  • We had a wonderful time in Honolulu at Suzie's place! There were 7 people staying at this property for a conference, and the location was perfect with the Convention Center right across the street. The apartment and the views were lovely, and Suzie was responsive in making sure everyone had a place to sleep. However, we were a little concerned about Suzie's situation in this building, she was very worried about secrecy and not letting the building know we were staying there. So be prepared for a great apartment, but having to be very subtle! There were also plumbing issues in one of the bathrooms that flooded one part of the apartment. Overall, good place to stay for the price, with some quirks! Thanks Suzie for letting us use your property!

    Response from Suzie:

Thank you for your review Lauren. I am very concerned with some of your negative and misleading comments.
1.You mentioned the space had some quirks. Could you clarify?
    2. I received a text message." Hi Suzie someone clogged the toilet. Is there a plunger" ? I called my plumber to rush over there. Then you telephoned me and said the person who clogged it fixed it. You put him on the line, saying here speak to the person who did it. I spoke to him. I asked him if it flooded and he said NO. He said he cleaned it up and it is working fine now and that he was sorry. I checked the toilet after you left, and it works fine. Was there a flood. You did not mention this to me. I did not see any water damage from this flood.
3.Lastly I think you misunderstood me when I was explaining the house rules. My space, and any and every host's space is not a hotel for short term rentals. You are my family and friends. My Guests. This is the basic concept and understanding of what an airbnb is. The Host and the Community has rules and we all have to be "subtle". Every host is delighted when Guests are discreet give consideration to neighbors.

  • Suzie's apartment was clean and comfortable. Close to shops & transport & an easy walk to the water.

    Response from Suzie:

Thank you Joanne. It was a pleasure hosting you. Aloha Suzie

  • Suzie and Charlene were really nice and easy going hosts who did everything to accommodate me. The condo was not the most modern but skyline views makes up for it. It was able to accommodate 8 of us without feeling claustrophobic. We took full advantage of the washer and dryer in the kitchen instead of taking it home to wash. The apartment is centrally located so everything is easy to reach. I was able to conveniently park my 15 passenger van close by for $15 a day, which was great. I just loved their cute dog! Overall I had a pleasant stay.

  • It was terrible place. Aircondition didn't work. You can guess Hawiian life without Aircondions. The Winodows makes strange sound. My 8month old boy can't sleep well. In the night the window makes hurricane sound. My boy crying , surprised by the sound. Door has problem too. If You want to open the door, you have to have a strong muscle. I'll never go this place again. Hawaii make me happy, but this house broke my vacation.

    Also You lying.

    you said
Please let workmen in when there is a flood happening so they can contain the water so there will be less damage. Don't ignore the host when they need information about the flood and damage from the flood and damage to the furniture. This guest had no respect for the home. ----

But, you have to think about it. If I don't let them come into the house, how can they set air blowing machine from living room to main room?.

You said lost remote control, but there was no remote control.

    Please Stop lying!.

  • Another great stay at Suzie's place

    May 2013
  • I stayed at Suzie's condo for five nights to attend a conference with some of my colleagues. On the positive side, the views are fantastic and this is a great place to stay if you need to get to the convention center- it is a short walk across the street. It was a very large space and people at the front desk were very helpful-they kept our keys for us and watched bags when we were checking out. The beds and couch were comfortable enough. It was easy enough to book with Suzie and she answered my questions very quickly before we arrived.

However, the condo doesn't really live up to its description of "swanky". Everything was pretty outdated and grimy. The windows were dirty so enjoying the view was a bit sad. We had to clean the showers and bathrooms because they were filthy. There was old leftover food in the fridge as well. The kitchen was functional but there was a lack of cleaning/laundry supplies to even wash dishes. Also the air conditioner wasn't working, which Suzie said was part of a "green initiative". In the listing it says the air conditioner is great but two out of the three were purposely disabled, and the one didn't cool the entire apartment. The pool and hot tub looked nice but we couldn't use them because they were being repaired- not Suzie's fault, but a general statement as to the condition of the building. This space is probably half condos and half "massage parlors". There is one right next door to the condo which we were told was legit, however it seems to be open at all times of the night. We were also a bit disappointed that there was not a separate private space for the futon, so we had one colleague sleeping on it basically in the middle of the living room. I don't know if she misrepresented the space to me when I asked about privacy or if it was just bad communication.

Overall this is a good place to stay for the price. A hotel in this area would have been twice as expensive and we liked the location. We appreciate that Suzie let us use her space!

  • Suzie is a great and helpful host. The apartment is big and perfect for a larger group, the location near to the convention centre, beaches, shopping and restaurants is great. Will be back.

  • The condo is pretty big and it is very close to the Convention Center, but "swanky" is a stretch of the imagination. The view is spectacular and I can imagine that The Century Center (building where condo is located) was at one time very nice, but it is fading splendor, at best.

The condo itself is adequate, but was only minimally equipped. For example, hand soap was only provided in one bathroom, there were no trash cans in either bathroom, and the kitchen did not have enough equipment for preparing meals (e.g. only 2 knives--1 bread knife and 1 very dull one that was broken). Also, the dish washer did not work. When we contacted Suzie about it, she said that her maintenance man told her it was working, but she asked us not to use it. We had 4 adults and 3 kids staying in the condo and while there were enough beds for everyone, we were short on bedding for 2 beds! Fortunately we had brought sleeping bags for our kids, so it was fine.

The other thing that potential renters may want to know is that the condo is next door to a "Thai massage place" that did a brisk business after midnight. In fact, the Century Center seems to be the heart of the red light district of Honolulu, and things really pick up in the whole area after dark, but not really the family-friendly sorts of activities many visitors may be seeking. The acoustics of the condo made it seem like a door was opening in our place every time someone went in and out of the "Thai massage place." It was especially bothersome in the bedroom next to the "massage parlor."

Suzie was very friendly and welcoming, but for a minimal investment, she could provide hand soap, bathroom trash cans, a kitchen knife and enough bedding. We attended a conference in Honolulu, so the location was perfect for us, but I wouldn't recommend staying there unless you will be going to the Hawaii Convention Center. For the cost of this condo, you could rent a much nicer place that is closer to the beach.
