This beautiful, recently renovated duplex apartment is located on one of the prettiest blocks of brownstones in Fort Greene-Clinton Hill (Grand Ave and Gates Ave). Charming cafes, top notch restaurants, famous flea market and BAM all within walking distance. Lower Manhattan 15 minutes by subway (the C train at Clinton-Washington is three short blocks away). Perfect for a couple or family, this apartment is both elegant and homey.
Our place is over 2000-square feet (185 square meters) large, and occupies the lower two floors of an 1870s Italianate brownstone. The parlor level features a huge double living room/den with 14-foot high ceiling, “wedding cake” crown moldings, period chandelier, a gold leaf pier mirror, mahogany fireplace, floor to ceiling windows, and original inlaid parquet floor. In the rear of the parlor floor is a beautiful, brand new sunlit kitchen with another mahogany fireplace, custom cabinetry, 10' French doors, mahogany countertops, and high end appliances. Perfect for reading the paper or for a family meal.
The garden-level features three bedrooms and full bathroom. The spacious master bedroom has a marble mantel, parquet floors, era-decorated ceilings and wainscoting. and queen-size bed with dresser. The lovely children’s room features a full bed and lots of toys for your use (if you like). There is also a cozy third bedroom with a twin bed with garden view. The bathroom on this floor has a brand new tiled full bath with thermostatic shower system and soaking tub.
Finally, there is a large rear private garden with a good quality gas grill if you fancy grilling in the snow.
The apartment is tastefully furnished throughout with a mix of mid-century modern furniture, Asian and early American antiques,. It is fully equipped with a new Bosch washer and dryer, Direct TV, Roku “instant download” box, and wireless internet.
It's a truly beautiful apartment--not at all like your typical sublet!
Stay here and you could give this host their first review!
My husband and I lucky enough to have employment that allows us lots of free time to travel (which we love to do). He's a college professor and I'm a published author; and we have two young children.
Through more luck, we also managed to purchase our "dream house" two years ago on one of the prettiest and most architecturally preserved blocks in Clinton Hill, which we think is the best neighborhood in Brooklyn.
The place is incredibly grand--with soaring ceilings and wedding cake moldings and a ten foot tall gold pier mirror--but we've managed to make it feel warm and modern, filled with toys and books and tasteful comfortable furniture, and all the conveniences like AC, nice washer-dryer and top quality linens and bedding that make the difference between comfortable and luxurious.
It's truly our pleasure to share it with other families or groups of friends who appreciate the gorgeous period details and relaxed modern vibe, who are excited to use our cook's kitchen and host their friends and family at our farmhouse table around which we've had so many memorable times.
We have had great luck (once more) subletting to wonderful people who treat the place as their own. We take it as a great compliment when they tell us that they didn't want to leave.
