About this listing
A cozy, comfortable studio in a great South Austin location, the Zilker neighborhood.
View from the door shows the layout. Our guests tell us the space feels roomier than the photos suggest.
A mix of new and vintage styles, the studio has one main room with queen platform bed (with foam top). The loveseat converts to a daybed and is comfy for lounging, but it is not meant to be used as a second bed. Sorry - no pets allowed.
Use the large closet to stash your clothes and luggage. Kitchenette has a mini fridge, microwave, coffeepot, toaster, dishes, utensils, coffee and tea. Wall unit provides both a/c and heat. Sony Dream Machine has alarm clock, FM radio, CD player, support for 17 iPod/iPhone models and line-in connector for other players.
Roomy bathroom with shower, fresh towels, basic toiletries (shampoo, bath soap, hand soap, hand lotion, hair dryer, first aid kit,). If you'd like a change of linens, just let us know. Don't pack an umbrella (not that it rains much!), there's one in the guest house. Plus a backpack-style cooler bag.
Wi-fi. A stack of CDs in the drawer. No TV but you can relax with magazines, books, puzzles. Peruse a local guidebook, restaurant guide, Austin Magazine, visitor brochures and more.
This is in our backyard, but you will have privacy and your own key. Perfect for 1 or 2 adults who want a mellow stay (not a party house). No smoking or pets. Minimum stay 2 nights, except 3 nights during major events such as SXSW, ACL, FFF and Formula 1 (rate increases during such events). $100 security deposit. NOTE: Last-minute bookings (same day or one-day notice) are not always possible, especially on weekends.
Feel free to relax on the patio.
1 mile to Barton Springs, 1.5 miles to legendary music venues Continental Club and The Broken Spoke, 2.5 miles to downtown. The newly renovated Alamo South movie theater is a pleasant 10-15 minute walk. In the midst of the burgeoning restaurant and bar scene on South Lamar (main thoroughfare). For a good overview, go to the DO512 website and search for an article titled What to Do on South Lamar.
Also, be sure to check out our newly updated Guidebook with tips on restaurants, bars, stores and venues in the area! It is not comprehensive, but it will give you a good taste of the South Lamar neighborhood.
The NY Times Frugal Traveler has a great article on how to spend a weekend in Austin for $100 (excluding lodging). The writer enjoyed lots of great places and activities, including some of our faves. Search for "frugal traveler blog austin." For another good article in the NY Times travel section, search for "36 hours in Austin."
Many of our guests walk to their destinations, many being within a mile or so. It's a short walk to several Cap Metro bus lines (#3, #803, #338, #5) that go downtown and to points beyond.
Guests also have rented bikes to get around town. Barton Springs Bike Rental offers convenient drop-off / pick-up service. Reservations recommended, especially on weekends and for special events.
