Casita Redonda (little round house), our remote, custom built getaway in the mountains of SW Puerto Rico is waiting for guests who love nature and adventure! Two bedrooms, kitchen, full bath w/shower, covered patio, sundeck, fire ring/barbecue, and outdoor shower. Borders the Maricao Forest. Your only neighbors are coquis and tropical birds--you may even glimpse a rare Puerto Rican parrot! Your stay helps support the nonprofit My Renewed Hope - see more info below.

The space
Casita Redonda is the perfect destination to disconnect from the stresses of daily life, reconnect with nature, enjoy a secluded couples' retreat, or spend time with family. Our unique 12 sided dodecagon is located in the mountains of southwest Puerto Rico on the quiet northern edge of the Maricao Forest Reserve. Your adventure begins when you park at the top of the hill and start your hike down the old municipal road (about 1000 feet from the parking area at the top of the road to the gate where the property begins). We suggest bringing just what is needed to the cabin in backpacks to make the hike back up much easier.

The remote location allows for complete privacy, yet in less than an hour's drive you can be on some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Let the coquis (a variety of frogs only found in Puerto Rico) sing you to sleep under the stars!

Our place is a fully equipped two bedroom house with all the comforts of home in the middle of the bosque. Perfect for couples, but also works well for friends or a small family.

The Maricao Forest Reserve is a world class birding destination. This part of Puerto Rico is the "quiet side" of the island, but has many nearby beaches and attractions. The rare Puerto Rican parrot may be spotted during your stay - the US Fish and Wildlife Service is working to re-establish a population of these endangered birds in our area.

House includes these features:

*Unique 12-sided design
*530 square feet, fully furnished
*Two bedrooms, one with queen size bed and one with full size futon
*Futon couch in living room can also convert to full size bed
*Kitchen appliances include small refrigerator, electric hot plate, microwave,
toaster oven, two slice toaster, and coffee maker.
*Stone fire ring/barbecue
*Indoor and outdoor showers
*Covered patio
*An absolute guarantee of NO SNOW!

There is excellent cell phone reception and 4G service, but no interruptions from TV or internet. Internet reception is available on the Maricao town square, and at many restaurants around the island.

We have a caretaker when we are not in P.R., and we are just a phone call away if you need anything at all.

**When you stay with us you are helping to support the nonprofit My Renewed Hope, which assists those living with or recovering from cancer to find renewed hope to move forward in their lives. Full information on the project will be provided upon request.**

Guest access
You will have access to the entire house and all of the facilities, including a sundeck off the main bedroom and a covered patio.

Other things to note
The house is on what used to be a municipal road. No one has lived on the road for many years, so the municipality has not maintained it. The road is kept mowed by our caretaker and looks like a wide grassy path. To reach the house you MUST park your car at the top and walk in. (We suggest using a backpack to bring just what you need down the hill. This makes coming back up much easier!). The walk in is downhill, about 1000 feet, and will take about 5 minutes. This location is what makes the experience truly special...the house is completely secluded, private, and peaceful.

My work: Pine River Woodcraft/Silver Beach Sea Glass
Most useless skill: I'm an expert speller
My husband and I enjoy peaceful, off-the-beaten-path places. We like to do most everything for ourselves, and we put ourselves into everything we do. When you stay with us, you aren't just renting a room, you're sharing our dream come true. We are both artisans. Dennis makes anything and everything out of wood, from small boxes to entire homes. His most beautiful creations are hardwood music stands, which you could almost call sculptures. I make jewelry from sea glass which I find on beaches on Puerto Rico. I am also a singer/songwriter/guitar player (contemporary folk is my favorite!). We live in the beautiful, hilly Driftless Region of southwestern Wisconsin (the only part of the Midwest U.S. untouched by the last glaciers), and have a 2 bedroom cabin in the mountains of Puerto Rico, in the midst of coffee country. We designed and built of our three cabins, and they are all "polyurts", a term Dennis coined for these circular structures, so staying with us is really an experience that is "outside the box"! We love to travel to new places, but also return to Puerto Rico several times each year. We have hosted 18 exchange students from all over the world, have traveled to Germany, Switzerland, Italy, France, Canada, and the Caribbean, love biking, hiking, and are certified SCUBA divers. We're animal lovers, too (especially big silly yellow labs and our Jack Russell Terrier mix who adopted us in Puerto Rico!). I speak English as well as some French and some Spanish, with sprinkles of German thrown in for good measure! I love to cook, so if you stay with us in Wisconsin you might just get a great meal as an added bonus! Our hosting style is as involved or as "hands off" as you like--you choose! We hope you will enjoy your stay with us. We look forward to meeting you!
