Wonderful!!!! We have stayed at Dan's Garden Cottage many times and have always had a wonderful time. Everything you need is there, the location is great. Dan has great suggestions for restaurants and music. Dan & Iris his black lab are great host. We would highly recommend staying at Dan's.
We will be back !!!!!!
Great Place!!!! We love staying at Dan's Garden Cottage. Everything you need!!! Love the garden !! Great location!!! Dan & Iris are wonderful host. We will be back !!!
Dan's cottage is an excellent location that is close to the city proper (our first day here we walked everywhere and made it to the Capital building, along the hike and bike trail and back along South Congress) but feels far enough away to be a kind of oasis as well. Beautiful garden, as everyone else has said, and Dan himself was totally nice and accommodating. Definitely would stay here again!
This room was exactly as it was pictured on the site. It was comfortable and the backyard setting was beautiful. Dan was very nice and accommodating. The detached room felt private and there was a side entrance which was great. The location was perfect! There is even a view of downtown from his tree-lined street.
We loved this place! A friend and I stayed here for a weekend trip to Austin. The succulent garden is beautiful (the pictures don't do it justice), the room was clean and comfortable, and Dan was a perfect host. The location is also great- a short cab ride or leisurely walk to SoCo and 1st. It was nice to have a quiet place to come back to. This was our first trip to Austin and we would definitely stay at the Garden Cottage again. Thanks Dan!
Dan was a great host! We got in unexpectedly late on Thursday night (midnight) but he was still able to give us directions and accommodate our stay. The room is neat, clean, and cozy. The space was large enough to feel at home in. The bathroom was also especially clean and well appointed. My boyfriend and I loved his gardens, which were wonderful and filled with amazing bamboo and succulents. There was also free beer and water in the fridge and a bottle of wine waiting for us when we came in. Can't get much better.
If you have any doubts, you can read his guest book! It's chock full of more great comments and praise for his space.
I enjoy music, photography, travel, cactus/succulents, fishing/boating, the Oaxacan Pacific coast and meeting interesting people. I have followed Austin's music scene since the 70's Armadillo World Headquarters days. I especially enjoy all the Texas singer/songwriters who put Austin on the musical map. Also, I love New Orleans music which has a deep, rich history and a sound that transcends me in time. My interests cover from Buddy Holly to Buddy Bolden, from Townes to Dr John, and Shinyribs to Trombone Shorty. My musical tastes cover rock, country, R & B, reggae, blues, jazz, conjunto/Tex Mex, Mexican, African, Cuban, Latin, Big Band, and classical. I own and operate the South First Food Court which is in a unique area peppered with many mostly local Austin independent businesses, coffee shops, restaurants, and music stories. Torchy's Tacos, Summermoon coffee shop, are just a short walk down the hill to S. 1st from my home. I am very close to SoCo, S. Lamar, Zilker Park, and Downtown.
I have had very satisfied airbnb guests from all over the world, all ages, different backgrounds and cultures who enjoy a clean, moderately priced, private stay in a very beautiful and peaceful backyard in a quiet neighborhood which is close to many of Austin's choice spots.
I enjoy working with plants......cactus, succulents, bromeliads especially. I have been creating cactus bowls that pass on a humorous, satirical, political, poke in the eye. I use found objects, kid's unwanted, broken, exhausted or abandoned toys, Mexican chotzkies, etc. My backyard reflects many of my passions about plants .
