This was our second stay in Sonja's home and it was just as beautiful as we remembered it. The location is wonderful (walking distance to downtown, the capitol, UW campus) and the amenities are great. We especially love how child-friendly this home is (everything from providing a crib, stroller, high chair, toys, to diapers and organic baby shampoo in the bathroom.) Sonja and Jim are wonderful hosts and we really enjoyed seeing them again!
We don't have any guests that stay in the main house except for the third floor; sorry you got that impression. We do also rent the little guest house in the back yard; but that is completely private, they don't use any part of the main house.
Again, thank you for your stay. Hope Patrick is better now. :)
Sonja's house is incredible and the suite in the attic is adorable. It it well appointed and homely at the same time. There are amazing views of the lake and a divine separate round double bedroom in the turret. Really warm, clean, well equipped. Sonja put groceries in the fridge for us and there were toys for my daughter too. The neighbourhood is awesome too - fantastic specialist wine shop and Johnson's Public House is a hipster coffee shop not to miss. We loved our stay and would recommend strongly.
I have been traveling to Madison to visit with my daughter for the past six years and have always stayed at reliable hotels. For this visit I signed up for Sonja's airbnb and we were delighted with the accomadations. The apartment had plenty of space and was beautifully decorated . The kitchen was well furnished and very comfortable to work in as we prepared breakfasts daily. The bathroom was light and airy and also well supplied and we especially appreciated the large counter space where we could lay out all our essential toiletries. But the most memorable element of all was the fantastic view of the lake and the sunset from the master bed. We also enjoyed drinks while sitting on an outside upper deck. The location was excellent as we walked along the lake path to the college student union and it was an easy walk to the Capitol and downtown shops. Mr. And Mrs. Moskalik were most welcoming and helpful and offered to pick me up at the airport as well. I hope to stay here in the future when I return to Madison. I would have to say that my experience at this airbnb made my visit to Madison most memorable!
Simply a MUST for anyone wanting to stay in Madison. Where to begin? The location is incredible. A short walk to State St. for shopping and restaurants...also discovered a few great spots on Johnson St. as well (Fontaine design/gift shop, Sophia's for breakfast), just around the block from the house. The wintertime Lake Mendota views from the apartment were gorgeous, so I can only imagine how wonderful it is during the other seasons. The apartment was spacious and we really felt like we had our own "home within a home". The beds were comfortable with great linens, the shower had great pressure and plenty of hot water, and the sectional sofa was a great place to relax after a day of exploring the city.
Sonja and Jim invited us to have a glass of wine with them and we had a delightful time learning more about our hosts, the neighborhood, the city, and sharing a lot of laughs. But we also had complete privacy, as once we were in the apartment we felt like we were in own world. I'd definitely recommend these hosts, especially if you're new to airbnb. You'll be spoiled!
1. The place was not "entire house" as described in the listing, but just one floor of the house. 2. We have a group of five and we informed the host in advance. The host also agreed to accommodate five of us. However, there was no prepared bedding for the fifth guest and my friend sleep with his cloth on the first night. 3. The Internet was EXTREMELY slow that it takes a few minutes to open a page, which mainly ruined our night plan. 4. The queen bed room was very cold because there was no heating in that room. It was in Madison winter. Youn know. 5. The worse experience is that the host didn't tell us in advance that the fifth guest will be charge extra 40 bucks for two nights and on the booking page, we can only select up to 4 guests. The host knew we are a group of five but didn't tell us any extra charge in advance. When we are going to leave, the host required us to give her 40$ cash and her reason was we failed to choose " five guest" online so we have to pay it in person with cash. But the reality is there was no such option on line at all and she definitely knew it. The absence of this option was host's mistake, and as a guest, who already told the host we have five, should not be charged extra money after we already spent two nights in her place.why not tell us in advance? If we know the final price is 40$ more (and all the problems mentioned above), we will surely choose another place to live. It's really a surprise to us. Finally we gave the money to host because we dont want to waste time to argue, but we will never choose the place ever again and we will not recommend it to anyone. Well, maybe yes if you have a group less than four. If you have a large group, be sure to ask the price in advance! Otherwise you never know how much extra you need to pay after you slept over: the price on Internet will be claimed as not the final price and the host won't let you know it in advance.
This mix up was all easily corrected. We do accomodate 5; two people on each queen bed and one person on a twin bed. This is very clear if you look at our description. I would have no way of knowing they each wanted their own bed.
Also, it is easy to type in five people, not just four. We have had groups of 5 before.
No one has ever expected to get a whole house from our description. I believe it was a cultural mistake in the way they read it. Don't think they have had any previous Airbnb experience. I tried to give back the extra $40 dollars since they were upset about the fifth person paying for his two day share. Sorry that it all wasn't great; I believe they don't know how Airbnb works.
