About This Listing
Enjoy a fabulous two bedroom house in a wonderful, walkable neighborhood in the middle of SXSW. The open concept living space and large outdoor patio with fire pit and hammocks are perfect for relaxing with friends. This is East Austin at its best!
Enjoy SXSW while staying in this beautiful, fun, creative 2 bedroom and one bathroom house located a few short blocks from Downtown Austin.
Walk out the front door into a vibrant Eastside neighborhood with local restaurants, dive bars and historic institutions such as The Victory Grill, a legendary juke joint from the 1930's. We're a short walk to downtown and the E. 6th St scene. There's easy access everywhere by bus, walking, pedi-cab, bike or taxi. The airport is 15 minutes away, and in the past I've been able to help with pick-up and drop-off.
You will love the house: modern and eclectic. There are two large upstairs bedrooms and one full bathroom with a tub. Each bedroom has a queen bed, and air mattresses are available on request. The open concept living space is perfect for entertaining and enjoying a meal.
The front yard has custom landscaping with enormous agave plants that give way to a large private backyard and patio with a large fire pit, hammocks and lounge chairs.
The house has wi-fi and cable. Sorry, no visiting pets. There are two cats and one dog already in residence. They will be in a separate part of the property during your stay, but we can't accommodate more furry friends.
Due to the one bathroom situation, maximum capacity for SXSW is 4 people.
I'll be in a separate master suite downstairs that has a private back entrance and small private yard for the pets. If you need anything, I'm happy to help but I always respect guests' privacy and space.
That said, I'm glad to grab a drink and swap SXSW stories. I'll probably be busy during the Interactive and Film sessions. My friend Brenda Laurel is on an Interactive panel, so I'll be checking out her session and enjoying whatever else I stumble into...
Guests have the full two bedroom, one bathroom house to themselves: bedrooms, bathroom and the commons areas of the kitchen, living room and dining room are all yours.
The homeowner will be in the private downstairs master suite with separate entry.
Interaction with Guests
I follow my guest's lead in terms of interaction...
Last year, a couple of guys from a film production company in Louisiana stayed for 5 days. They worked hard and were very busy, I saw them at most two times for 5 minutes...
Three years ago, I hosted two Icelandic folk singers, and we hung out almost every night and had a blast!
Being able to walk downtown cannot be beat. When SXSW is at its most crazy, I'm always glad I can get around without even needing a bike.
The neighborhood restaurants are great, check out Blue Dahlia for open faced sandwiches, fresh salads and their delectable blueberry blintzes. The house is 4 blocks from Franklin BBQ--voted best in the USA. Need I say more?
Walk, bike, skip, hop, bus, taxi, pedi-cab...
When it isn't rented for SXSW this house is my home...please be respectful. No smoking indoors, and please use ashtrays if smoking outside. I don't charge extra for clean up, and so far no guests have made me sorry about this policy.
Awesome space and a perfect location for SXSW. I always try to stay in East Austin when I visit, and this spot is a great reminder of why - very short walk to downtown and everywhere important, and ever so slightly off the beaten path so you have a spot to relax when you need to. There's good feels inside, a nice patio and fire pit out back, and it's just down the block from Switched On and Blue Dahlia for great espresso, brunch, and vintage synth gear. Thank you.
We stayed at Robin's house for 5 days during SXSW 2013, and with all the hotels booked up, Robin's house was a life-saver. The location was close enough to walk to the downtown hotspots (as long as it wasn't raining) without being in the middle of the craziness.
The house is exactly as described and shown in the pictures: clean, comfortable and well-decorated. The outdoor porch and patio are perfect for having a morning cup of coffee. As stated in the ad, Robin has a dog and a couple cats that live on the property (they lived outside or in the efficiency apartment next-door during our stay), but all her pets are friendly and didn't bother us at all.
Robin was a wonderful host. She went out of her way to make this a home away from home. The pantry and fridge were stocked with the essentials, and she made sure we had plenty of towels, toiletries etc. Robin was very respectful of our privacy, but she made sure to check in with us before, during and after the stay to make herself available if we needed anything at all.
Highly-recommended house and host!
About the Host, Robin
Some of my favorite experiences in life occurred when I was traveling around the world, and now I welcome the chance to host other travelers in my home in Central East Austin. I've had the good fortune to live and work in Vienna, Tel Aviv, Tai Pei, and Bergama, Turkey. My favorite travel destinations have been Thailand and India (Goa is at the top of my list.) I have tried to create a "mini-Goa" in my backyard with hammocks and a relaxing vibe. Alas, no Indian Ocean is nearby but Barton Springs is a 10 minute bike ride and Town Lake is even closer.
Please feel free to contact me with questions about the house and neighborhood. I've hosted musicians for SXSW since 2010, and it has been a lot of fun!
