SUITE FRIENDSHIP (of the Old Economy Inn, an Historic B&B)
The Old Economy Inn consists of three lovingly renovated apartment suites, each with its own separate entrance, full kitchen, private bathroom, living room, bedroom, cable TV, free wi-fi, small library, and assortment of DVDs. Each suite also features its own central air and heating system.
PLEASE NOTE: IF SUITE FRIENDSHIP IS BOOKED, PLEASE CHECK OUT OUR TWO OTHER, NEARLY IDENTICAL LISTINGS, SUITE ÖKONOMIE AND SUITE HARMONIE.
All three suites are located within the Old Economy Village historical district, a national historical site 18 miles from downtown Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The properties were originally built in 1825 by members of the German Harmonist Society.
SUITE FRIENDSHIP is on the second floor and features a queen-sized bed in the master bedroom and full-sized bed in the livingroom/den to accommodate kids or two extra adults. The bathroom features a tub-shower combination.
The price of a night's stay in any of our suites includes a home-cooked breakfast delivered to you the following morning at a time of your choosing!
Breakfast options include:
* Fritattas: spinach & parmesan or bacon & cheddar
* Breakfast burritos: eggs, churizo, cheese, and--if you'd like--sour creme and salsa
* Absolutely delicious homemade muffins
* Oatmeal available with raisins, brown sugar, and assorted toppings.

There is a wide variety of attractions in the area. The Visitors Center for Old Economy Village is right across the street--walking and guided tours are available throughout most of year. Other cultural attractions range from the Andy Warhol Museum and Scaife Gallery in nearby Pittsburgh, to Frank Lloyd Wright's architectural masterpieces, Falling Water and Kentuck Knob, a few hours drive away (advance reservations required).
Sports lovers can watch the Steelers, Pirates, and Penguins play; and fans of the outdoors can hike the beautiful hills of Western PA.

When one of our favorite band announced a reunion tour, they swiftly sold out shows in Philadelphia, New York, and Washington DC. I purchased tickets for their Pittsburgh date, eagerly anticipating both the concert and our stay at the Old Economy B&B.
This was our second visit to Debra and Jim's B&B, though the first time in this suite. The cozy apartment is a short drive from downtown Pittsburgh..and a lovely place to watch snow softly fall on a stormy winter weekend. We missed out on Debra's cooking, as she was away, but Jim ensured that there were plenty of breakfast provisions in the kitchen.
Would definitely stay a third time!
We had a great experience over the Christmas holiday! I grew up in Beaver Valley and visited Old Economy first during a second grade field trip, so this was a fresh take on a familiar place. We like to have some space to ourselves while visiting family in Hopewell and this arrangement put us close to family while giving us our own space. James and Debra were warm and friendly while maintaining plenty of privacy. The accommodations were just as described on the website. We will most likely come again soon.
It's a cozy little apartment. My friends and I stayed there for one night at a weekend. Everything is clean and you felt very welcome there.
The breakfast was an awesome start in the day!
I'd highly recommend it to others, who would like to stay in Pittsburgh for a bit.
This is the second time and second location we stayed in a BnB owned by Debra and James. We find the accommodations to be really nice and will definitely stay there in the future. This past visit, because we were visiting family and friends, we were not very accessible, and yet, when we replied to Debra's message asking for a breakfast order very late at night, we still had a hot breakfast waiting for us the next morning. They go out of their way to make their guest feel welcomed and appreciated. We like that. We'd highly recommend a stay in one of their BnBs.
The place was lovely and clean. Exactly as the pictures show. Breakfast was delicious.
We had originally booked this room for a couple of nights, and the Oekonomie suite for another, but ended up staying at the other suite for our whole trip. Everything at the other suite was lovely (see other review).
We only met Jim on this trip, but he really went out of his way to make our stay a good one. Our breakfast was great, and we really enjoyed chatting with Jim. The accommodations were outstanding, and the suite was just as pictured. The sheets and towels were noticeably high quality, and the overall effect was absolutely charming. We would definitely stay here again!

I love the simple architecture of the Harmonist Society and did my best to restore the Inn in keeping with their style. If you treasure old houses, I really think you will love staying at the Inn. Make sure to visit the Old Economy Village, a state historical site, right down Church Street.
We have also restored another Harmonist home about six blocks away from the Inn. This other building, which is also in the Old Economy Village historical district, is the new home for our catering business, the Old Economy Cafe. The Cafe opened in October, 2010, and it's where we prepare your breakfast and--upon special request--other meals for delivery to the Inn. Ask us about dinner options during your stay!
