The Cabins at Mount Totumas Cloud Forest ares at the top of a valley bordering La Amistad National Park. All cabins are equipped with 3 queen beds and 1 full bed to accommodate up to 7 guests with two baths, living room, deck and a complete kitchen with all modern appliances and internet service. We are off the grid but generate our own power with a micro hydro plant. The view from the decks is spectacular mountain scenery in cloud forest habitat. Up to 14 species of hummingbirds visit the feeders on the deck of the Cabin and you are greeted in the morning with the calls of the Howler Monkeys.
Mount Totumas Cloud Forest is a 400-acre site located in far western Chiriqui, Panama just a few miles from the Costa Rican border. The site borders La Amistad National Park, an immense protected wilderness of 1.5 million acres. Proximity to this national park contributes directly to the ecological integrity and rich biodiversity of Mount Totumas Cloud Forest.
There are no villages or towns on site, just pristine cloud forest habitat with over 30 miles of trails for you to explore. We offer transportation from Volcan which is 20km away for guests who do not have their own 4WD vehicle.
Guests have use of their own private kitchen to prepare meals or we offer meals when requested when you plan your stay.
Los Pozos Hot Springs, a natural hot springs great for soaking, are located 2 km from The Cabin.
It was the best accomodation we had in Panama. The house and the nature is wonderful. Everything was well organized (Description to come there, the marked trails, the kitchen stuff). We love it to see the hummingbirds at their feeder. It's a paradiise. The way to come is an adventure.
Our stay at the cloud forest was amazing. The location is absolutely breathtaking with a porch to watch the clouds roll over the mountains and the numerous hummingbirds that are right in-front of the house. The house was very comfortable and has all that is required including a well stocked kitchen, we got enough food at the supermarket which is in volcan town for a week. The use of internet was very much welcome after coming back from a 3 hour hike. There are several hiking paths you can take through lush vegitation. We saw the howler monkeys as well as some very unusual birds including the quetzal. The kids were absolutely in love with the two horses that we were able to use on our hikes.....Just Amazing, we will be back.
If you go one place in Panama...go to Mount Totumas. This place is truly amazing. Hummingbirds, monkeys, waterfalls, hot springs combined with highs temps in the 70s! In my many attempts to get "off the beaten path" I do not think I have ever been so far off while still being so comfortable. The cabin was very well equipped and easily accommodated our group of 5 while still leaving one big bed untouched. The hiking trails were very well marked and the sights were amazing. Jefferey and his crew have a vision for restoring and conserving this property that is truly a word-wide gem. I hope to return in 20 years and see that little has changed!
