The Space

Harvest Gold Room Sleeps 2 people comfortably in a queen size bed with a memory foam topper.

We live in an awesome home built in the early 70's that we have lovingly updated. All stainless steel kitchen with retro robins egg blue vinyl tile floors, white quartz stone counter tops and beautiful mosaic tile back splash. A nice formal dining room and a breakfast area in the kitchen with a bar height dining table that is open to the large living area with vaulted ceilings.

The guest bath has just had brand new gorgeous dark green granite and chrome fixtures installed. We have a total of 2 bedrooms that will sleep 6 people comfortably and an awesome 1948 Spartan travel trailer. *Please see our other listings if you would like to book more than one room or see the trailer!

We always have the coffee flowing in the morning and usually offer breakfast tacos at least one morning during your stay and often scones or whatever other magic we whip up we are happy to share if we have extra. If you would like a more formal breakfast we are happy to cook up just about anything for a small fee.

Our home is just under 10 mins from downtown, just east of I-35 and north of downtown, in a quiet and very safe residential neighborhood, where we are friends with our neighbors. There are bus stops less than a mile away & the nearest light rail station is just 2.5 miles.

We have the most glorious oak tree out front - we love so much we sometimes leave the christmas light up year round just to show it off a bit at night.

Interaction with Guests

Interactions with guests in the past has ranged from seeing them only on initial welcoming all the way to going out for a night on the town with them. It really depends on the guests themselves.

The Neighborhood

This neighborhood was developed in the late 60's with special attention to maintaining the many old- growth Live of which is in the front yard. The over-sized streets (due to lack of sidewalks) have relatively low traffic and are a great place to walk or jog in addition to providing ample parking spaces.

Getting around

There are 2 bus routes (Capital Metro) within 1 block. And the the light rail station is just under 3 miles away.

  • This was my first experience with airbnb, and I was lucky to be John as my first host. He is very friendly, helping and available. Room was very neat and clean and well decorated. I felt very homely. He has two dogs but they never bother us. They were very friendly too. I really enjoyed my stay. I would surely love to stay there again.

  • My bf and I had stayed at John's place for 2 weeks. The house was renovated by himself and it was so cozy and cleaned. John is very creative, accommodating and upbeat person. The 2 dogs in his house are very cute and polite. There are few restaurants and markets in walking distance, but you should have car to enjoy more in Austin. The house has easy access to downtown area and to the airport as well. The main brunch of whole foods in Austin downtown area is amazing.
Thank you for everything and hope to see you someday John!

  • Stayed Johns during SXSW. He was a very good host, even picked me up at the airport and gave me a few cheap lifts downtown during my stay. The room was perfect, and I had plenty of privacy. I'm glad I stayed at Johns.

John was a great host his place was amazing he is just such an interesting person from the artwork to his oak tree in front the house. His place was clean, comfy artsy and just a great home away from home. He was so helpful he put my bumper back on my car isn't that nice ? :) he had these two dogs that were just so sweet. The next time I come back to Austin I couldn't think of anywhere else I would rather stay.

  • To say that we are "positively reviewing" this listing is a HUGE understatement. John Cuddeback, his friends, beautiful home, garden, Namaste tent, hammock, camper, kitchen, cooking & hospitality are the best we have ever experienced in our worldwide travels as a band! Waking up to coffee, fresh scones, pancakes, music and positive energy was the most energising way to start our days at SXSW. John & his partner were involved with us as a band from the very start and were so kind to scoot us around until we rented our own car, give suggestions, and hook us up with instruments and backline that we couldn't bring from Turkey. They partied with us, chilled with us and yet some times we didn't even know they were around in the house. The beds were more than comfortable, the rooms spacious and the neighbourhood incredible. Don't look anywhere else - this is THEE BEST place to stay in Austin, hands down. But we've already booked them for next year so don't even try!

Thank you John & Seasha for the most ridiculously cool week of our festival lives. We miss the turkey chilli and "special" blood orange slushies already. You made us feel so at home and comfortable - letting us be the crazies that we are!

We love you guys! ROCK N ROLL!!!

  • John was a fantastic host and his property was perfectly located for us while my band was playing SXSW. His home is welcoming and was about as comfortable as you could get, we were even lucky enough to get breakfast Tacos in the morning on a couple of occasions.
John is friendly, funny and helpful, and is great to hang out with.
I highly recommend this Air B'n'B for anyone hitting up Austin who's after a home away from home.

What you 'see' is but a wee filament in the tapestry of Me. Though a true Austinite (born here while my folks completed their graduate studies) I grew up abroad - in Saudi Arabia. The overseas experience and extensive travels through Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East during those formative years have developed within me an interest for exploring and meeting new people. I returned to Austin in the early 80's to complete my 'formal' education at the University of Texas and I now work in Environmental Affairs in addition to restoring vintage camper trailers - when i finished the house remodel, I had to do something! Other pass times include camping, cycling, gardening & volunteering for random community activities. I am a tirelessly persistent & lustfully compassionate Master of Rowdy Bliss!! I'm one who is fiercely tender, ironically sincere, scrupulously curious, lyrically logical and aggressively sensitive. I am on the prowl...searching within, seeking without.... May your moccasins always find happy trails
