About this listing
This is an eclectic home in a prime location within walking distance to campus, downtown, Normaltown, and historic districts. No luxuries, but full of character with laid-back hosts and easy access to everything a person might want to experience in Athens.
If you are neat freak/type A personality/super picky, this is not the place for you. This a lived-in, imperfect space best suited to chill folks who want a cool & convenient space to crash without a lot of fuss.
PLEASE READ HOUSE RULES FIRST.
Our home has a special place in Athens music history, lots of character and a large back yard with a fire pit. Within walking distance of everything a visitor to Athens might enjoy. We welcome all nationalities, ethnicities, genders, orientations, religions, ages, sizes, and cultures here. We embrace diversity and invite all kinds of people to feel comfortable and safe in our home.
NO PARTIES. Due to a recent bad experience with guests that resulted in damaged and stolen property, there are absolutely no gatherings allowed. If you are looking to book the entire house with a group, especially on a game day weekend, there is a special rate for that and we do require that the full names and DL #s of ALL guests be provided prior to booking. Mature and respectful people ONLY. If you want to get drunk and go nuts, go elsewhere. We welcome football fans and tailgaters who can hold their liquor and recognize that they are staying at someone's HOME.
Repeat: DO NOT BOOK THIS HOUSE TO PARTY ON GAME DAYS WITH ALL YOUR WILD AND CRAZY FRIENDS. The person who makes the reservation is responsible for all damages and any items that go missing. We will seek compensation and file charges with the police if necessary.
We keep to ourselves for the most part, sometimes you won't even see us. We give our guests as much privacy as possible and let you set the level of interaction. We have had people stay that we never saw at all, and others who shared drinks and dinner with us. It's up to you!
The historic homes and easy walking access to restaurants, coffee shops, nightlife and shopping makes our place perfect for travelers who would rather not do much driving. Our neighbors are fine with groups staying here, they are aware that we have airbnb guests, and there is off-street parking for up to 4 cars.
There is a bus stop around the corner from our house, and biking and walking to downtown, campus, and the stadium is a quick and easy.
Our house is full of interesting and quirky collectibles, art, books, and music that our guests are free to enjoy. We especially welcome artists, musicians, and all sorts of creative types to come enjoy and be inspired by the eclectic vibe of this space. Please be mindful that we care about our things and they must be treated with respect.
Guests may only access the main house in front, including porches and yard. If you are renting just one room, you do not have access to our main bedroom. The smaller house out back is off limits at all times. We do permit fires in the fire pit out back, provided you are responsible and keep noise to a reasonable level (our yard adjoins with neighbors' yards who can hear loud conversations).
Interaction with guests
We are usually here, but occasionally we will be out of town during your stay. If we are here, we will accommodate your preferences in regards to how much we interact. We are always available via phone. We also have good neighbors that keep an eye on our place when we are not here.
Our home borders a leafy historic district with many lovely renovated homes from the turn of the century, perfect for strolls. Within a one mile radius are restaurants, coffee shops, boutiques, thrift stores, a natural foods co-op, music venues, and bars. Perfect for someone traveling without a vehicle, convenient to everything!
There is a bus stop a half block around the corner. We are right off of a main artery into town that is bike and pedestrian-friendly. There is also ample parking if you bring your car with you.
Other things to note
This is an older home with few updates and no luxuries. It's prime advantages are it's location and distinctly old-school Athens vibe. We are friendly, chill hosts who can steer you to all the interesting, off-beat places to check out in town. If you are looking for something upscale or modern, please choose from one of the other many available places in Athens.
NO PARTIES. No gatherings of any kind are permitted here. If you plan on having visitors during your stay, you must inform us and we must have their name and DL #, no exceptions. There are no overnight guests allowed who are not part of the reservation. We have people watching the house and we will will not hesitate to cancel the reservation without a refund and/or call the police if we find out that there are more people here than are listed in the reservation.
REMEMBER: the person who makes the reservation is responsible for any damage or missing property, whether they personally did the damage or not, those are the terms you agree to when you book through airbnb. If you are bringing additional people with you, YOU are responsible for making sure those people are aware of our house rules and can abide by them.
Be respectful of our personal property--if you want to listen to our records or check out our books, treat them with care and return them to where you got them. We have a large collection of things, most of which we are happy to share with you, but these items are also important to us and should be treated accordingly. NOTE: Many of our items are one of a kind and irreplaceable. Whether or not you understand the value of something, please know that every item in this house is special to us. Sometimes it may be best to look but not touch. Do not move items from their original location--leave everything as you found it. ***We appreciate your cooperation and regret that prior experience requires us to state the obvious: you are a guest in someone's home, behave accordingly***
We appreciate good communication--a general idea of what you'll be doing while in town, what kind of hours you will keep and what you might need from us during your stay. Good communication makes everything work better!
We are laid back about most things, but we do have a few rules. There is no cigarette smoking in the house, but it is permitted on the porch. We provide basic toiletries, towels, and linens, but you may want to bring extra if staying with a large group. If we are sleeping, please be considerate and keep noise to minimum, we will do the same for you.
You are welcome to use the kitchen to store food and cook meals and you have access to our cookware and dishes, we just ask that you please clean up after yourself when you are done.
From Mar 1 - May 31, 2017 the minimum stay is 2 nights.
My name is Serra and I have lived in Athens, GA., for almost 20 years. My boyfriend and I are more night owls than early birds. My home is eclectic and historical and close to everything. I have a cat named Sami who loves people (so if you don't like cats, this may not be the best place to stay, because he will want to hang out with you). I love music, art, and collaboration. We have the option of both a private room and our living room futon, which folds out into a bed. Good communication is important to me and I especially appreciate an hour's notice as to when you will be arriving so I can be sure to be ready for you. If you are looking for an authentic Athens experience, this is it!
