About This Listing
This is a 1972 Gibson Houseboat. The boat has been turned into floating home and it has a Zen New York loft feel. It is located in a marina in Sausalito, California with a view of Mt Tam. My place offers a unique get-a-way opportunity for those seeking an experience. If you ever wanted to see what it feels like to live on a houseboat, as I did, then my place is the place for you.
Walking distance to the ferry terminal, many wonderful restaurants to choose from for dining, a movie theater, salsa dancing along with great places to relax and listen to live music. Marin is one of the best areas for biking and hiking in Northern California.
The marina is a quant place with many friendly and helpful people.
I have my favorite places to eat: Le Garage is walking distance and serves great French food, Sushi RAN is another favorite of mine, for the traditional Sausalito eating experience The Spinnaker is lovely. In Sausalito, Caledonia Street, has been named Main Street for the locals. The street is loaded with places to eat, Yoga studios, retail shopping, two grocery stores and a movie theater. Near by are bike, paddle board and kayak rental facilities.
There are some things that come with staying on a boat that are a little different than a regular house. There are two very nice full bathrooms a very short distance from my slip located in the marina. There is a full bathroom on the boat. The bathroom has specific instructions...please inquire.
Wireless Internet access code located on the router.
$60.00 cleaning fee.
$100 charge for unreturned marina bathroom key.
$25.00 charge for unreturned "L" parking permit.
We had a wonderful time on Melissa's houseboat! The interior was more spacious than we thought it would be, and the location was absolutely stunning, with lots of restaurants and shops nearby.
Since the weather was great, we were able to sit outside to read and work on most of the days. The water and sky looked so perfect that I even remarked at one point that I felt like I was sitting in a coastal painting.
Melissa is kind and responsive through email--a wonderful AirBNB host. I highly recommend her houseboat if you're looking for a unique experience in a beautiful neighborhood.
Loved it! Melissa was prompt and courteous. She met me at the dock the first day and showed me the ropes. Living on a boat has it's peculiarities (marine head - therefore only 4 stars). The boat is neat, clean, well stocked and totally functional. The location is fabulous - views to die for and walk to everything! I stayed aboard a month. The time flew by and I was sad to leave. I would stay here again. That's the best recommendation I can make.
We had an absolute blast on Melissa's 'floating flat.' It was a great way to escape the city for a quick trip without traveling too far. Super comfortable with everything you might need included! You'll probably spend most your time on the back patio enjoying the great weather and watching the active sea creatures. The houseboat community was a little raucous this weekend (it was labor day weekend), but besides for that, no complaints!
I would recommend it to anyone!
Truly a unique experience for a land rat. Make sure to spend some time on the front deck in the afternoon. Vivid sealife. The light. The colors.
Don't pass up this gem, it will truly be an experience of a lifetime! My partner and I spent 2.5 months on Melissa's wonderful vessel, and we had an absolutely magical time! The boat itself is fantastic: beautifully decorated, very clean and comfortable, and the location cannot be beat! You'll never forget sitting on deck and sipping a cocktail as you watch the sun set over Mt. Tam with seals and otters splashing just feet away. And Melissa is an incredible, gracious hostess; she helped make sure that the boat could accommodate two people and our belongings for the entire summer. Don't worry about sharing the space with another person. The boat feels very airy because of all the windows, and the split level makes it easy to have personal space and separation. And the two deck areas give you even more space to spread out.
Pros: wonderfully kind hostess, beautiful and unique accommodations, unbeatable scenery, fabulous neighbors and community, perfect location, permanent right to brag that you got to live on a boat in Sausalito :)
Cons: None! Take the plunge!
This houseboat is really an exceptional experience. For a long weekend or for a fortnight around the Bay area, like for me. (But as couple you must be used to cohabitate on small space.) The houseboat is perfectly located, not in the rather lonesome real harbor zone, not in the kitsch and regularly overcrowded "Sausalito", right between. Good food, shops, cinema, etc. just nearby. The neighbours are friendly, lent me a bike. Melissa is a nice and trustful host. No hassle at checking in or out. When I called her once at midnight that the power broke down (due to really bad luck with a cable, the boat is otherwise perfect), she immediately offered me the cost for a night in a near motel and next morning the cable was replaced.
