We booked in for a 9 night stay. As we were staying for such a long time we thought that an apartment would be more comfortable than a hotel. How wrong we were! Upon arrival I knew that we had made a huge mistake in booking this apartment. The entrance is scruffy and the entire building is in disrepair, the stair banisters were not secure and a number of the supports were broken, wobbly and dangerous. We had anticipated the 4 flights of stairs, what we hadn’t was that stairs are filthy with empty cigarette packets left on the stairs and cigarette butts. There is only one other apartment in the block occupied and that is by a “spa” which seemed to attract lots of males who would hover outside the entrance and ring the apartment buzzer late at night trying to gain entrance to the “spa”. In the basement where we dropped rubbish off, there was a sleeping bag which looked liked somebody was sleeping rough in. The other two apartments were empty (the doors were wide open) and in a bad state of repair. The street level door and 2nd internal door were continually left open which is obviously a security risk. We barricaded ourselves in each night with the coffee table as we really didn’t feel safe.
The apartment itself is okay and the location is 10 out of 10. It was clean enough, but not as modern and well kept as the pictures would suggest. The tap on the shower broke on the first day. Admittedly it was repaired very quickly, but the bathroom window latch didn’t work and had to be keep open by a piece of wood wedged at the base.
Some of the drawers in the bedroom were packed full of junk, and the under sink cupboard was disgusting. The room on the street level for rubbish was like a demolition site, and after seeing a sleeping bag in there we decided enough was enough.
We would have moved out immediately except for the amount that we had paid, but after 6 nights and after my husband left to return home, we pooled the balance of our holiday money and moved to serviced apartments, as this was not a good environment for two females to stay alone.
The first surprise I had when I arrived was that there was a 67-step climb up 5 floors to get to the apartment. The second surprise was that there were no towels in the apartment. The note left said that they would be available at 11a the next morning from a cleaners around the corner, but, when I called them at 11a the next morning, they told me that they were told to have them ready by 5p that day. Finally, there were jack hammers right outside the apartment on the street from 10p until 6a, both Thursday and Friday nights. It was so loud it was as if they were in the room.
The reservation was canceled 9 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
We stayed at this apartment over the Thanksgiving weekend. There was 4 of us (we were supposed to be 5). Apartment was at a GREAT location. Close to everything. Grand central is 2 blocks away. The apartment was clean and spacious. Theres a queen bed, a sofa bed and an inflattable queen mattress. Only downside for some people might be the fact that it is on the 5th floor and there's no elevator. Jamil was a great host. Easy to communicate with and flexible. I would stay here again!!
Large bright apartment and very central location. Huge comfortable couch. The host was gracious and helpful. The place was a bit more shabby than chic, and the last flight of stairs was a killer at the end of a day, but you still get a lot for the price!
This apartment is in a great location right next to Grand Central station. It was lovely and clean and had everything we needed including good wifi. Zack came to meet us to let us in and was very helpful and flexible about times. We had a late flight and kept us things in the flat all day without being charged for an extra night which was great. Would go back.
Not often does an apartment match photos as closely as in this spacious, centrally located place. Massive living room, well-equipped kitchen, and bedroom with a soul (the brick wall gives a great feeling to it). Highly recommended!
Jonah was very responsive to all of our needs, he is very attentive and quick with getting back to you regarding any questions you may have. In few words: great host very friendly and extremely helpful!
The apartment looks as exactly in the pictures. GREAT Location, near Grand Central Station.
Be prepared to work out your legs as the apartment is on the 5th floor.
Stayed two nights at Jonah's apt. My husband and I were meeting a friend of ours in NY that we have not seen in over a year and wanted a place other than a hotel room that we can relax in after a day out in the city to just sit back, have a few drinks, appetizers and catch up on life before going to dinner in a busy restaurant.
Jonah's apt. fit the bill. Don't judge a book by it's cover, If you are looking for an apt. with a nice facade, lobby and elevator this may not be for you. But if you are looking for a great central location, being able to catch most trains out of Grand Central to most places in the city and a nice long walk(or very short cab ride) to Times Square this may be for you. After walking up to the fifth floor (which was not difficult for me) I was welcomed by Zach who met me at the apartment and went over everything I needed to know, (TV,wifi) he was pleasant and very helpful. I noticed there was no coffee maker in the kitchen and he said it would be there when I got back and it was. He also mentioned if we had any concerns about anything to just call. The apt. was clean and the living room very roomy for a Manhattan apt. great for all of us to sit around on the sectional and talk. My girlfriend mentioned the queen pull out couch was very comfortable. The bedroom was quiet, kitchen and bath also clean. There is a 24 hour diner across the street which was great for an early breakfast and a little market on the corner for water, bread, juice etc. I believe a liquor store two doors away. You can pick up many delicious items in the Grand central market (Three blocks) if you want to bring food in and cook. Jonah is very attentive and quick with getting back to you regarding any questions you may have. All in all we had good weather a great time with our friend and a perfect location for what we were doing. Please do remember this is someone's apt. not a hotel so tread lightly so the next person can enjoy it. Cheers !
