We really enjoyed our stay with Ina and hope to be visiting again. This isn't a luxurious rental, its a comfortable, extremely clean, cosy and well cared for rental for a reasonable price. Other reviews have comented on the neighborhood and location, so I won't spend a lot of time on that other than to say we never felt unsafe and the close beach access was a fantastic bonus for us. We recieved a warm welcome from Ina, she helped us figure out transportation from the airport, gave us great advice on food, activities, getting around town, (easy once you get your bearings), and helped us make the most of our vacation. I highly recomend this rental.
Ina's a great host and was amazingly helpful during our stay. She accommodated our late arrival to Playa and even surprised us with a plate of fresh local fruits, so my partner and I didn't have to worry food while we settled in. She also gave us great recommendations for local eateries and places to visit during our trip.
The room itself is spacious and clean-- exactly as it appears in the photos-- and just a short walk to the beach. With a car, we were just 5-10 minutes away from downtown Playa and Walmart.
Overall, we had a wonderful stay with Ina.
We enjoyed staying with Ina, she is very friendly and welcoming and reliable! When we arrived she had a fruit basket and water prepared for us and she was very helpful with explaining everything to us.
The place was fine for a short stay and definitely great value for money. It is not luxurious or anything but you will find everything you need and spend most of the day at the wonderful beach anyways. Be prepared for bugs, it's normal in Mexico, we had a huge cockroach in the shower one day and Ina came running to rescue us :) It's important to take out the garbage often and keep the lids on the sinks so no bugs can come and still there are small flies and little bugs. Also there is no air condition which might be unpleasant during hotter months, the two fans kind of move the air but the room is still very hot even when the air outside has already cooled off. It's also worth mentioning that there are several cats on the premises, if you are allergic or don't like cats that's important to know however they are very cute and won't bother you. The hot water has to be lit in a rather complicated manner but Ina will show you and it's hot anyways so the normal water is fine too. The fridge in the room is very loud and generally the room is quite noisy, dogs bark outside, people walk by, there's not a lot of privacy and peace which gave us a hard time to sleep/rest sometimes. We actually left 2 days earlier than planned.
In total we liked the stay, maybe the whole place could have been a little cleaner but I have to admit with this kind of humidity and the beach nearby that's a tricky task. The beach is great by the way, if you want to lie down I can recommend the Canibal Royal Beach Club, it's great :)
Ina's house was a perfect choice. We are not interested in clubs, and touristy attractions . We choose to live with the locals , and learn about the foods, the language, the everyday rituals. The apartment is located is a clean area of town is only 5 minutes from a beach that is safe, and a destination point for the local mexican families. The neighborhood is mostly mexican with some expat Canadians and Americans. There is an Oxxo just down the street, a school, police station, taxi and buses...collectivos... Supermarket type stores with in walking distance, and a wonderful fruiteria about 10 minutes walk from the apartment . Ina is a wonderful host, with advice and recommendations for food, travel and " must sees".
It was amazing staying Ina in Playa del Carmen. Her home was very welcoming and well decorated. She was very diligent in making sure I arrived and left safely. Ina was extremely informative of the area. Her cats, hamock, and garden... made hanging outside very welcoming also. The beach was extremely close to walk too and I enjoyed walking up and down the beach everyday which linked to all the other main beach areas along 5th street. i'll definitely be staying here again when I come back to Playa del carmen and I would recommend Ina to everyone.
We spend five wonderful nights at Ina's apartement. It is very clean and lovely decorated and feels like home away from home. Ina is a great host and gives you good tips on good restaurants and things to do. We woud highly recommend this accommodation to all travellers who want to stay outside the tourist zone and enjoy a stay next to locals and near the nice beach. We loved out stay at Ina's apartment during a week. The place was very close to the beach, which we enjoyed and an easy bus or taxi ride to Playa's city centre. The room was clean, the environment calm and Ina was helpful for recommending things to do and to see around and a very nice hostess. We both enjoyed stating around town and making day trips to beaches and sites nearby. A good experience and a good choice of apartment overall!
We stayed 5 MONTHS with Ina and LOVED it! Ina will go out of her way to do anything she can to help you enjoy your stay. She is a thoughtful, gracious, and fun loving host who treated us like family and friends. The location just off the beach is great. We were greeted with smiles and friendly hello's throughout the local neighborhood and community. If you or a travel companion would get upset and lose sleep at the sound of some dogs barking at night, go elsewhere. However, if you are an animal lover who knows that chances are it's because one the neighbor cats is messing with them right outside their gate, you'll just smile and go back sleep. Enjoying these and other unique characteristics of the neighborhood. We are grateful for the opportunity to stay as long as we did, and hope to be back.
Ina is a wonderful host and we continue to enjoy our stay. The studio is nice, clean, and cozy. The common space on the patio is also comfortable. The location next to the sea is great and there is a good restaurant and CV store a few doors down. Overall, it is a quiet location to sit and listen to the birds chirping away with occasional
traffic and noise on the street, like any residential / business area. The neighborhood can be intimidating at first sight compared to the resort and tourist areas you see in Playa del Carmen, but we have always felt safe and the people here are very friendly. If you want to be closer to downtown and the nightlife go elsewhere, otherwise I would highly recommend.
