About This Listing
++This place is paradise, but not for everyone, so please read the description carefully, in order to make sure that you will enjoy our home. Thank you!++
Charming, rustic wooden room with real jungle feel in typical Caribbean residency of Costa Rican - German couple (32 & 33). We are located between Playa Chiquita and Punta Uva, in a quiet and beautiful jungle setting just 200 mts. from one of the most beautiful beaches in the area and in walking distance to various local and international restaurants. The next supermarket is about 1 km from the house. Puerto Viejo and Manzanillo are an easy bike ride away (about 6KM each). Bikes can be rented from our neighbours for 6$ per day.
The room is independently located on the ground floor, with two huge (glass-less!) windows (with wooden shutters that can be closed at any time) with unobstructed views of the jungle, one double and one single bed with semi-orthopedic mattresses, mini-fridge for drinks, a desk, 2 chairs and a fan and is the perfect homebase for adventurers, nature lovers, and backpackers, who want to explore this beautiful strip of paradise. In front of the room there is plenty of room to hang out with hammocks and benches as well as a punching bag and a workout bench for some excercise.
We live on the upper floor of the house and you are invited to share our kitchen and our spacious balcony with us all throughout the day. Shared bathroom with stunning jungle views and refreshing cold water on lower level! Laundry service (5 dollars per load), Puerto Viejo pickup (8 dollars).
Our guests shouldn't have any problems with dogs (3) or cats (1)!
We are not an all-inclusive commercial Bed & Breakfast, just residents who'd like to share their home with friendly travellers. We want you to feel comfortable in our place but do not offer room service or other luxuries. Breakfast is not included in the price. We are looking for sympathetic, independent people, who would like to look behind the scenes of commercial tourism and learn a little more about the region they are visiting.
We have been living in the area for the last 7 years and are working in tourism, so we can also help you setting up your tours and transportation in the Caribbean and the rest of Costa Rica, just ask us!
We have wifi, kitchen, drinking water for bottle refill and coffee in the mornings available to our guests.
There is public buses regularly passing by about 100 meters from the house to go to Manzanillo, Puerto Viejo or Cahuita. Bikes are definitely the best means of transportation and a perfect way to explore all the little gems of the area. For nights out in Puerto Viejo you can also take a taxi back from town. There is a parking spot on the premises (about 50 meters from the house)
Bring flashlights for walking the trail to the house at night!
The best place to be!! ;-)
Anja lives in a dream home: it is simple though amazingly charming. It was a great experience to stay in the jungle and to have some of the most beautiful beaches a few meters away. We had the best dreams ever sleeping in our little wood room full of bizarre animal sounds. Waking up and seeing monkeys from the window was kind of cool. (!) We definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants to enjoy the best of the costarican east cost.
Anja was extremely helpful in orienting us and giving us advice about the area. Both Anja and Mau are extremely friendly: Anja kept her appointment to pick us up from the public bus we took to the area despite the fact that it was almost 30 minutes late. Mau helped me find the hat I thought I'd lost somewhere. The cabin is indeed quite cute and the beaches (~3 minutes walk away!) are gorgeous.
I think there are two downsides about the location that may be of interest to travelers:
1. If you are a light sleeper, the animals may wake you up at night, particularly the rooster(s).
2. It is a little difficult to get around at night if you do not have a car. You can definitely rent bikes (and should!), however the roads are not well lit making it a little dangerous for the less confident.
Overall a really great stay, we wish we had had more time!
We stayed with Anja and Mauricio for a week and loved our stay in the middle of the jungle. It is a rustic wooden house nestled in the lush vegetation which attracts lovely birds and monkeys. Our hosts made us feel very welcomed and offered useful information whenever we needed it. It was wonderful to be so close to Nature and if you love it and lots of animals around, this is the place for you. There are 3 big dogs who sleep at your doorstep and are very much in charge of keeping strangers away... They don't smell so good when wet and might wake you up with their barking but they are friendly! We were driving a big mini-van and it was a bit difficult to park it in the area at times due to the muddy conditions. The kitchen is very well equipped and there's even a small fridge in the room but in the morning, we had to muster courage to take a shower as the water is quite cold. Anja and Mauricio were very kind and always had coffee for us in the morning:)
