I had an excellent time in this beautiful and affordable apartment. It was very close to the train stations and some fantastic restaurants, as well as a gem of a place called Organic Avenue that has the most amazing coconut milk yogurt. I immediately felt at home and it was so great, and affordable, to have a kitchen. Doug was very responsive and kind. I couldn't have asked for a better location: out of the way of the crowds of downtown, but a 15 min trip to anywhere I wanted to go, including the Metropolitan Opera. My only complaint would be that I only had one roll of toilet paper! Otherwise, I had a fantastic time and was sorry to leave my home away from home in NY.
We had a lovely time at this beautiful studio situated just by Central Park in a lovely neighbourhood. Some really nice restaurants just around the corner and just a block from the subway. On New Year's Eve we took a nice stroll from 7the Ave home, which was only a 25 minute walk. Would love to be back and warmly recommend this place to other visitors who want a convenient and tidy spot of their own while visiting this fantastic city. Jessica and Doug were great hosts. Quickly replying to any inquiry we might have and willingly supplying us with suggestions of places to visit while staying at their place.
Great space! Great location! Great neighborhood! Jessica & Doug are awesome and helpful! ... another part of our heart is left behind in NYC!!
Cosy single bed apartment close to Central Park allowing us to explore NY for our first time. Doug and Jessica made big efforts to make us feel welcome - leaving us maps, their own reviews & recommendations for local restaurants&bars. Apartment was ideal for a couple to explore from, close to 86st subway stop which has a couple of lines to downtown. Was good to have free wifi&apartment was kept v clean. We had 1 issue with a blocked toilet but building&plumbing is probably a little old but Doug had it fixed within a couple of hours texting us when the plumber had left - didn't affect us as we were out touring all day. Area felt v safe at all times which was good for us as foreign tourists. Much better option than the highly priced hotels in Manhattan.
Thanks Jess and Doug for a lovely New York stay. As first-timers to the city, the location is ridiculously good - especially if Central Park is something you're keen to see (literally at the end of the street)! Access to the Subway was also too easy - right around the corner. The restaurants, cafes and bars on Columbus Ave are simply stunning too, we had so much fun and probably spent too much time there! The apartment itself is tiny, but comfortable, clean and homely. If you're a light sleeper, prepare for it to be a little noisy - both the heater (we stayed in autumn) and being on the ground floor/street front. But hey, isn't that what NY is all about?! We loved it.
Key to this apartment is LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION.
The building is close to major subway lines and walking distance to many sites. You are a block from the entrance to Central Park and a short distance to many museums (famous and not so famous but top notch), to the theater district, to the 9-11 memorial, to the empire state building, etc etc. In fact you can even walk to the Lincoln Center from this location. You can stock the kitchen with your favorite foods from Whole Foods, Trader Joes or many local mom and pop stores in the neighborhood. The apartment is a bit small but it is typical for NYC standards. It is functional and in fact quiet. We were particularly impressed with this quiet aspect (compared to other similar neighborhoods in and around town). If the opportunity avails itself we would stay here again.
Though small, the apartment had everything I needed - kitchen, desk, bathroom, internet. The location was sensational - lots of great places to eat nearby and 2 minutes walk from Central Park and subway. Jessica and Doug were very obliging and helpful - perfect hosts!
Me and my longtime girlfriend went to New York to get married in Central Park. For that reason we searched for an apartment close to the park and found this one. We had a wonderful experience and most things went smoothly. The apartment was perfect for us, very cosy and in a great neighborhood. Maybe it was a little bit to far from downtown but seeing as the subway is just a a couple of minutes walk away that really isn't a problem. The apartment could have been better cleaned and in some ways it was a little bit run down. But this is just minor issues. The overall experience was very good. Doug and Jessica also made every attempt to make sure that we had a great stay and checked in with us via text a couple of times. They were also very helpful in getting a packet (marriage dress) to us that we had delivered to them. To sum up, we can highly recommend this apartment and the next time we travel to New York it isn't impossible that we will stay there again.
It was a joy to stay in your apartment. We loved the location! It was 1/2 block from Central Park & the subway. It was in a nice, quiet neighborhood. We felt like we were in the "Cosby Show". One of the most important things for my wife was cleanliness & this apartment exceeded our expectations. We were exhausted each day & looked forward to coming "home". The bed was very comfortable & just what we needed after the long days.
Doug met us as we first arrived & showed us the apartment. He was very patient as we were delayed arriving from the airport. He gave us suggestions of places to visit & to eat. We ate at 2 of his suggested locations & they were both wonderful. Doug even had to go out of his way to help us with an issue (caused by us) & he came to our aid within 5 minutes.
If we visit NYC again we would not hesitate to stay in Doug & Jessica's apartment. We can't say enough about the wonderful experience we had on this trip. Doug & Jessica & their apartment were a huge part of this great experience.
My mom and I stayed at Doug & Jessica's Apt (our 1st time using Airbnb) during our 1st trip to NYC September 2013! Doug was very accommodating when our plane was delayed & met us at the apt. They even checked in on us throughout our trip, which was much appreciated. The location was perfect for us! The subway was very accessible being only 1/2 block away. Doug & Jessica provided us with lots of great nearby restaurants that we tried and loved them all! We felt very safe in the neighborhood, especially in the evenings coming home late at night. The apartment is small, but looks just like the pictures and is as described. The bed was comfortable and the shower had great water pressure. The window a/c unit was much appreciated after a hot day sightseeing. We felt like real New Yorkers coming home to Doug & Jessica's apartment every night; We can't imagine staying in a hotel in a busy part of the city after staying in this quiet, quaint neighborhood! Thank you Doug & Jessica!
