About this listing
Bedroom w/ 1 double & 1 single bed, desk, fan, mini fridge and wooden shutters (and door of course!)
++This place is paradise, but not for everyone, so please read the description carefully, in order to make sure that you will enjoy our home. Thank you!++
Charming, rustic wooden room with real jungle feel in typical Caribbean residency of Costa Rican - German couple (34 & 35). We are located between Playa Chiquita and Punta Uva, in a quiet and beautiful jungle setting just 200 mts. from one of the most beautiful beaches in the area and in walking distance to various local and international restaurants. The next supermarket is about 1 km from the house. Puerto Viejo and Manzanillo are an easy bike ride away (about 6KM each). Bikes can be rented from our neighbours for 6$ per day.
The room is independently located on the ground floor, with two huge (glass-less!) windows (with wooden shutters that can be closed at any time) with unobstructed views of the jungle, one double and one single bed with semi-orthopedic mattresses, mini-fridge for drinks, a desk, 2 chairs and a fan and is the perfect homebase for adventurers, nature lovers, and backpackers, who want to explore this beautiful strip of paradise. In front of the room there is plenty of room to hang out with hammocks and a punching bag for some excercise.
We live on the upper floor of the house and you are invited to share our kitchen and our spacious balcony with us all throughout the day. Shared bathroom with stunning jungle views and hot water shower on lower level! Laundry service (6 USD per load only washing, 9 USD per load washing and drying), Puerto Viejo pickup (8 USD).
Our guests shouldn't have any problems with dogs (3) or cats (1)!
We are not an all-inclusive commercial Bed & Breakfast, just residents who'd like to share their home with friendly travellers. We want you to feel comfortable and at ease in our place but do not offer room service or other luxuries. Breakfast is not included in the price. We are looking for sympathetic, independent people, who would like to look behind the scenes of commercial tourism and learn a little more about the region they are visiting.
We have been living in the area for the last 7 years and are working in tourism, so we can also help you setting up your tours and transportation in the Caribbean and the rest of Costa Rica, just ask us!
Everybody who identifies with above description is welcome at our jungle home, unfortunately the house is not wheel-chair-accessible right now though, sorry!
We have wifi, kitchen, drinking water for bottle refill and coffee in the mornings available to our guests.
We are located right between Playa Chiquita and Punta Uva just 700 mts. from the small community of Playa Chiquita (with supermarket, some restaurants and a bar) and 200 mts to one of the most beautiful beaches of the area (Punta Uva). Puerto Viejo is about 7 km away and can be reached with an easy 30-minute bike ride or by public bus, that runs every two hours and stops just 100 mts. from the house. The nature reserve Gandoca-Manzanillo is about 6 km away and the popular Jaguar Rescue Center just 2 km.
There is public buses regularly passing by about 100 meters from the house to go to Manzanillo, Puerto Viejo or Cahuita. Bikes are definitely the best means of transportation and a perfect way to explore all the little gems of the area. For nights out in Puerto Viejo you can also take a taxi back from town. There is a parking spot on the premises (about 50 meters from the house)
Bring flashlights for walking the trail to the house at night!
Anja is a wonderful host and she lives in the most peculiar of places (at least for someone coming from London!)! She made our last days in Costa Rica remarkable, both thanks to her amazing home, but also because of how welcoming she and her boyfriend were.
Thank you and hope to see you again soon!
Anja was very helpful and welcomed two strangers from Canada into her home we had the experience of a lifetime we saw monkeys playing in the tree s one morning saw a lot of beautiful birds and butterflies all out the window ... The beach is just across the street and perfect to swim in ... You can catch the bus to puerto viejo we took tour s and she arranged tours loved being in the wild ( for me it was wild) but still safe ... Thanks for sharing it with us .., Patti and Cara
Anja and Mau were amazing hosts. We had a great time staying at their place in the middle of the jungle. Definitely recommend it!
We stayed for 5 nights in August 2015.
Anja and Mau are the perfect hosts! We felt very welcome for the duration of our stay. Happy to leave you to do your own thing or chat and interact. Very helpful with bookings and suggestions for activities and very quick to respond via email.
Habibi, Lu and Polly are absolutely fantastic too! Such great dogs and we loved spending time with them at the beach where they would play with us and then watch our towels and bags while we swam in the sea :)
The house is really nice. The kitchen has everything you need and the shower is amazing! It is a wet and humid place at this time of the year, but it didn't hinder the trip and there is a fan in the room that keeps you cool. There is also a mosquito net however we found there were surprisingly few bugs despite being in the middle of the forest! We saw monkeys every day and plenty of other wildlife, it was amazing being so close to nature.
Thank you again to Anja and Mau, we loved spending time with you and your dogs in your lovely home!
We really enjoyed our time there and the place is really amazing and exotic. Anja was very welcoming, friendly and helpful . You can have a shower while watching wild life of jungle like flowers birds or guinea pigs. Highly recommended!!!
Our host Anja made us feel at home right from the start. We arrived a bit later then we thought we would arrive at because the directions werent so clear, in all fareness we were driving at night on roads new to us. The house is right in the jungle with monkeys outside the window. Anja and Mau were inviting and gave lots of tips of things to see, directions of were to find local places and suggestions. If it does rain and it will its definetely gonna be wet. They have three dogs that are quite chill and sweet but they are jungle dogs and they do stink so that might not be for you. The beach is a few meters outside the door, a short walk and you are there. At night you hear many sounds from bugs and animals, it rained quite a bit at night and its quite a beautiful experience. We were able to use the kitchen upstairs quite comfortably and found our way very easy so that was a plus. in the morning Anja would make coffee and you could sit on the balcony staring out into the jungle. We rented a car and had our own parking spot near the entrance, the down side its very muddy to walk from and back. We had a great time staying here, Anja has great energy and we had a good talking, this place would always be an option for me to come back to upon returning.
thanks a lot for your nice review, we are very happy you and Eric enjoyed your stay! I am sorry about stinky dogs and the slightly moldy smell of the room, unfortunately you stayed with us during our rainy season (which was unusually rainy this year) and there is only so much we can do with the open-air setup of the house. We will try to shower the dogs more frequently in the future, but usually do not do so, when its raining so much as they just dont dry and then smell worse! Thanks for your understanding. All the best, Anja
We had such a good time at Anja's place! She and Mao were friendly and very helpful the whole time that we stayed. They also gave us great advices about nice spots in Puerto Viejo and around for the rest of our trip. The beach is like 2 mins walk from the cabana, and we went there for a swim many times, followed by Anja's three nice dogs. As young backpackers, we were happy to share the common spaces with people from the place and talk about la pura vida en costa rica! The only is that make sure you bring clothes that dry easily with you, cause the cabana is in the jungle so, its nearly impossible for your clothes to dry out there. Anyway, I would go again for sure and recommend it to my friends! Peace from Québec! :)
