About This Listing
This is one of two rooms available in our large, unique house in the heart of South Austin. It has a shared, hallway bathroom. The other room is large with a private bathroom and can be found under the title "Private Ensuite Room in 78704" Please take a look!
Our house is located just off of South First Street and close to Ben White (US 290W/71). With downtown only 3 miles away and vibrant South Congress and South First Streets close by as well, everything is easily accessible. The airport and Formula 1 (F1) track are also about 9 miles away.
There are two great bus routes which service our area and run all over town including downtown. One is a 3 minute walk from our door and another is an 8 minute walk away.
We also are offering the use of our two standard bicycles and one lock while you stay. Cycling is a fantastic way to see the city! We also have scooters for rent.
You'll enjoy your own private bedroom with all linens provided, and a guest bathroom which is shared in the hallway.
The spacious bedroom has a queen sized bed, two night stands and closet space. It also includes its own private side door entrance. The bathroom has a Jacuzzi bathtub, shower and plenty of storage space for your things. We will provide fresh clean sheets and towels during your stay.
If you have any questions or want to know more about Austin, we are friendly and would be glad to help. We can recommend things for you to do and places to go if you need them, or we'll leave you in peace if you have everything figured out. All in all, we hope you enjoy your stay in Austin! It's a great place to be!
Guests have access to all the common areas of the house, including the living room with full-wall projector for watching movies, kitchen with all appliances, and laundry room with washer and dryer.
Interaction with Guests
I'm usually pretty busy and out of the house frequently, but there is often someone around the house... I like to interact as much as possible, but there have been many guests come and gone who I have hardly even met :) Glad to meet up for drinks, etc. if the timing works out!
Our neighborhood is fantastic. It's very quiet and residential, and also very safe. There is no shortage of on-street parking, and I feel 100% comfortable walking around any time of the day or night alone.
We are pretty close to the airport (9 miles) and might even be able to pick you up if the timing works out. If not, the Capital Metro Airport Flyer can take you downtown and there's an easy transfer to our place via bus #s 5 or 10- depending on the time of day, it takes about an hour via public transport. Also, cabs, Uber and Lyfts are pretty easy to come by if you'd rather get here quickly!
There is good public transportation very close to the house- the number 5 bus is at the end of the street, and frequently runs downtown. Also the number 10 bus is just a 7 minute walk away on S. 1st Street, which also runs directly downtown. The buses are $2.5/day for unlimited use.
If you search for Capital Metro they'll have all of the info you need about the bus system in Austin.
Lots of places are within reasonable cycling distance from our house- S. Congress is less than 2 miles away, 6th and Congress (the heart of downtown) is 3.5 miles away.
Absolutely no smoking inside- outside is fine. The two cats are awesome and generally sweet, but you're free to kick them out of the room or out of the house if they are bothering you. Please try to keep the noise down after 10pm on weeknights, and midnight on weekends and please treat our things as if they were your own :) Thanks!
Ashley and Nick were very welcoming, and even sent a text prior to my arrival to give me a heads up on when they would be around. I had the opportunity to talk with Nick each day, and he offered a lot of suggestions for places to go. It was clear that Ashley and Nick are genuinely concerned that their guests are comfortable. Everything was as advertised, and the neighborhood is in a great area of the city. It felt very safe staying here. It is within a few minutes drive to many great restaurants and shops. Nick and Ashely even provided a bike if you are interested in using it, and also provided a bus map as well, as there are nearby bus stops for transportation around town. Lastly, the itinerary that Ashley and Nick provides lists a ton of great places to visit, and serves as a great resource for those looking for a good starting point for exploring the city.
Ashley was so kind to accommodate us at last minute (on the day!). Great location, great big room with REALLY comfy bed and own entrance which was really fantastic for us. Thanks for having us, Tash
I booked this room at the very lasted minute. Ashley was quick to accept and very prompt in her greeting and subsequent welcoming to her home. Her house is cozy and clean and in a nice quiet neighbourhood. She unobtrusively texted me to make sure I was settled and was very kind in all of our correspondence! It was a perfect situation for me and I will definitely recommend her space to friends. Thanks Ashley!
Ashley and Nick were great hosts. Their communication was easy and regular, I was able to get settled right away. Wonderfully, I was able to borrow a bicycle & helmet from them, huge help. They generously shared their tips for grabbing food & coffee & drinks - I didn't feel like there was anything I was stymied by at all. The room & bed was comfortable - all as easy as it could be, much appreciated.
Ashley was a helpful and gracious host. We felt very welcome in her home. We were not around much, but when we were, Ashley was very friendly and had helpful tips and ideas about Austin. She was also very communicative via email and text. We were given total access to the home which made us feel very comfortable.
The area her house in is really great. The street is quiet, and a quick walk to two good bus lines. There are tons of things to do on some of the surrounding avenues. We went to some delicious restaurants and coffee shops. My girlfriend and I were coming from New York City, so we are very used to walking, and for others who feel the same way, the walk to South Congress is an easy one. We particularly enjoyed all of the restaurants on South 1st street between Ashley's house and the river.
We also used Ashley's bikes, which were a great way to get around the city. Not quite what we were used to in terms of the bikes themselves (mountain bikes), but we saw a LOT by biking. Also, the city buses have bike racks on the front, so if you ever get tired you can pop a bike on there.
Overall it was a great experience!
Had an excellent stay! I was in need of a room during Formula 1 weekend, but all the hotels had rates that ran at an upwards of $150+ a night. This room was clean and spacious, and the bed was very comfortable. The side door was very convenient for me to get in and out of the room without disturbing others in the house by walking through the main house. The bikes were an added bonus, however, I didn't get a chance to use them. We opted to ride the buses, which had stops just a few streets away. Check-in and check-out was easy, and our host was very friendly and accommodating. Great deal!
Everything was excellent! The home was in lovely neighborhood, just south of the busy downtown area. We were able to use the bikes as a means of transportation to get to the ACL Festival- which was only about 3 miles away. The kitchen and laundry access helped out as well. I had to write two papers for school, and Ashley was kind enough to lend me her laptop so I could finish them! Everyone in the house was friendly and helpful too. The private access to the room was nice because we often returned home late, and didn't have to worry about disturbing anyone.
