with our stunning transformation in December 2015! From December our super-popular house in the trees will feature a larger downstairs bedroom, new double-size downstairs bathroom (now directly connected to the bedroom) AND the best part of all - it's own refreshing jungle plunge pool, with views over the rice fields to the temple! All this with it's existing outdoor bathtub and private waterfall - we are sure you will agree it's one of the most exciting holiday homes in Ubud :-)
Photos will be added as work is completed.
Situated near the heart of the bustling artistic and cultural centre of Ubud, Bali, Satori is our home for half the year which we are delighted to share with others while we are away.
If you're after an isolated, out of the way retreat, then Satori may be a little too urban for you. Here we offer the best of both worlds, close proximity to all the wonderful services and cultural experiences that Ubud offers, within a truly magical setting! Step directly from the hustle and bustle of Ubud life though a doorway to another world, a beautiful oasis, of water features, jungle garden and beautiful rice field views.
We are pleased to offer single night bookings ONLY if there is a single night available between two other bookings - please message us to inquire.
We offer 2 separate accommodation options, The Treehouse (our guest house) listed here, and the Villa (our home) listed here
The Treehouse at Satori:
Constructed carefully amongst a tall stand of trees sits The Treehouse. Whilst we built it on solid ground it stands high over the property, amongst the treetops, looking over the rice fields. With all the magic of a treehouse but with the comfort and amenities of a traditional building we think this is the best of both worlds.
The Treehouse is two separate rooms, upstairs and downstairs, connected both by an outdoor (covered) stairway wrapped around trees, and an internal ladder and trapdoor!
The upstairs room is a Javanese teak house, boasting a generously proportioned day bed (can convert to full size single bed) TV/DVD, desk and charming treetops bathroom! Glass doors slide back to the stunning view where you can relax in the outdoor furniture created from reclaimed wood from old fishing boats, and take in a vista that flows from a jungle frame to the rice field below.
Downstairs is the 3x4.5m air conditioned bedroom with queen-sized bed and floor-to-ceiling glass doors overlooking the new jungle plunge pool, and view to the rice field. The bedroom is also connected to it's own brand new bathroom.
A path beside the Treehouse leads between the plunge pool, and our waterfall feature to a private outdoor sitting area. Also set here is a beautiful handmade wooden bathtub, another place to float with a glass of your favourite something and contemplate the ever-changing light on the rice field beyond.
The shared yoga/massage studio lies between The Treehouse and the neighbouring Villa. Let us contact a talented massage therapist to visit for the perfect end to a memorable Balinese day!
At your service...
While there is no doubt Satori's accommodation and setting will impress we predict it will be our wonderful staff that will ensure your stay is truly memorable. Sak Ming our manager knows Ubud like few others. She is on call to help you with any query or problem. Together with Wayan, our chief housekeeper, she loves to receive guests and help in anyway that might make your stay more comfortable, and memorable!
Our staff can assist you in arranging almost anything, at cost price. We never receive a commission or kick back from any service or company we might recommend. We simply want you have to have an amazing experience, at the best price possible.
Our home is handily placed only 1.6 km (1 mile) from the heart of Ubud's dining/shopping area. Some people walk to town, some hire scooters (around $5 per day) or some use a van service (at around $4-5 per trip)
The property lies amongst lush jungle gardens above a stream of great importance to the local village. At one end lies a small temple where holy water is collected from an underground spring for important ceremonies and at the other is a bathing and laundry area, a social point for local villagers. Making your home away from home at Satori means the magic of daily Balinese life is all around....
Rate includes all taxes, wifi, use of local cell phone, daily room servicing, in-room DVDS, private pool, outdoor bath and patio, breakfast and Balinese Afternoon Tea for 2 guests - and maybe most importantly of all - lots of tips for memorable off-the-beaten-track experiences!
NB: Additional guests, $25 per night. We can accommodate one extra adult upstairs on the day bed, but we also have the option of adding a portable foldout bed for a fourth guest if you are happy to squeeze it in to the 3m x 3m upstairs room.
The entire 2-level Treehouse, waterfall garden with outdoor bath and private jungle plunge pool is for exclusive use of the Treehouse guests and is very private. It is separated from the Villa by a lush tropical garden, walls and high wooden gate.

This place has definetely some magical touch with outstanding view on the rice terraces, amazing balcony and scenic bathroom, private waterfall and very welcoming team (excellent welcome drink !). The room at the ground floor was unfortunately a bit stuffy and the aircon did't help much. Also, we've found that overall the cleanliness could be improved (outside bathtub unusable for instance). Please note that the place is some 15 minutes drive from central Ubud, it is located in Pengosekan with a few shops in the surroundings. Great stay overall but value/money could be improved.
Thanks for taking the time to give us your thoughts Edoardo. It's a shame we didn't learn of these while you were with us, they would have been quickly rectified for you. We have since discovered the coolant in the air conditioner was low, which may have made the room feel a little stuffy, we apologise for not seeing that earlier. The outdoor bath is cleaned daily but as it is exposed under the jungle canopy it doesn't take much for falling leaves to give the appearance that it may be unclean. Finally thank you for staying with us, we hope you can come again when we reopen with the new expanded bedroom opening to the private swimming pool - and let us host you for longer than one night next time :-) Happy travels, Mark.
Wonderful experience! Mark was extremely friendly and helpful. Highlights:
1. Airport transportation/driver: We took up Mark on having his driver pick us up from the airport. SO glad we did. Our driver Dewa was one of our favorite parts of the trip. We asked him to drive us around before going to the treehouse and he essentially took us on a personalize day tour of Ubud (trips I saw in tour packages later for far more money). Dewa was extremely friendly and knowledgeable.
2. Massages: We had Mark schedule massages for us the evening we arrived. What a gift! Nothing beats jet lag like a massage the day you arrive. And the spa massages (steps from your door) were amazing (and shockingly inexpensive). We ended up getting a massage every day we were there.
3. Location: Having never been to Ubud we weren't sure what to expect. The tree house is within ~15 min walking distance of the main center of Ubud but just far enough way you don't get all the foot/street traffic.
4. Amenities: There is a mini fridge, toaster oven, microwave and drinking water. They also have a local cell phone you can use to order delivery to the treehouse (we didn't use the phone ourselves). The bedroom has a wall A/C unit, we had it full blast and it was still warm for us. We ended up sleeping with the door open our second night to cool the room off.
5. Activities: As already mentioned, we got massages and a driving day tour of Ubud. We also did a cooking class (scheduled through the treehouse). HIGHLY recommend the cooking class!
6. Overall: Beautiful area, friendly reception. Definitely felt welcome and enjoyed every minute of our stay! Would stay again.
The tree house was cool and the view over the rice paddy was really amazing. The nature was just out there and we just felt like on a camping. Just the one disappointing thing was there was no burner. Except that everything was great!
Amazing view, fantastic little house and the staff was incredible. Emails were replied within a few hours and the service was exceptional. The best place when you want to stay in Ubud. We hope to be back soon.
The magic treehouse was a brilliant experience. The greatest experience was to sit on the balcony, have a cup of coffee and just enjoy the view.
Wayan was also brilliant as the help and makes a mean banana pancake for breakfast and was ever helpful.
The place is less than 2km from town, but if you're feeling lazy, they can arrange a driver to take you in or even to bring you around for the day.
Definitely a place I would come to again if it's avail on my next trip. It does help that Mark responds quickly to any request and has a manager on the ground to help with our stay.
We really enjoyed our stay at Treehouse Retreat. The serene atmosphere, the view of the rice fields from the balcony, the open bath tub, the cute waterfall, the sumptuous breakfast and the hospitality from Wayan - everything was perfect. There are two rooms. The main room is below and there is a sofa cum bed in the treehouse room above. Further there is also a kitchenette below with a refrigerator, kettle, microwave and water dispenser. For the travel, Mark had put us in contact with Dewa, who came to pick us from the airport and drove us around for two days. He was really patient and extremely friendly.
This place is around 20 min walk from Ubud centre. There are couple of good restaurants and a small departmental store around 10 min by walk. Also we were provided with a phone having a loaded SIM card with the important telephone numbers for emergency purpose. This was really thoughtful of Mark to provide this to the guests. We would love to come back here whenever we are next in Bali.
So airbnb is kinda playing with me and this is the 3rd time i write this review. So what started like a novel ended short and sweet.
Essentially, the treehouse is truly magic. But the staff is even more so. They are incredibly generous and selfless. We were treated like princesses and are looking forward to go back one day.
The location is a bit noisy during the day, but gets quiet at night. It is also feasible to walk to ubud central day or night without any issues if you are adventurous and like a bit of danger in your life.
We would go back there in a heartbeat.
