Both Mario and Julieta were gear. They welcomed me showed me around quickly. The room and living quarters was clean and comfortable. The location is great - just a couple of blocks to restaurants and business etc.
The cutest studio! Loved all the mid-century furniture and the cool, vintage art and movie posters throughout the home. If you ever get home tired from a day of adventure (like we did), and want to relax at home, they even have a cool projector with a large collection of blockbuster and indie films for you to enjoy at your diaposal. Made for a nice, relaxing night in. Our host was super welcoming and helpful when we needed cafe recommendations and even offered to schedule a taxi pickup for us to get to the airport. They have two adorable dogs that we got to cuddle and pet while we missed our puppies at home :)
The neighborhood was fantastic, so many great cafes and cenadurias to visit all within easy, walking distance. We took a lot of late night strolls to different dinner spots too, and never felt unsafe while walking back home, which was great. The area is also super bike friendly, and our studio had two bikes for us to use already which was thoughtful! We would definitely recommend a bike ride down Chapultepec Ave, grab a bite and craft beer at La Nacional, and enjoy some people watching! There is also a great farmers market on Sundays along this street you can't miss!
Hopefully we can visit Guadalajara again soon and stay here again! Great experience :)
Great place to stay! Super central and quiet. Very friendly and helpful hosts. I definitely recommend staying here.
Host was great. She took care of our dog. He loved her. We could not stay here because she was booked. But she offered to care for our dog.
I wrote a previous review - and I came back for a second stay.
Being midway between Chapultapec and the Expiatorio (and a manageable walk to both), the location of this house is ideal for a car-less visitor to Guadalajara.
Good food is close by:
Just walk straight up the street where the property is. Half a block and to the right is a great place for breakfast and lunch. There's also a very clean fresh fruit vendor who is usually in front of the school just beyond the gas station. There is a fine-dining Japanese restaurant that's a great value. One more block and you're on La Libertad which has over a dozen restaurants. Across Libertad there are a couple of cafes and two bakeries. One more block and you're on Vallerta which lined some of the city's older and most beautiful mansions.
Downtown is just a short cab ride away. The neighborhood is quiet and peaceful and the house is artfully designed to be naturally shaded, so even on the hottest, sunniest of days, it's cool inside, yet full of natural sunlight.
If you stay in Guadalajara it's better to stay in the Julieta and Mario's listing (named for its art deco architecture), not downtown which is noisy and fume-ridden during the work week.
Julieta and Mario's place is in a quiet, low traffic, in a residential neighborhood. Abundant food choices are a short walk away including a very handy local fruit market. Downtown is just a short cab ride away. (Taxis are the best way to get around in GDL and they're cheap.)
If you're coming with a car, street parking looks easy.
The space is called a "private room" but it's really a studio apartment.
The space is very private and spotlessly clean. You enter the property through a common entrance, walk through the big common area one-room kitchen/sitting area and then through your own private courtyard into your apartment.
The bed is comfy and the bathroom is sensibly laid out with a big shower with good water pressure. The apartment is light-filled without having the sun beating down on you and it stays refreshingly cool during the heat of the day.
Julieta and Mario are very nice hosts. You can ask them for help and advice and they're very happy to share it. They have a young daughter, who is adorable and two intriguing small dogs.
As a guest, you don't see them much. When they're home, they spend most of their time in their apartment.
If I could give the place, the location and the experience 10 stars, I would. It's a great base for a traveler in Guadalajara.
