I have one large, furnished, private room in a two-bedroom apartment and shared bathroom. The apt building is in an excellent location in the heart of Long Island City/Queens near museums, boutiques, bars, restaurants, coffee shops. The apt is 2-3 blocks to the subway: E, M, 7, and G trains. 15-20 minutes from midtown Manhattan.
The room and apt:
-The apt is on the 1st floor of the building
-Equipt with gas heat, electric, wi-fi, cable (dvr, AC- cable in your room)
-Room has a queen bed, dresser, bedstand, wardrobe, tv and tv stand... there is room for a little more.
Who I am:
I am a young, 43 year woman working in Manhattan. I'm a College Administrator at Hunter College-CUNY. My students keep me young..most people think I'm in my early 30's (very up on pop culture ;-) I work M-F, 9-5, but I'm social so I may be out a few nights a week- usually at the gym or yoga. I'm pretty chill though- like to relax and watch tv (I heart sports too).
Dog-lovers only! :-) I have a gorgeous 9-yr old Olde English Bulldogge named Cody. He is the sweetest most well-behaved pup. He will immediately treat you like family but he is very obedient. My bdlg is pet friendly so if you are traveling with any animals we can chat about you bringing a pet too-my boy loves other animals (cats, dogs) they would preferably get get to meet first, but I realize this may not be possible. (There is a dogpark 1 1/2 blocks away). I also have two fabulous dogwalkers so you could use them as well, if needed.
Pre-war..lots of character, friendly neighbors, amazing super. Laundry is in the building behind us or a few blocks away. Free, quick laundry pick up and drop off service in the neighborhood. There is ample long-term parking on the streets surrounding the bdlg.
Sorry, no smoking in the apt. Linens, towels, hair dryer and iron provided.
BEFORE YOU BOOK, PLEASE NOTE:
Please make sure to check the MTA Subway Train Service Advisories before booking as there have been changes to the train schedules in my area lately. Search for MTA Subway Service Advisories on the web and choose the E, M, 7 and G train lines.
If you have any questions, please let me know.
Your own set of keys! Come and go as you please. :-)
Hi! I see these less as "rules" and more like courtesies, helpful hints and general information. :-)
My work schedule:
I work from 9-5 Monday-Friday and get up around 7-7:30am to get ready for work. I am in the shower M-F around 7:30am. I usually go to bed around midnight, but will be in my room. I am a pretty heavy sleeper so if you come in later than that, I will most likely not hear you, all I ask is that you keep any noise to a minimum.
Cody- the Olde English Bulldogge:
You should definitely be a dog-lover, if you want to stay with us. Cody is a lover! He will immediately see you as family. He is very well trained and will not get into your things (does not chew shoes, etc.), but it is best to keep your door closed when you are going to out of the apt as he has been know snuggle up in the bed of his new "family". I don't want him to go up on your bed when you and I are away, even though he just sleeps. :) Also if he tries to come into your room when you are home, if you don't want him there, just tell him to go and he will. If you are in the living room, he is allowed on furniture and will try to smooch you while you are sitting- again just tell him "off" and he will get down. He listens very well and he is seven, so he is a pretty mature guy. He is white and does shed, but I keep a de-shredder at the front door. And I constantly sweep and clean up the hair. Lastly, I do have two dogwalkers who comes in a few times a week, so please do not fret if someone comes into the apt to get Cody. I have known these dogwalkers for 7 years and if I trust them with my puppy, I trust them with everything. They are awesome people!
There is no cigarette smoking in the apt. I am on the first floor and you can smoke right outside of the building.
During your stay, I am not responsible for any lost or stolen goods or personal liability of any kind.
I and my wife stayed at Lori's place in February 2015 for one week. Lori and Cody (her dog) were very kind and welcoming to us. They made us feel like we are at home. The room is exactly the same as in the pictures. The house has a very good location. There are bunch of grocery stores, diners and bakeries nearby. It is very convenient to go city center, times square, midtown by subway (It is only couple of stops away).
It was really nice stay in Lori's home! She was the sweetest host ever. She was very welcoming and easy to talk to. She told me everything we would be curious about before we asked her. Me and my friend felt very comfy during the stay. Also Cody, her dog was so adorable! The neighborhood is nice and quiet. E train station is very close, about 5 min walking. Also very close to Manhattan— just one stop by subway. Oh, the heater was really nice as well. It was freezing cold when we got there, but we didn't feel cold at all. She even offered an extra heater!
I highly recommend her room!
Everything perfect, especially the location of the apartment. Lori's place is neat and clean. Cody is a great and silent companion.
The room is ample and comforle. You can access the kitchen and help yourself with beverages or prepare some meal.
Lori was very welcoming. She was very flexible about the time she met me to show me around and give me a key. She had a welcome booklet that contained all the things you could possibly need to know. Her apartment was lovely and comfortable. The bed was very comfortable. It was also a great location for me. I will definitely be back Maureen
Lori is an amazing host - we arrived very early on a Monday morning and she still had the previous guests in the room but she let us crash in the living room and leave our things there too for when we went exploring later. She was very helpful when we had questions and is easy to talk to.
The apartment itself is very close to Manhattan even though it is in LIC - it's only 5 stops from Times Square and the subway stop is about two blocks from Lori's place - 3 minute walk maybe. There's a cute diner at the corner at Court Square that has great pancakes, a supermarket very close buy, a new Dunkin Donuts and about a million other things within walking distance of her place too! Even a post office!
The room was a perfect size for two people, the bed very comfy, an abundance of towels provided as were some other little things (bandaids, shower gel, nail polish remover, hair dryer and more!). Bathroom is right next door - the amazing water pressure after a long freezing day outside was very much appreciated! The whole apartment was kept clean and we could use what we needed (kitchen for making breakfast, living room to chill...). There's a TV that we ended up not using at all, wireless internet and when it got very cold outside, Lori even provided a space heater in case the room got too cold (which it didn't - but it was still very much appreciated - sightseeing in -4°C the whole day makes one crave heat, let me tell you).
Cody is also lovely! Very quiet dog that rarely barks and loves all people. Very well behaved, so if you don't want him in your room, just tell him to go and he will leave immediately.
Lori's welcome packet is very thorough and includes many tips and tricks for NY and her neighbourhood - take out places and shopping tips and more!
The neighbourhood felt safe and was pretty quiet compared to the general level of noise in Manhattan. Lori's street itself is pretty quiet with not too much traffic.
This was the best experience we could have hoped for when booking with Lori - I would recommend staying with her to all my friends!
It was our first experience with Airbnb and it was great. I would definitely recommend Lori's apartment if you look for a place to stay in New York. The room was exactly as described. The neighbourhood is a nice area to stay. There are many nice restaurants and cafes around - we recommend a place called TukTuk. Lori is very nice and helpful person :)
