1. In Kauai we do not wear shoes in the home. There is a covered lanai where your shoes will stay dry.
2. Try to remove all sand prior to entering the suite.
3. In Kauai we have the highest national energy costs. Help us keep our costs down by always turning off the air-conditioning unit when your are not in the room. Note that we do have A/C (replaced the exterior unit with new on 06/2014) but the use of it is not guaranteed. If maintenance is required we do everything we can to expedite the process.
4. Please no children under the age of 16.
We love to accommodate early check-ins and late check-outs when we can. If you feel you need more time please make a request and we will check the schedule to see if it is possible. If it is not possible please honor the check-in time of 3:00 p.m. and the check-out time of 11:00 am. This give us time to make the suite nice, clean and attractive for the next guest.
The place was exactly how it was described in the listing. Clean room, large bathroom, mini fridge, coffee/hot water pot, utensils, cups, beach equipment, games, and private lanai. The only thing that strayed from the listing was the use of the common dining area/kitchen. When we arrived to the property we were told by the property manager we were not allowed to use the dining/kitchen area. It wasn't a problem though because we ate out almost every meal and utilized the private lanai when we wanted to hang out outside of the room. The place is also super close to the Grand Hyatt hotel - literally a 5 minute walk. Can't beat the location! I would definitely stay here again.
Cheryl, Thanks for the note on the description stating ' the ability to dine in the common dining area' This was for guests who had purchased the breakfast option. We are no longer on property and can no longer offer that. I will look for that sentence, but I believe it is just in your itinerary because you booked so long ago when we did offer that. I have confirmed that you did not book or pay for a breakfast option so we were fully compliant regardless. I will check my listing text to make sure it is accurate for how we run the suites today. The house is in a great location - only a few minutes walk to the Grand Hyatt, where you enjoy a sunset or a sunrise. And it's only a few minute drive to Po'ipu Beach.
The Makai Suite is very clean and modern and it's great that there is a fridge and a microwave for us to heat up food for breakfast. Also, the A/C is great during humid days.
this place is in the PERFECT location if you're staying in the south of kauai. the suite was very clean, and perfect for what we were looking for. the bed was really comfortable, and theres an AC unit.
We really enjoyed the suite, it was very clean, cosy and the garden was beautiful. We were alone in the house and could enjoy our daily breakfast in the lanai. The house is ideally located.
We have visited Oahu, Maui and Kauai, we have prefered Kauai!!!
This was our first Airbnb experience and it won't be our last!
Our sweet little nest at the corner of the house was cool and quieter than we expected. We kept the windows closed and used the A/C when getting ready or sleeping but the large floor fan plus ceiling fan would probably suffice for much of the year. The Hyatt's parking lot traffic didn't bother us at all, but maybe that's because our windows were closed. And the upstairs guests were very quiet, barely knew they were there.
We loved the outdoor covered lanai for our morning coffee and afternoon wine! Lovely garden to look at...very relaxing!
Having the Hyatt next door was so nice...being able to walk over for dinner/drinks and not drive was a plus. We drove to a local grocery store in Koloa (about a mile away) for supplies but you could stop at Safeway or Costco in Lihue before heading to Poipu. The small outdoor shopping mall with Merriman's is a good choice if you want to peruse a few menus before choosing your spot for dinner. For breakfast we took the 15-20 min. drive a few times to the Kalaheo Coffee Company because it's absolutely delicious! Very busy, local, great coffee!
We never saw Jenn and Jeff so we didn't get to experience the breakfast they used to have, but their helper gal was around when we needed some assistance.
We had no hot shower one morning, because the upstairs guests had turned it off by mistake. Fixed quickly, no big deal.
We agreed with another guest that a luggage rack would be good, but maybe there's not a good spot for one. Also, a mirror in the bedroom would be a welcome addition for getting ready so you're not sweating in the bathroom (where the fan didn't work). We moved the floor fan around (even to the lanai) to be cool. Worked great...
The bed is a bit soft for us, I believe it has one of those memory-foam pads on top, but we slept well regardless. Most people would say it's very comfy. We're just used to super-firm.
So the pluses by far outweighed any small inconveniences and we really enjoyed staying here...and of course, the price is right! Mahalo, Liz and Tom
We stayed three nights in the makai suite. The room itself was nice. It was clean and neat. They provided a shampoo/conditioner and body wash. Since we arrived late, there was no one to meet us; it was dark and difficult to figure out exactly where we were going or how to turn the lights on. Didn't see anyone on the property all weekend.
Pros: clean room, everything you need to hit up the beach is provided, private suite, close proximity to beaches and restaurants, quiet since there was no one on the property, beautiful home.
Cons: depending on time of arrival, may be difficult to find, since no one was on the property, we didn't have access to the kitchen as described on the page, however, we didn't call the property manager to find out, found it a little off-putting that the instruction stated that we were to gather all the trash and take it out ourselves.
Aloha Natialie, Thank you for the positive comments. Please note, that with any Airbnb host that if the amenities page states there is no kitchen then there is no kitchen access. We specifically state 'no kitchen' The only unit with the kitchen is the Alii suite and you did not book that. You should not hurt host with reviews when the amenities page is clear. Also note that it is common, to take out your food garbage in Hawaii this helps keep pests out of the rooms.
I stayed at the Makai Suite for four nights, and had a wonderful experience. The Suite was extremely clean, and was equipped with all essentials (towels, shampoo, etc). Having the coffee maker, tea kettle, fridge, and microwave was great, because I ended up getting a bunch of breakfast food, which saved some money to do other fun things on the island. The Hyatt is around the corner, as is the Shipwrecks beach. The Poipu beach is about a ten minute walk from the Suite. There are plenty of great food options about five to ten minutes (driving time) away. The Suite is excellently-situated for all those who want to explore the south-side of the island. I ended up going to the north shore (which I definitely recommend doing, because there are some incredible beaches out there). The north shore is about an hour away, but I was glad to have picked the south side of the island to stay on. The beaches were easy to get to from the Makai Suite, as were plenty of great restaurants. I'd definitely recommend the Suite to all couples. It's a cozy, well furnished little haven with a great garden area outside!

I have a wonderful family and we live full time on the Island of Kauai. My husband and I are engineers. Since starting with AirBnB, we have had many members from wedding parties stay with us and suggest that we provide wedding / event planning. Check us out on poipuweddings! We live with our youngest son, Connor, who is 16 and our family dog (princess) named Porsche. We love Kauai for it's nature and beauty. We love to hike, swim, board, bike and zumba.
We love to travel. Our next favorite area is Telluride / Ouray Colorado.
