The space

Chai is a two storey two bedroom house with use of a beautiful shared pool. It has one bedroom upstairs with great views of the pool/rice fields and one bedroom downstairs in a separate pavilion. It has two Balinese style open air bathrooms, a large kitchen, spacious seating areas and can accommodate up to 4 adults and 2 children (sofa beds). A baby cot is also available upon request.

During your stay, you will experience a serenity that cannot be found in central Ubud.

There is a beautiful swimming pool (with children's pool area) beside the rice fields. This is shared with the other T houses and there is always a quiet time for a relaxing swim.

Daily maid service, free wifi (good connection) and basic breakfast is included in your stay. As maids have to juggle a few houses, they might not be that punctual.

The house offers you an experience to stay in an environmentally friendly and ecologically sustainable compound, which is a part of Balinese village life. The house is for people who love to meet other people, kids usually make new friends when they stay here.

Chai House is a 5 to 10 minute drive from Ubud centre and 10 minutes from the Monkey Forest. It is located just outside of the picturesque town of Ubud, famous for its food, views and cultural attractions, including striking waterfalls and temples.

The setting offers true tranquility as it is set away from the town with a few restaurants close by. The staff are available to make you an evening meal upon request using fresh local ingredients.

We have a fantastic local driver who will bring you from/to the airport (or other location) at very reasonable rates. He is highly recommended, with good English speaking and an exceptional knowledge of Bali; he can create a unique experience of the island for you. Guest feedback: "Honestly, don't waste your time thinking you want to take yourself everywhere and find it on your own: you'll never find it. He will save you loads of time and stress and is a genuine great guy."

Interaction with guests

The staff are great at solving practical problems, they live locally (they are the T House's neighbours) so there is always someone around. At night the watchmen are there to provide security and assistance.

The T House compound is 9 or 10 different villas sharing grounds. The dirt/gravel road to T House Klod (where Gerry's place is - aka Chai T house) is extra bumpy right now after recent rains - makes for interesting motor bike rides in and out of the property. The house and grounds itself were well maintained; the vibe casual and comfortable. It was a nice mix of local style setup + comforts of home for western foreigners. I read some reviews before I stayed at Gerry's place where people had mixed feelings about the bathrooms. It's worth mentioning I guess since the arrangement might be different than you'd find in other places that aren't tropical and where "open air" isn't the norm. There are two bathrooms, each with their own toilet/shower/sink/mirror. Each bathroom has their own entry though the bathrooms ARE accessible to each other without locking doors. If you are in one bathroom you can usually hear when someone is in the bathroom next to yours. I don't think it's a big deal but it is good to be aware of ahead of time. One thing that I learned while staying there is that the water heater only kicks on when either the kitchen sink is turned on OR the smaller, further of the two showers is turned on. The water heater does not turn on when the larger, closer shower is turned on. Maybe it can be fixed in the future but for now - it's just one of those things you should know. I really enjoyed my stay overall. The bed was comfortable. There was a tv and dvd collection plus a stereo that I made regular use of, which was a pleasant and unexpected part of my stay. There's a little information folder in the villa that was helpful. There was ample distribution of lighting and daily breakfast/cleaning services. You'll definitely want to know that there are quite a lot of mosquitoes in this area to take precaution (cover up or find a natural mosquito repellant). Also the tall trees in the compound were regularly losing their coconuts and jackfruit with the few rains and storms that happened so watch out for falling fruit. It sounds funny unless you're actually hit by one, then not so funny.

Perfect for families with children in all ages! The distance from the centre of Ubud is perfect, because you can relax by the pool when you get back from a buisy, and maybe take a Taxi to Ubud for dinner or visit the local restaurants near by. We are traveling with a 8-month old baby, and they could provide a baby bed with mosquito net, and the driver from the airport had a baby seat in the van. All in all, if er are going to Ubud again we wiłl defenatly stay at T-house.

T House was a great place to stay while we were in Ubud. Putu was such a fantastic and helpful driver, very respectful, friendly, and knowledgable. He helped us book a Mount Batur trek when our original booking fell through, and when he wasn't available to drive us, found other drivers for us. The breakfast was great; we recommend the pancakes! The only downsides of our stay at T House were the lighting and bathroom. The villa is pretty dark, especially with the dark interior, and the lights on the bottom floor of the villa aren't that bright. The openness of the bathroom made us uncomfortable, as the two bathrooms aren't separated (but it's possible to not see the other bathroom from one). The bathroom is also pretty dark and hard to see if showering at night.

Amazing place! Super easy to check in, friendly staff, refreshing pool looking over the rice fields, comfy beds, very secluded and private feeling. Loved the inside outside flow. Reasonably priced. We had 6 people which I would say it about maximum. Little bit out of town so prepare to taxi or rent scooters to get to the main shopping/eating area. Very quiet and peaceful because of this though.

This Villa is located in a wonderful space together with other Villas which you do not even notice. We loved the open bamboo style of the house and the swimming pool with view on the rice fields! The staff was helpful and nice. Even a reasonable dinner you can order in your own house. A perfect place to stay in a very calm neighbor hood with chickens and cows!

We got welcomed very well even in the middle of the night when we finally arrived. The Villa is located in a very quite and nice neighbor hood. We enjoyed the beautiful view of the rice fields and the pool in the garden is really beautiful. Waking up all in nature is magical and the house provides all you need. The breakfast is served right in your Villa which is very nice. We asked for a babysitter and they provided a very nice girl who watched our kids for a week. Thank you for the nice stay at your house.
