About This Listing
Large bedroom with private bath (shower, no tub). High ceilings lots of windows, private entry, bamboo floors, eco house. Radiant heating. Very spacious. No poisons used in household. WiFi. Double glass doors open to patio and the back yard looking out at oak trees. King Bed. Beautiful room although some of the 'finished' work is unfinished. House is located at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac in Sonoma. Walking distance to several eateries including a great beer pub, pizza, Mexican and Thai restaurants and the local coffee roaster cafe. Also walking distance to the theater, second hand store, dollar store and delicious ice cream store and produce market.
Walk or drive to downtown and enjoy food, wine and shopping. Visit any of the truly great retailers including SIGH, a sparkling wine bar or La Bogeda, just two of the truly unique offerings on the square.
The house is a green built home made of straw bales. Warm and cozy, quiet and serene.
Hosts will provide towels, linens and privacy. We can suggest many local eateries as well as wine tasting options and entertainment resources. We can recommend spas for massages and hiking trails within a short walk or easy car ride away.
You won't find a TV or a kitchen, just very reasonably priced accommodations.
Sonoma has a lot to do so come enjoy the town for a weekend or extended stay.
We have recently modified out check out time, moving it 1 hour sooner to 11am. We find this works for the majority of our guests and allows us better opportunity to manage the room.
They will have access to a room and bath that are separated from the rest of the house and not shared.
Interaction with Guests
We're happy to say hello, but find that most of the time our guests are as busy as we are and we seldom cross paths. We don't require our guests to "check in" and generally this seems to work, with many of our guests arriving quite late after a day of travel and dinner on the square.
Public transportation is mostly non-existent. There are taxi services and the town is small enough that biking is quite doable.
Quiet after 10pm, we try to keep our noise down until after 8am as well. We are early birds.
The room felt quite welcoming and was absolutely beautiful! It was spacious and indeed private, and everything was clean. Plenty of towels were provided for us (i.e. many more than we needed!) and our stay was pleasant overall. I really, really liked the shower -- hot water was actually very hot and it was not necessary to wait for the water to turn warmer like most showers I've used. There were also levers for both water pressure and temperature -- very cool!
Thanks to our hosts for creating a wonderful accommodation alternative. Everything was as stated in the listing and as positive as all the other reviews have detailed. As anticipated, we found the space even more welcoming than the photos express. Unique, spacious, clean, private, yet the hosts were in reach if needed. We did meet and chat with our hosts and it felt like staying with old friends. We also used text to communicate a few times. We did request a cooler which came in handy for us in the room and around Sonoma as they granted it for this use as well. If their listing at all appeals to you, don't hesitate to book it. We've stayed in and around Sonoma at least 6 times now and this is a gem of a stay.
We loved that it was different than a hotel or BnB. We loved experiencing the quiet comfort of the straw bale construction. We loved the spaciousness of the bedroom and bath and all of the details from comfortable pillows, bathroom amenities, travel information to the flowers. We loved the privacy...the quiet. The lack of expectation to chat yet the naturalness of doing so.
We had a wonderful time staying at Steve's, we arrived later in the evening and he had everything prepared for us. It was very nice that we didn't have to rush to be there by a specific time.
The place was very clean and well prepared, we enjoyed his recommendations and it made for a great trip to Sonoma!
Better than a hotel and it was our first time experiencing airbnb! I can only hope that the rest of the places will live up to this. We really enjoyed the space and the feel of the home. Huge shower with hot water, ladies! The host was great and very informative of the wineries and restaurants. The location is great too as it's very close to downtown and many restaurants. We simply loved it!
This place was amazing! The room was spacious, comfortable, and quiet in a great area of Sonoma. The private entrance was great so we could come and go without disturbing anyone and the bathroom reminded me of a spa. Even though we never met Steve in person, he was a great host. He left restaurant suggestions and contact information in the room if we needed anything. He also was great about little touches like having cooler we could use for the day or backpacks if we went hiking. I would definitely stay here again and I've already recommend it to several friends who are looking to visit the area. My only regret is we didn't have time to sit on the back patio with a some wine and admire the back yard.
