Tuk Tuk or Ferry Boat for those without a rental car
Sharr is a fantastic host. We arrived no problem and Sharr greeted us and answered all of our questions. The cabin is perfect - quiet, and very comfortable. If you want a nice place to stay outside the busyness of Tamarindo, go here! Sharr organized surf lessons with Doug, who was great. 2 times per week a truck drives by with fresh and beautiful fruits and vege's, which was amazing. The property is a 5 min walk to the beach with the best sunset ever. We would recommend anyone to stay here. Thanks Sharr! Hope to see you again soon.

We had a great time at Casa Camaleon! Indoors and out, attention to detail is evident. Sharr is a welcoming and attentive host who has created a very peaceful atmosphere. Great experience.
We had a great four nights at Casa Camaleon, and in Playa Grande in general. Finding the apartments was a little tricky, even with Sharr's detailed instructions. It's a small community, so asking for directions wasn't a problem. I'd definitely recommend arriving during the day time though. Sharr wasn't there when we arrived, but her daughter showed us to our room.
Casa Camaleon is about a 5 min walk from the beach, the apartments have conveniences like outdoor shower, outdoor sink and laundry line for cleaning up after swimming or surfing. Air conditioning in the apartment was a huge plus. There's a small grocery store about 10 min away-- has all the basic foods, beverages, pharmacy, etc. Also, a few restaurants within walking distance.
One minor complaint is that the room was a little tight for two people with full sized suitcases. There's a large bed (> king) in the room that takes up most of the space. But really, when the beach is so close, you're not in the room that much.
Sharr helped to arrange surf lessons through Frijoles Locos (very good for beginners) and a turtle tour (not entirely recommended-- first guide left without us, but we found another guide...turtles were incredible, but the whole area was overrun with tourist groups...none of this was Sharr's fault, of course).
Overall, it was a great stay, and in hindsight, we should have extended our stay another two days for the rest of our time in Costa Rica.
I had a really nice experience staying in Playa Grande at Casa Camaleon. For the price, the rooms are very nice. Nicer than what I was expecting actually. Nice shower, big fridge, kettles, stove, etc. for cooking and a decor. Beach is a short walk away. If you want to get around, I recommend renting a bicycle. Riding on the beach at low tide was fun :-) I also liked the slow paced ambience of this area as opposed to say Tamarindo. Sharr was very helpful for getting things organized (ferry trip, surf board rental, surf teacher, etc.) for me. If I'm coming to this area again, I'm sure I'll be coming back to Casa Camaleon.
Excellent experience! Clean, secure, friendly, very highly recommended. Very helpful with travel logistics and surfing advice. Great board rentals.
We had a great time in the Casa Camaleon - I absolutely recommend staying there if you want a quiet place near to the beach! I never met Sharr in person but Denis who managed the place while we have been there was extremely nice and very communicative and helpful. And Sharr was always available by mail and helped us a lot with her tips and advice. The place itself is beautiful - located a 5min walk from the beach, quiet and well-equipped. A fantastic place to stay - you might want to have a car though because the last ferry from Tamarindo leaves at 4pm and taxis are fairly expensive. My other advice would be to rent the surfboards in one of the surf shops in Playa grande or Tamarindo. While they had some boards available and Denis gave us great advice in picking a good one, they're half the price in the surrounding Surfshops who also have a greater choice (I recommend Matos, they're awesome). Thanks Denis & Sharr for the nice stay - we enjoyed it lots!
Thank-you for your lovely review Katha :)
For those wanting to travel over Tamarindo at night we recommend taking the U$1- boat over at sunset, eating dinner and then dancing etc. and then taxi back which would be U$25-. This makes it affordable for that "night on the town" here and there when you feel you need it. We also have a driver we have personally been using for many years as well as our guests. He's really great. But most people usually don't find the need to visit Tamarindo much. We have everything you need right here with several bars and restaurants as well as a small supermarket.
Regarding board rentals we charge the same as all the other surf shops in Playa Grande. That said we have very good quality boards, more professional boards, and they are well kept. For the convenience of having us place your board right on your door step when you want to go surfing is something everyone loves.
Hope to have you guys visit again soon...pura vida
Was an amazing experience staying at casa camaleon, great vibes and gorgeous views. Not far from Tamarindo but chilled, this cabin has just what we needed. Thanks a lot for sharing that paradise!

If I can surf every day its a day well spent. The ocean is a place that lets you leave feeling new. I cannot live without it.
