First off, I couldn't get my internet on my phone to work, so I got lost and came in late (printing maps is always a good idea). Steven was very nice and didn't complain about the late hour. The room was simple but comfortable and I had a beautiful view in the morning. Someone else mentioned the noise of the frogs - I liked them! A good sound to fall asleep to.
There was no cell phone reception on my phone in the area (FYI).
I was off early, so that's all I have to write about my experience.
Good location (assuming your mobile), easy in and out, very laid back and relaxed. Clean and tidy and except the frogs (which can't be avoided anyway) very secluded and quite - Great stay!
Tremendous value - a real bargain. I had a fabulous time staying at the Pineapple House. Steven is a wonderful host, too, who knows everything there is to know about the Big Island. He recommended a phenomenal restaurant that was just a few minutes away, knew all the best places to go for fresh (and incredible) fruits and vegetables, and pointed out some amazing places to surf, snorkel, swim, and hike. (The five days I had on the Big Island weren't anywhere NEAR enough).
The rooms themselves are comfortable, and the house is set in the midst of a beautiful rain forest environment (you can listen to the frogs while you sleep - they're actually nice and not obnoxious, and this is coming from an insomniac and a light sleeper).
I just can't get away from the value that this represented - I felt like I was stealing from my poor host every time I came back from having a terrific day around the Island and he offered me some fruit or a smoothie. Whether you're looking for a place to heal, recharge, or just somewhere to crash after a strenuous hike or some gnarly surfing, I don't think you're likely to beat this anywhere.
Steven and Diana are wonderful hosts. Their place was clean, they were very friendly and made me feel welcomed in their home. Since the closest restaurant was a ten minute drive, it was very nice being able to store food in the full size refrigerator, and enjoy fresh fruits, smoothies, and coffee at the house in the morning! Steven is very knowledgeable about the area, and his suggestions were very helpful!
We stayed for two nights at Pineapple house. The room and bathroom are very clean. And we like the decorations inside the house. Steven and Diane are very interesting people. They and their friend gave us many useful travel guides. We would like to stay at the place again if we have a chance to visit the area in the future. Thank you!
We had a very good time at Steven's and Diana's Place we enjoyed it a lot. Steven and Diana recomended us a lot of useful places to explore and insiders as well. Thank you guys again for having us :)
Steve's house is great. The room is as described: clean and quiet. Frogs outside made noise at night, but I found this entertaining - it didn't keep me awake at all. Steve and Dianne are laid back, wonderful hosts. Will stay there again if I'm in the area! Thanks guys!
I spent one week in Stevens pineapple house. Steven is a amazing host. He was helpful and gave a lot recommendations.
The house is clean. He shared the kitchen and the bathroom, but it wasn't a problem.
This place is a good point to discover the east and south shore of the big island.
The house is just 5 miles away the next grocery store, it is necessary to have a car.
I enjoyed to stay there and he was a great host. If I come back Iwould stay there again.
Thanks a lot Stven
Une maison perdue au cœur de la forêt, le chant des oiseaux pour vous accompagner, tout est fait pour vous détendre chez Steven et Diane qui sont de très sympathiques hôtes. Dommage de n'y être restés qu'une nuit !
We stayed at the Pineapple House for two nights. Coming from a city, we really enjoyed how secluded his place is, not to mention how dark and starry the sky is at night! Steven and Diana were really interesting and fun to talk to. As mentioned by other reviewers, they make you smoothies in the morning! There was another guest staying in the room adjacent to us so it was a packed house. If you're looking for privacy or a romantic getaway you should look elsewhere, but if you're looking to hang out with some friendly locals, look no farther.
