Charming, rustic wood room with real jungle feel in typical Caribbean residency of Costa Rican - German couple (32 & 33). We are located between Playa Chiquita and Punta Uva, just 200 mts. away from one of the most beautiful beaches in the area and in walking distance to various local and international restaurants. The next supermarket is about 1 km away from the house. Puerto Viejo and Manzanillo are an easy bike ride away. Bikes can be rented from our neighbours for 6$ per day.
The room is independently located on the ground floor, relatively small but cozy with two huge (glass-less!) windows with unobstructed view of the jungle, one double and one single bed, mini-fridge for drinks, a desk, 2 chairs and a fan and is the perfect homebase for adventurers, nature lovers, and backpackers, who want to explore this beautiful strip of paradise. In front of the room there is plenty of room to hang out with hammocks and benches as well as a punching bag and a workout bench for some excercise.
We live on the upper floor of the house and you are invited to share our kitchen and our spacious balcony all throughout the day. Shared bathroom with stunning jungle views and refreshing cold water on lower level! Laundry service (6 dollars per load), Puerto Viejo pickup (6 dollars).
Our guests shouldn't have any problems with dogs (3) or cats (1)!
We are no all-inclusive commercial Bed & Breakfast, just residents who'd like to share their home with friendly travellers. We want you to feel comfortable in our place but do not offer room service or other luxuries. Breakfast is not included in the price. We are looking for sympathetic, independent people, who would like to look behind the scenes of commercial tourism and learn a little more about the region they are visiting.
We have been living in the area for the last 6 years and are working in tourism, so we can also help you setting up your tours and transportation in the Caribbean and the rest of Costa Rica, just ask us!
This place was amazing! I'm not sure what I can say that hasn't been already said in other reviews. My friends and I stayed with Anja for 2 nights and it was my favorite place during our entire trip. The cabin is close to the beach and an easy bike ride into town. The room itself is big enough for 3 people, and plenty of room to lounge on the porch.
Anja and her husband were extremely welcoming and helpful. They gave us great suggestions on where to eat and helped us rent bikes while we were there. Anja also set up our rafting trip and our shuttle back to San Jose. Their dogs are awesome and hung out with us on the porch at night. Anja even arranged to get a cake for one of my friend's birthday the first night we were there!!
We really can't say enough good things about Anja, Mau and their home in the jungle. Flat out it was an awesome experience and they are great people who we are now happy to call friends :-) The location is amazing, the room is very spacious and clean and the arrangements of the shared bathroom and kitchen were very easy and accommodating. We stayed here for over 2 wks and we never once had an issue that would keep us from returning or recommending others to stay. Anja and Mau are great people, very easy going, always willing to help, genuinely nice, friendly and honest. The house is situated perfectly in the jungle and your close enough to everything but far enough away to feel removed from the "hustle and bustle" of the tourism in the area. Just a very short walk (like 3-4 minutes) from the beautiful beaches of Punta Uva and a nice 20-25 minute bike ride from Puerto Viejo or Manzanillo. Anja was great with pre-trip communication answering our questions, giving advice and helping us set up transportation from San Jose to PV. She also booked an amazing rafting trip (anyone going to Costa Rica should take the rafting trip, highly recommended) for us at the end of our stay and although this is how many help to make a living for themselves, she never pressured us to book trips through her or got upset that we didn't, she simply offered to help if we wanted to do any excursions which was great! Both Anja and Mau made us feel right at home and comfortable for our entire stay and we greatly appreciated that ;) They were both very informative and usually available and willing to answer any questions. Mau took us on a "guided" hike through the property that we both enjoyed tremendously and if you stay here maybe you will get to see the property like we did. My wife and I would highly recommend staying here and we will most definitely be back and looking forward to staying with Anja and Mau again. The value exceeded the price and the location was pretty much unbeatable. I don't want to forget their 3 super cool dogs who always made us feel safe at night and were always there to great us when we came and went. The dogs even escorted us to the beach quite a few times ;) We will miss Anja, Mau and the dogs considerably. Thanks guys for a great stay!
Anja's place was amazing. Beautiful and perfectly situated. I recommend it whole-heartedly! Anja is fantastic and very generously shares her kitchen and balcony upstairs. Definitely the place to go if you're in the Puerto Viejo vicinity.
Anja was so sweet and helpful before and during our stay. I always felt like she was available to talk to and ask questions while we were staying there. Her place is rustic and beautiful. It was very clean and ready for us when we arrived. The jungle is right outside the windows, which have wood shutters that can be closed. We brought a flashlight which wound up being super helpful getting to Anjas place at night. Her husband and dogs were just as sweet as Anja, and I would happily stay with her again! It was a unique experience to live like a true Tico.
We couldn't have enjoyed our stay with Anja and Mao. The place was incredible! We awoke to monkeys in the trees outside our window, the place was clean and beautiful, and our hosts went above and beyond to make sure we were happy. The were terrific hosts, always eager to help and always making us feel welcome. We can't recommend this place highly enough. It was fantastic!
We really enjoyed our stay with Anja and Mao. When we arrived they unfortunately couldn't be there for a few days due to someone in their families health being poor. However this was no problem at all. We had the place to ourselves for the first few days. The place is kept nice and clean. There is a charismatic cleaning lady who comes once a week. Saw lots of wildlife including monkeys as we sat and had breakfast. Anja and Mao have 3 dogs. We really loved them. They became our friends too. Quite often showing us the way to things. I can't fault my stay there. The beach is a 5 minute walk away. There are bikes to hire for $5 a day. Which i'd recommend using if you would like to see the other towns nearby.
This place is amazing. We arrived relatively late at night, so we were especially surprised in the morning to wake up in the middle of the jungle to howler monkeys and a gang of white faced monkeys. The tree house is just a short stroll (500km or so) from the beach and about 6km from Puerto Viejo. This is an experience unlike any other. Yes, you will run into a fair share of jungle bugs (they have nets), but we would stay here again in a heart beat.
Anja was so accommodating to our crazy schedule and they were great with giving us tips and information about Punta Uva and Puerto Viejo. I loved the outdoor/indoor shower and am currently working on setting up a hammock in my small room ;) We fell in love with this area and this home and would recommend it to anyone.
Anja and Mau hardly need another glowing review.. but I will give them one anyway! We had a lovely time staying in their beautiful wooden house (pictures in no way do it justice) where you feel totally surrounded by the jungle. They're such an easy going couple which made us feel really chilled out sharing their kitchen and living space. (email hidden) outside of Peurto Viejo means you can easily get into town whilst benefitting from the much quieter beach that is ten minutes walk away. Thanks guys!
Great host, great place!! Went with my 6 year old and he had a great time (except he thought the monkeys were going to kidnap him). EXTREMELY close to the beach (5 minute walk max).
The pictures and description are 100% accurate.
If you are trying to have the time of your life then stay here. It's obviously not your all amenity bed and breakfast, but for the experience and the memories you will make, the tree house is incredible. Anja and Mao are some of the best host we have run into. Super friendly and will answer and help you out with any questions or problems (none) you have.
The room is beautiful and when you add the patio, hammocks, and jungle bathroom, it is the perfect stay. Prepare to wake up very early to the sound of the howling monkeys, only to start your day bright and early. Located right next to a bike shop for easy transportation. Five minute walk to the nicest beach in the area. I wish we could have stayed longer. Thank you so much for sharing this great experience with us. Tell Polly and the other two that we miss them!
