The Space

A private home lodging located in Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica with a spectacular post card ocean/ jungle view.
We have 2 rooms with shared baths . A short walk to the beach and the National Park. We are not a hotel so if you enjoy staying in a home this is the right place.

The heliconia and bromeliad bedrooms are available in the teak house. Each room has a double bed. The bathroom in this house is shared and has a large shower with hot water.
A full kitchen is available for your use but breakfast is service in the main house. A large deck overlooking the ocean and tropical rainforest is a wonderful way to see wildlife or just relax with a cold drink and good book.

Manuel Antonio and the National Park is internationally known for its breathtaking beauty and abundance of wildlife. Without even moving from our deck you can see monkeys (3 kinds), sloths, coatis, tucans and lots more in their natural environment. Our garden has many species of tropcial plants including heliconias, cinnamon, allspice, papaya, bananas, pineapples and orchids. We are a 10 min walk to the beach. Everything you need can be found within walking distance. A small supermarket, banks, gift shops and some of the best restaurants in the area are a short distance away. Looking directly at the National Park we have one of the best views in Manuel Antonio. Our very small friendly bi-lingual staff with many years of living in Costa Rica, can make any tour reservations for you. If you would like to go sailing, river rafting, parasailing, horseback riding, kayak through the mangrove, or swing through the canopy we can arrange it for you.
All our guests may use the deck and livingroom/kitchen area of the teak house. The view is spectacular and there is a hammock and lots of deck chairs to sit and watch the monkeys passing though the trees.

  • The Teak House was a wonderful place to stay. The location was beautiful. We were able to walk down to several gorgeous beaches or make our way to some fantastic restaurants at night. The Teak House itself was very well maintained. The room was very clean. The kitchen was very well equipped. There were lots of books to borrow and read. We were able to leave our car in a gated carport as well, which was a great convenience since we didn't need it that much. Anita was a great host. We thoroughly enjoyed talking to her at breakfast. I highly recommend staying here!

  • Anita has been very welcoming. The view is great, the breakfast is nice. You can walk to all the places and to the beach. On the way, you might meet some monkeys or other animals!

  • This was my first time in Manuel Antonio and it was a wonderful experience! Anita responded to my messages quickly, and I made a booking for 2 nights. Anita knows English too, which was very helpful and comforting. And her place is absolutely wonderful, with an amazing outdoor patio that puts you right with the animals. I couldn't ask for a better breakfast in the morning too, a great way to start each day. I enjoyed my stay so much that I extended by an another night, staying for a total of 3 nights. There is a supermarket and food nearby. The bed was comfortable, she provided a towel, and the shower was awesome. I highly recommend this place if you're staying in Costa Rica. You'll be glad you did!

  • Anita was a kind, helpful host and we enjoyed staying with her! Her cats are very sweet. If you dislike or have an allergy to cats, do not be concerned - the rooms for guests are separate and do not have any cat hair or dander. The cats don't go in those rooms. The one drawback is that the Teak House upper floor is NOT air conditioned, and Manuel Antonio can get very hot. If you are sensitive to heat, request one of her air-conditioned rooms! Otherwise, we were very comfortable during our stay.

  • Anita was a very sweet and engaging host. She has made her home in Costa Rica and so we naturally felt at home with her. While the town itself is on the touristy side, Anita's B&B provides a brilliant way to escape all that mayhem and just relax. We loved our time and we loved the breakfast.

  • Good value for money, in an area with high prices. Anita is a very good host, with two lovely cats. The room in the teak house is very simple, with a rustic wardrobe and a bedside table, no more. Parking is available. If I have to make a negative comment, the house, in its golden age, must have been wonderful, but now, in the common areas, is a little neglected, and needs a refresh. In any case good experience, recommended.

  • Wow, we loved our visit with Anita so much that we are contemplating returning in August and September for a two week vacation. Anita's casa is set on the hillside with a glorious view of the Central Pacific. Her guesthouse reminded me of places I have stayed growing up when on vacation or at camp. Anita gave us great suggestions for our visit, including getting to and from the beach, and where best to eat. Also you get to meet other visitors from around the world. Manuel Antonio is a must-see in Costa Rica, a very special place.

Casa Buena Vista Bed & Breakfast, BOUTIQUE LA BUENA NOTA
I discover Manuel Antonio 38 years ago after graduating the University of California in Berkeley. Don Melton and myself first did a research project in the National Park and adjoining beaches and decided to make Punta Quepos our home. Don was the local historian and gave educational talks for many groups including National Geografic. We were among the founders of the first Chamber of Tourism in Manue Antonio, founders of ASCONA (Quepos first conservation organization), and have continued to be active in civic and conservations groups to date. I am currently working with a group to establish an animal shelter here in our area. (website hidden) We worked for many years on the problem of drownings (see page 7). I ran my gift shop LA BUENA NOTA for many years and because of my extensive knowledge of Costa Rica, I can answer most questions about our area and some advice about other tourist destinations in Costa Rica.
