This house makes me feel like staying in home. The room is clean and comfortable.
The host is really nice.
Can't say enough great things about Patty, John and their home! We were greeted upon arrival, offered a refreshment while their son carried our luggage to our rooms. Before we even arrived Patty was great at keeping in touch and offering any assistance, recommendations, etc., even go so far as to offer to pick up any necessities we may need at the local shops.
Patty was very thorough with touring their home and neibouring amenities including train station, stores, restaurants etc.. She accompanied us to the station the first morning as well to make sure we understood the parking system, ticketing and schedules. The train to NYC is 2 minutes away and very reliable. We never felt as though we were intruding on their lives or home being given full access to all their home's amenities including the beautiful pool, terrace, fire bowl and wood, recreation and relaxing areas and even laundry, which was a Godsend after a week away from home!
In the morning Patty laid out homemade muffins, cereals and bagels (don't miss John's word-famous homemade cream cheese spread!) for all of us (2 adults and 2 children) which was especially convenient and delicious. We were made to feel like family and were given as much attention, conversation or space as desired when they were home.
Our personal living space included two private, spacious rooms on the top floor with a small hallway between with a connecting private bathroom. The bathroom included a glass doored shower and Boutique hygiene items such as soaps, shampoos and more. The main bedroom has a comfortable queen size bed and Patty was even able to accommodate our different pillow needs as well. The rooms was nicely decorated and has a stunning vista view across the river overlooking the Manhattan skyline. The second bedroom where our kids shared a king size bed was also more than accommodating for their sleeping, dressing and living needs, also beautifully decorated.
Truly a very special vacation that simply wouldn't have been as special without the incredible experience we enjoyed courtesy of Patty and John. We were sad to leave. They have an absolutely beautiful large home in a gorgeous, safe neighbourhood. When we return to the NYC area we'll stay here again, no question! In fact, the surrounding area in NJ is so lovely we'll plan at least a day in the area as well.
Don't hesitate to book this Airbnb. It was great and, frankly, an incredible value considering the amenities, convenient location and courteous, professional hosting that Patty and John provide.
We went to the United States all the way from Japan and it was first time using airbnb. We really enjoyed our first airbnb stay. Patty and John are very nice and kind, and we felt like we have been friends for many many years. They are very kind giving us useful information and support from the time of booking. For people like us, visiting the US from abroad, it was a big help.
The house is very beautiful, located in peace and quiet area top of hill with good view of Manhattan. In the morning, Patty prepared home made blueberry muffin, which is the best muffin I ever had!
It had such a wonderful time with Patty and John and when we come to the US next, we definitely stay with them.
I can't put into words how welcomed we felt from Patty. We had had a rough week of packing up a household in London (after 5 years), grandkids & son leaving their friends and schools/work behind and traveling all day to NJ. Patty welcomed us with a great big hug and muffins and showed us our wonderful accommodations. Everything in the listing was actually understated. It was grand. My granddaughter said when we left "Patty, is the nicest new person I've ever met!". It was so welcoming it began their new life in NJ in such a positive tone I couldn't have found a better place!
Patty & John were both extremely helpful in so many ways. Their house is stunning and very comfortable with everything we needed. But the best part was the warm and lovely hospitality we received. The kids enjoyed the swimming pool and were awestruck with the piano! I can't say enough positive things about this stay. Thank you Patty and John for all your kindness.
One of the greatest gifts of hosting on AirBnB is meeting and sharing memories with lovely people from around the world. Over the years, we’ve been blessed to have met scores of them . . . but some just leave an everlasting imprint on your heart. Jill, Rob and his delicious children did just that. The world is a little brighter when they are in your life!
Thank you all . . . see you in the deep end!
Being a little lost in the neighbourhood after arrival to Newark gave us a good inspiration on the days to come. Patty and John came and found us, guided us to home and gave us a warm welcome with the words that after first night sleep in their house we would be a part of the family.
The remaining 7 days were like this. Over coffee and bagels topped with John's favourite vegetable cream cheese for not to mention Patty's blueberry muffins, we got good travel and shopping advices from the family, Patty, Johns and their oldest son, Ian. The rooftop café midtown Manhattan for our first visit down there was a good suggestion from Ian which fitted perfectly for our group of a couple in the fifties with our twenty year old son. And the trip to Jersey shore was a great idea as well as lots of suggestions of places nearby South Orange.
Patty's and Johns house is beautiful and the surroundings quiet and nice. Meeting a deer family grassing in one of the private gardens on a bicycle tour in the neighbourhood gives a good impression of the natural and quiet neighbourhood and the extreme contrast you can experience by penduling between there and downtown Manhattan within an hour by the train. Feeling at home in such environment is just great, and quite fulfilling to relax in the pool after a stressed but exciting day in NYC. Patty and John just made this happen to us and made us feel as a part of the family and as if we had always known each other.
Hospitality is to our experience the DNA of Patty and John. That we could not only experience on ourselves, but also on neighbours and other guests visiting their house during our stay. If they new of someone needing a ride to the doctor or train station or arriving through the airport loosing flights or leftover luggage, their home, cars and closets were open and available to all in need.
Warm thanks from us all three, Jón, Hrönn and Bjarki, which all have the same positive feeling after the stay. Age did not make any barriers in the good experience of staying with Patty and family in South Orange.
Last but not the least, we now bake blueberry muffins at our home for breakfast after we managed to catch the secret recipe. We know John was not happy about that, but you will be glad when you visit Iceland and we treat you with the famous muffins stuffed with Arctic blueberries.
We can not say enough positive things about our experience staying with Patty and her family. We truly did feel like family and feel fortunate to have had a chance to meet them and stay in their beautiful home.
