This is a room with private bathroom and has one double and one single bed. There are a number of stairs so if you have a mobility issue I would not recommend it.

The space

A private home lodging located in Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica with a spectacular post card ocean/ jungle view.
. A short walk to the beach and the National Park. We are not a hotel so if you enjoy staying in a home this is the right place.

A full kitchen is available for your use but breakfast is service in the main house. A large deck overlooking the ocean and tropical rainforest is a wonderful way to see wildlife or just relax with a cold drink and good book.

We have three new rooms with private baths and A/C. Each has a double bed and a single bed, sitting area and of course a shower with hot water and some of the best views in Manuel Antonio.

Manuel Antonio and the National Park is internationally known for its breathtaking beauty and abundance of wildlife. Without even moving from our deck you can see monkeys (3 kinds), sloths, coatis, tucans and lots more in their natural environment. Our garden has many species of tropcial plants including heliconias, cinnamon, allspice, papaya, bananas, pineapples and orchids. We are a 10 min walk to the beach. Everything you need can be found within walking distance. A small supermarket, banks, gift shops and some of the best restaurants in the area are a short distance away. Looking directly at the National Park we have one of the best views in Manuel Antonio. Our very small friendly bi-lingual staff with many years of living in Costa Rica, can make any tour reservations for you. If you would like to go sailing, river rafting, parasailing, horseback riding, kayak through the mangrove, or swing through the canopy we can arrange it for you.
All our guests may use the deck and livingroom/kitchen area of the teak house. The view is spectacular and there is a hammock and lots of deck chairs to sit and watch the monkeys passing though the trees.
If this room is not available please check out our other rooms. I would not recommend it for anyone that is not physically active. There are a number of stairs.

I will only receive guests after 6 pm by direct request, so ask first if you plan on arriving at night.

Guest access

Overall, we were very happy with our stay at Anita's place. The complex was really neat...like a tropical bed and breakfast. If the place were cleaned up a bit, it would be really incredible. We stayed in #7 which was on the bottom row and was in a row with 2 other studio type rooms similar to our room. AC worked well. Get a room with AC! Some important notes: Anita does not allow check in past 6pm. This was really strange considering it is a vacation hostel type location. Luckily the place we were staying in the previous town went out of their way to accommodate us with an early tour because Anita was definitely not going to go out of her way. The place is up for sale and I think she's a bit over being a host. We asked for towels to use on our catamaran tour and she said 'you don't need towels. Just drip dry.' So no, she didn't have to let us borrow towels (really old worn out towels btw) but it was always the way she said things that consistently sent the message 'It's all about Anita, not the guest.' The woman who cleaned was very kind. She always tried to help if she could. She kept the living areas very clean considering all the bugs in the area. Breakfast was great...eggs, toast, pastries, coffee, juice. Anita was pleasant and bubbly. She gave us a few tips about what to do and where to go. She even gave us access to the locked garage for our rental car. It was a good value and very unique place, so overall we had a good stay...just a few uncomfortable and abrasive moments with Anita. Well worth it for the price and location.

We definitely felt like we had made it to the tropics here! The property indeed has a beautiful view of the water before you enter the gate, and is teeming with flowers and plants and wildlife throughout. We really enjoyed the lounging area (where we could watch for monkeys and iguanas) and the relatively convenient location (we walked to the beach, dinner, the minimarket and bank, and to the bus to the park). The room itself was enough for us, albeit not luxurious by any means (the towels were old and scratchy and there was a faint smell of mildew lurking). Anita was friendly and helpful and booked us a great dolphin watching and snorkeling tour which we loved! All in all, we had a very pleasant stay.

We loved our stay here!!!!! Lots of wild life!!! Everyday we woke up with the sound of different animals which we loved! We saw just outside our room tons of howler monkeys, white face monkeys, skirrel monkeys, a sloth, hummingbirds etc!!!!!! The view is fantastic too!!! Hope to come back in the future, we miss it already!

My friend had a cockroach run up has leg in the shower, a salamander and a centipede on the on the wall. Other than that AC worked well, place was clean. Good view from the kitchen, but no where else on the property. Walk to bus stop is up a long hill, not ideal for people who cannot walk well. Host was very nice and very helpful finding an amazing night tour.

Really enjoyed staying at Casa Buena Vista! Location was perfect allowing walking to the beaches while being secluded enough from the major hotels to make the trip feel special. Truly a slice of Costa Rican paradise. Highly recommend this accommodation for those not keen on hotel chains or resorts.

I discover Manuel Antonio 41 years ago after graduating the University of California in Berkeley. Don Melton and myself first did a research project in the National Park and adjoining beaches and decided to make Punta Quepos our home. Don was the local historian and gave educational talks for many groups including National Geografic. We were among the founders of the first Chamber of Tourism in Manue Antonio, founders of ASCONA (Quepos first conservation organization), and have continued to be active in civic and conservations groups to date. I am currently working with a group to establish an animal shelter here in our area. We worked for many years on the problem of drownings (see page 7). I ran my gift shop LA BUENA NOTA for many years and because of my extensive knowledge of Costa Rica, I can answer most questions about our area and some advice about other tourist destinations in Costa Rica.
