Being one of the oldest cities in Indonesia, Yogyakarta has many heritage buildings and monuments. The number one must-see attraction is Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono's palace, better known as Kraton Ngayogyakarta. Other heritage buildings from colonial era are: BNI '46 building, Kantor Pos Besar (Central Post Office) building, and Bank Indonesia building, all of them are located near Sultan's palace.
Yogyakarta is a heaven of inexpensive foods, and some tasty and filling dishes can be had for as low as US$0.25. There are hundreds, if not thousands of hawker stalls offering inexpensive foods.
Yogyakarta is a relatively small city, so travelling around town should not be too expensive. If you are traveling on foot, note that a street sign facing you at a corner indicates the name of the street you are entering, not the cross street. The Tourism Authority has maps in English that can be obtained from its offices next to Hotel Mutiara on Jl. Malioboro, at the airport and the train station. Beware that these maps are not to scale.

Tiga Lima Homestay was lovely. Our shower was broken but we were upgraded to another room free of charge. The room was quiet, spacious, clean and breakfast was amazing. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Scooter hire was available at the homestay. All in all 10/10.
Tout était parfait! 10/10
I really enjoyed my stay here. The room was spacious and clean and the staff were really helpful and friendly. As others mentioned it is a bit far from the centre but for me that was a plus and I really liked that it was down some small side streets in a quiet neighbourhood. Very easy to get to catch an early morning flight from too.
I enjoyed staying at Tiga Lima - it was a great discovery for me, an oasis of peace and calm, I felt good just walking into the garden area, and I wished I had found out about this place years ago. Some commenters mention that it is a bit far from the key downtown tourist sites, but I don't think this is a problem at all. In fact, it is nice to have a little space separating one from the bustle and the folks trying to get you to buy this or that. The area is quite strategic (Universities, the trendy Jl. Cenderawasih, Jl Solo, etc), and not actually far from Malioboro in any case. As for the Tamarind Room, it is very spacious, clean, tastefully designed, and I felt comfortable there. The patio table in front was a nice touch, a pleasant place to sit. I found the room to be a bit sparse, in the sense that there was some empty space where some comfy seating might have been in order - but this is a matter of taste I suppose. In any case, I was happy to come home to the room every night, and I had no trouble sleeping soundly. The staff were also very helpful and friendly, and the value is much better then anything one can find among the more 'centrally' located hotels. I recommend it.
First of all thank you for staying in tigalima homestay & great feedback about us! It has been a pleasure to have you staying with us and hopefully to see you again next time you visit Yogya! And about your recommendation to put more furniture in room tamarind, that's really nice idea . the only reason we leave that space empty is just sometimes people ask for extra bed, so we put it there. But we will think about something decorative and useful.
Once again thank you & see you soon !!

Great place! Rooms really have a nice touch. Staff is very helpful. I would certainly chose it again
TigaLima is a lovely place to stay. The rooms and grounds are thoughtfully designed and it's located at the end of a quiet backstreet. It's not in the main tourist area but for us this was a plus. There area was a more interesting mix of Indonesian's and foreigners and there was a selection of reasonably priced and delicious places to eat close by. Sela was incredibly kind, helpful and interesting. She also offered a range of interesting and reasonably priced private tours too.
The only possible downside is that it is a little difficult to get to the centre if you are not willing to hire a moped or take taxis as the transport system is not amazing. We hired a moped and had a great time exploring the city that way.
Dear Jennifer, First of all thank you for your stay in our Home stay & and thank you nice review & feedback ! Regarding the issue of the transport to the City Center : it can also be reached also by aircon bus 10 mins ( transjogja) 2 mins walking from TigaLima Homestay to the bus stop, it cost only 3.500 rupiahs. But mostly our guest is prefer to take taxi or motorbike rent, but the bus itself is comfortable & go directly to the city center. Thank you for staying with us, Jennifer ! It was nice to have you as a Guest! Greetings, sela
