Some additional details:
We live in a two-story home in Prosser Lakeview, which is a neighborhood about five minutes north of the town of Truckee. We occupy the top floor and the apartment is on the ground level. It's a large one bedroom, one bathroom with small efficient kitchen/dining area and a nice sized living room.
The bedroom is in the back of the apartment and has a double bed with all the trimmings - down comforters, electric blanket if you prefer, lots of pillows. There is a desk and chair in the bedroom and wi-fi is available. The bathroom is in a short hall between the bedroom and living room and has a tub/shower combo with a large closet in the hall. The front of the apartment is an open floor plan with kitchen, dining and living room all open to each other. The kitchen, divided from the living room by a natural redwood bar, has everything you need for cooking - pots and pans, dishes, utensils, microwave, coffee pot, tea kettle. The living room has a fold-down couch for additional sleeping, a wood stove as primary heat (with electric heaters in each room for additional heating needs), television, stereo and i-pod hook-up.
Our home is a short walk to Prosser Lake and the acres of open space surrounding it. We live in a neighborhood consisting primarily of year-round local residents, lots of dogs, friendly and social neighbors.
I have worked as a paralegal for a local law firm for the past 28 years and love being part of our mountain community. I have many interests including gardening, cooking, home crafting, sustainable living, mother earth and outdoor activities of all kinds. I have a company with my daughter called "Taste of Truckee" which makes all natural lotions, lip balms, salves and lotion bars. Find us on (website hidden)! My partner Chris is a rock climbing instructor and guide who has been climbing the rock on Donner Summit and around Tahoe for the past 25 years. We've hosted many friends over the years and I hope that our experience will provide the kind of comfortable, accommodating visit you are looking for. Come play - the mountains are calling!
Kelly was very responsive, helpful and super nice. She lives upstairs and takes the time to make sure the apartment has a nice fire going before you arrive. The Better Base Camp was comfortable and a great place to stay for a quick weekend trip to Tahoe.
Kelly's place was perfect for what we needed. The kitchen was great and big enough for making a big meal at night. The bathroom was clean and spacious. The bedroom is cozy with a cool mirror by the bed! We will definitely be back here in the future. We were only two people but It would be comfortable even with four people since it is quite large. Kelly was also super friendly and accommodating.
This is the second time we stayed at the Better Base Camp. Kelly was as wonderful a host as ever, and we definitely plan to come back. It's cozy, comfortable, and in the perfect location to get out and explore the awesome outdoors around Truckee. I can't recommend it enough!
The apartment was so cozy, and Kelly was extraordinarily helpful and hospitable. Highly recommend!
We got engaged at the Better Base Camp! Yep, you read that right - my dear boyfriend felt so much at home that he popped the question.
Kelly's home is a lovely, clean, inviting space. I absolutely loved the wood stove. Kelly was extremely friendly; all communications prior to our arrival were timely & detailed. She & her dog met us as we arrived. She already had a fire going and the apartment was toasty warm after a long, cold drive.
The apartment was cozy & clean, with plenty of down comforters on the bed & cooking supplies in the kitchen. They have the most creative re-use of rock climbing ropes I've ever seen. Grocery story is just 5 min drive down the road; we had home-cooked breakfast every day. You can't do that in a hotel room!
This was my first time booking through airbnb, and I had a great experience. I went for a couple days off with my boyfriend, originally to go snowboarding. Unfortunately, the snow wasn't great but when we got there, Kelly had made sure to have a fire started for us in the furnace and was quick to make suggestions when we asked about places to eat. We ended up spending our time relaxing and visiting lake tahoe. This was the perfect getaway for us, thanks Kelly!
never ended up staying but she was responsive to me and listened to our needs...
Kelly's place is super cozy and comfortable and has all the amenities my daughter and I needed while there for the week we were there. Kelly was willing and available to help with with her generous and kind disposition. The efficient fireplace created a warm ambience and there were plenty of space heaters to ensure our continued comfort. I highly recommend Kelly's place and Kelly as a host. Thanks so much.
Chris and Kelly were very gracious hosts! The apartment was cozy and very comfortable. It had a solid Tahoe vibe to it, and we felt right at home. Heaters were in every room so if and when it gets cold, you're good to go. Our hosts were very friendly and welcoming, and they helped us with local directions and tips for getting around and seeing Tahoe. Once she's sniffed you out, their dog is super cool as well! We highly recommend this place.
My wife and I really enjoyed our experience here. Kelly and Chris made us feel right at home. The apartment was spacious and had everything that we were looking for. We also enjoyed the backyard. The location was very convenient to the center of town as well as great hiking trails and Kelly and Chris were very helpful with tips and recommendations. We also appreciated all of their generosity in helping us to celebrate our one year anniversary. We definitely plan on going back and staying at the Better Base Camp in the future.
