Casa „Oceanside“ was designed with love and function in mind. Cool and open during the hot summer months, but dry and cozy once the rain hits. The two storied concrete bungalow, perfectly tucked away in a lush tropical two acre garden teeming with wildlife can be, whatever you want it to be: A „surfer´s private refuge“, a „birdwatcher´s colourful paradise“, a „quiet girlie getaway“, a „honeymooner´s romantic hideout“ or a „wildlife enthusiat´s research base“. The house sleeps two persons comfortable (kingsize bed), or three at the most (additional sofa). Steps away from Playa Sombrero in the Matapalo Area, Casa „Oceanside“ offers everything you need for a lifetime experience along the jungles of the the prestine Osa Peninsula.
Being so far off the grid, we work with solar power around here. Our panels provide enough energy to power the lights, a refrigerator to keep your drinks cool and your veggies fresh, your laptop and also the B&W stereo system (iPod or iPhone docking station). Our fresh water source is a deep well. The water gets pumped via a 12v solar pump into the tank ontop of a tower and flows back by gravity into the house. Our water has been tested by a labratory in New York and is 100% drinkable and good for cooking. The fully equipped kitchen comes with all amenities, pots, pans, cuttlery and towels, a 4 range gas-stove, a big „Sundancer“ fridge and a breakfast countertop for 2-4 persons. The storage room that houses the solar batteries and the inverter (converting 12 volt solar power to 110v) also has a security safe for all your valuables such as credit cards, passports, cash money or cameras/phones. Although the signal is weak out here, internet access is possible. We will provide you with an iPhone 3G and a local sim card, so you can log on via Bluetooth and Hotspot if necessary.
A spacious living area with two sofas borders the office space with a big office table, bookshelf with plenty of reading material in german, spanish and english and a reading sofa/day bed combo, that can easily serve as a third bed. The bathroom provides towels, hot water shower, hot water sink and toilet and was just redone with a very stylish slate floor. Upstairs you will find the masterbedroom with a huge kingsize bed and a super comfy new matress. A tight mashed mosquito net will help to keep insects out during the wet months. From December until May, you could easily sleep without the net. The Masterbedroom is surrounded by terraces. The roofs of the bathroom and the office also serve as hangout platforms.
A big sundeck with two hammocks and wooden chairs plus table are perfect for that sundown cocktail while you watch howler monkeys up close, crazy squirrel monkeys swiftly leaping great distances from branch to branch, pairs of Scarlett Macaws flying overhead and hummingbirds buzzing close to your head, trying to reach the feeders. If you are lucky you will see an anteater strolling through the garden or a coati (pizote) checking for something to eat in the tropical bush. From the office roof, you can climb onto the roof of the bedroom via a comfortable ladder and gaze at the starts at night. During the summer months it is highly recommendable to throw some pillows up onto the roof and lie there for hours with a cool drink in hand, watching shooting stars, or checking the always visible Orion constellation, the beautiful Pleiades or the southern Zodiac signs. Nothing short of miraculous.
„National Geographic“ described the Osa Peninsula as „one of the world´s biologically most intense places on earth.“ Once here, you will quickly find out why. A hobby-birdwatcher from Minnesota recently counted 137 different species of birds on our property alone. Add the Riverotters, playing in our clear water river, that runs through the property, the occasional Sloth, Armadillos, Caimans, Turtles, Toucans, Aracaris, Monkeys, Anteaters, Iguanas or the Sea Turtles, Pelicans, Dolphins and Whales and you get an idea.
As for activities, they are almost too numerous to mention: Perfect Longboard- and easy learning waves for surfing, roll in right infront of the house. Grab a board, walk 80 yards to the beach at hightide and enjoy the waves with only you and a few other friendly surfers in the line-up. For the more experienced surfer, world class waves can be found in the close vicinity. Also: sea kayaking, windsurfing, kitesurfing, SUP paddling, swimming, snorkeling, boogieboarding, sportfishing and boat trips are all possible. We can assist you with your trip into the Corcovado National Park too. Tidepools are waiting a 10 minute walk down the beach. Treeclimbing, jungle hikes, waterfall repelling, horseback riding, bird watching, yoga classes, massages, or just long walks along the wild and empty beaches without ever meeting another soul will make your stay a remarkable memory. Bring sandals, the sand gets very hot.
During your stay, there will be property managment nearby. If you have questions, just ask. Rental Car assitance, medical attention, shopping in Puerto Jimenez, trip booking etc... We will be more than happy to help.

What a wonderful vacation home! Home is private, clean, and comfortable. Property is abundant with wildlife and very close to the beach. We had the best time with Michelle and Eddy and they were extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the area. Highly recommended!
If you are considering visiting the Osa then I have two tips: 1. stop considering and go visit - "amazing" doesn't even do it justice, and 2. stay at this house! From the location, to the grounds/house, to the hosts - staying here/visiting the Osa was easily the best decision we made for our whole trip. (oh - and one other tip: drive to the Osa - the road is paved all the way with very few potholes and, in Eddy's words, your first views of Gulfo Dulce from the hills will take your breath away...).
The house looks exactly like the photos - very clean, well kept, and we immediately felt comfortable here. The grounds are absolutely beautiful. We are not the type to just "sit around" on vacation but we could have easily spent all day just relaxing in the gardens listening to the monkeys & birds or hanging out at the "bench" on the beach (which is actually more like a really comfy lounge center). The house is also well located - not too far from town, close to "Martina's bar," the road to Matapalo (with beaches so pretty that it is hard for you to believe your eyes), and about 1 1/2 hrs from Carate (important because we were planning to hike Corcovado). Yes - the roads after Puerto Jiminez are dirt but that's part of the fun of the Osa (and driving here really isn't that bad!). The house is off the grid (as they all are out here) but it was SO nice to be fully away from "life" and it never negatively impacted our stay. I will admit that I was worried because there is no A/C (both at the house and on the Osa) but I never even noticed it - there was a nice breeze all day/night long and I slept better here than I have in a long time! (also - no A/C means you wake to the sounds of monkeys and parrots - pretty cool trade off!).
What made this house truly amazing, though, is the owners/hosts - Michelle & Eddy. They are just the nicest people you will meet and so, very, helpful. You will be happy that they stay close by during your stay because they are a huge resource for "unknown" things to do/places to see/general tips about the Osa. The communication before the trip was great - their responses were prompt and very thorough. They helped us to arrange a sunset sail on the golf (highly recommend!) and a few day adventures which were some of our favorites. If they have a recommendation for something to do - trust it and do it...you won't regret it (they have good advice).
We have completely fallen in love with the magic of the Osa and it was so hard to leave. We are already planning a return trip and will, without a doubt, stay with Michelle & Eddy again...
The surfers beach house is absolutely divine, and we are so glad we stayed! The location is excellent, it's totally private, right off the beach and nestled in jungle, with wild life all around. The house itself is stunning and looks like it should be in an architectural magazine, plus it is functional in really smart ways. The Osa jungle is a hot and damp place, but this house stays pretty cool and dry because of how its built. Plus the balconies! The pictures don't do it justice.
In the high season it's a short walk to a restaurant/bar that is a treat to visit. The only downfall of our stay was having to leave! Eddy & Michelle are excellent hosts- they helped us hook up taxis and other necessities, were kind, helpful and laid back. We feel so happy to have met them and stayed in their beautiful home!
Awesome place, awesome hosts. We loved it. The house is really cool and Eddy and Michelle are in a shack nearby to help out with everything. Because we don't speak Spanish, this made life so much easier! But more than this, Eddy and Michelle are fabulous people and great fun to hang out and surf with. The surfing was world class and I got a few mornings at top spots all to myself. Eddy was unreal guiding me to surf spots including a secret spot which made my last session (four foot, offshore!) perfecto. There are plenty of waves in the area and small crowds-- a great surfing experience. But if you don't surf, there is a fantastic national park nearby (we saw heaps of snakes and animals), yoga, kayaking (through mangroves), etc. Again, Michelle and Eddy helped organise much of our fun. Their house is a must visit in my view if you love the outdoors and surfing. They are living the dream and I was stoked to share it with them. I will be back for sure!
What a place! Osa peninsula is so remote & pristine and this was the perfect house to relax after our jam-packed holiday. It certainly is the place to come for some pure relaxation and/or surfing. Eddy & Michelle are so welcoming and will help investigate and arrange any tours that you'd like to do. They booked a surfing lesson for me and I was standing up on the board within the hour - I had a great teacher! The house is beautiful and you're completely surrounded by nature - we got woken up by Howler Monkeys every morning & the macaw's are so loud but amazing to see. There's no need to trek over to the National Park - you've got it all here. You're literally a few steps away from the beach as well and there's a bar not too far away.
We loved this place and would definitely come back!
Dear Michelle & Eddy,
Ross and I want to say thank you for making our at your home stay truly incredible.
Ross really appreciated you showing him all the great surf spots he enjoyed surfing so much.
We loved staying in your amazing home such an incredible experience one which we will treasure forever.
We just found out we are having a little boy so hopefully one day we can bring him back and teach him how to surf.
Michelle and Eddy you were both such amazing hosts, you helped make our stay so enjoyable, we really felt like it was home.
Thank you so much
Melissa & Ross
We first met Eddy & Michelle upon arriving in Puerto Jimenez and quickly learned how great they are.
Both Eddy & Michelle took the time to explain everything about the house and make sure we were comfortable. The house is perfect and well reflected in their picture set. It was very clean and supplied with all the amenities we needed for cooking. The bed was super comfy and the linens were changed occasionally/as needed. Crashing waves were our nightly lullaby.
Beyond comfort Eddy & Michelle made us feel welcome in their home by warmly treating us like old friends and even introducing us to the other locals.
Surfing conditions right at the beach in front of the house were epic to tantalize the experts (Eddy & Michelle) but also great for a beginner such as myself.
Our stay at the Casa Oceanside exceeded all of our expectations. We would definitely like to return to this perfect little slice of the Osa. We would recommend a stay with Eddy & Michelle to family, friends or anyone interested in surfing, fishing, the beach, bird and wildlife watching, solitude, and/or the rainforest.
Pura vida Eddy & Michelle!
Tres amigos en paraíso
I rented the Surfer's Beach House with 2 friends by the playa sombrero for a week. From (phone number hidden).
Michelle and Eddy were able to fulfill every Holiday wishes we had.
In advance of the arrival they gave us recommendations about the car rental also they have responded to all our questions we had. Where we get fishing equipment, rent surf boards, best company to fly to Puerto Jimenez etc.
Eddy picked us up right by the airport and welcomed us heartily with a Iperial.
Helped us with the car rentals, showed us the most important places in Puerto Jimenze (supermarket, banks, internet cafes, pharmacy, etc.) and the way to the house by the Playa Sombrero.
The house and the property is located 20 minutes away from Puerto Jimenez in direction to the corcovado nature reserve.
The house and the property is a real dream, it is right on the Playa Somberero with a small river through the property and a picturesque natural garden. The house had everything we wishes in our holidays. A fully equipped kitchen, cozy living room, large bathroom, terrace with hammocks and chill out sofas. Hot and cold potable water. current without interruptions.
Everything was clean and well maintained.
The Playa Sombrero is located just outside the doorstep and is the perfect beach for surfers, Beginners and also advanced surfers. The waves break about 150m outside and make a long surf possible. Right and left breakers. Despite the perfect conditions we had the waves and the beach for ourselves.
In nearby radius there are still several other beaches Playa Dulce, Playa Matapalo, Playa Backwash etc. Backwash is one of the most beautiful beach I've ever seen.
The National Park is just around the corner, hiking, tree climbing, wildlife viewing snorkeling, fishing, everthing is possible.
In the near vicinity also located few other accommodation, one pizzeria and 3 - 4 restaurants also a good bar.
Because, fortunately the area is not crowded as other parts of Costa Rica we quickly got to know the locals and other visitors.
They have warmly welcomed us into your village community =) If there was something to celebrating we were always invited, which is in my opinion not self-evident. We had amusing and unforgettable evenings and so did some acquaintances with the locals. Big Up! to all Playa Sombrero's.
Eddy and Michelle also helped us to organize the stay after them. Thanks for that, the accommodation at the Rio Chirripo was perfect, the hike to the Chirripo was a great experience.
Thank you, we had a great time.
Greetings Michael, Hans Christophe
