The place was nice and as expected. Teia and Ally were nice and were happy to allow us to check in slightly earlier than scheduled whilst also checking out slightly later! The unit is good value for money in my opinion.
The apartment was nice and clean, with good view on small garden with jumping squirrels.
Sheets and towels a little bit old but clean.
There was easy jump to NY with just 15 min walk to Journal Sq Path.
This apartment was fantastic! Great neighborhood, I always felt safe while walking around. Parking on this street is very tough. The only tv available is the Roku, there is no basic cable or DVD player. Otherwise, the bed and couch/futon are both very comfortable & the 2 AC units work great! Very clean & spacious!
Visited with my girlfriend, her mom, and our dog for the weekend. Host was prompt in answering our request. Great spot for those on a budget and who are driving to the NYC area but prefer to use public transit in the city. As other reviewers mentioned, the rooms are a little old but that's fine, it gives it kind of a rustic, up-to-camp feel.
Pros: easy to get in the first time; secure building; unzoned parking on this and nearby streets (I got a spot the next street over); less than a mile walk to Journal Square PATH station; kitchen was fully stocked with cookware; stores just at the end of the street; furniture was comfortable.
Cons: some of the sheets were a little dirty but everything else was clean; the neighborhood didn't exactly give me a warm fuzzy feeling so we took cabs at night (but I left my car overnight two nights and nothing happened to it, so who knows).
Overall, would stay again, would recommend!
Teia was extremely nice and always there when we had any type of question or issue. we enjoy very much our stay in her apartment
Not too bad but could be better
The flat was clean
Neighboors cool with us
Very close to Newark AirPort
Owners always there to answer questions by mail or phone
Never met the owners.
Impossible to watch TV in spite of owners help
Train station a bit far from the flat, impossible to walk late in the night
Rooms were clean though a little bit old.
Not too easy to find a parking space if you arrive on car.
If you just look for a bed while visit NYC, this one will be a good pick.
Overall good location, easy to navigate to and from. No problem with available parking, and conveniently located on first floor of building. I would agree with other guests that the bed is not terribly comfortable, and given that we were in NJ during the hottest time of the year, it was quite UNCOMFORTABLE sleeping in the master bedroom with no air coming in from the single air conditioning unit located in the living room, and a ceiling fan which proved insufficient to surmount the heat. Having our daughter with us prohibited us from sleeping on the convert-a-bed in the living room, which she felt was comfortable. Fortunately most of our days were spent outside of the apartment, and in the evening the unit proved useful for having one or two guests. The neighborhood was quiet enough for sleeping and we felt safe walking about. Check in and out was a breeze, and the host was very helpful upon our arrival. We appreciated the cleanliness and convenience and would stay only if we returned during a cooler time of year.
We booked Teia's apt last minute and we didn't have many options available at that time. The communication with her was smooth and easy, she was very helpful. The apt is kind of old which we didn't expect based on the pictures. There are few things that can be improved; the mattress in the bedroom was not comfortable at all, we ended up sleeping on the futon in the living room for the whole week we were there. The bedroom was very hot during the hottest month of the year; the fan on top of the bed was very dirty, it seemed never been cleaned since long time so we could not really turn it (website hidden) was located in the living room which was too far from the bedroom so actually sleeping on the futon in living room was more comfy. There's no blind in the bedroom so you can expect you will awake from the sun bright in early morning during summer. The dining table in the kitchen was very small, even for us only 2 people. We ended up sitting on the futon to eat! If there are 3-4 people in the apt, the table won't accommodate at all. The sink tap of the kitchen was broken, no decent hook provided in the bathroom to put towel/cloth, the ironing board was kind of worn out, we had hard time to iron simple t-shirts. The location is ok but after spending the whole day in Manhattan, we just didn't feel like walking back home for another 15 mins from Path station on late night. We luckily had no problem finding parking spot on the street.
The apartment is about a 10-15 min walk from Journal Square. Although pretty basic what warrants a 4* rating is that it is very clean, is in a quiet area, is secure and is excellent value.
As a generality, the local area can fairly be described as low-income, culturally diverse and geared towards the needs of local people rather than tourists. There is a good range of food outlets and an assortment of restaurants, but it's not a place of chic cafe-bistros and upper-end shopping.
What matters far more is that people (and we met a good few) are friendly and helpful, irrespective of age, gender and ethnicity. And Teia is an absolute star - despite being 8 months pregnant she was endlessly helpful and patient with our queries. On this, there isn't a live TV feed, but there is a "Roku" system which gives access to a huge choice of recorded material. It's not a system we were familiar with, but Teia got us sorted. Anyway, we came to nibble at the Big Apple, not watch TV.
The apartment can take four people, though we felt that would be a bit of a squeeze. The bed was too soft for my dodgy back, but the convertible was firm, Although the walk to Journal Square station and then the ride across to Manhatten can take anything from 30 mins (to World Trade Centre) and over twice that to 34th St, it wasn't an irritant - though it pays to keep a copy of the PATH timetable to hand....
There are a couple of things that we think Teia could do to tweak the place, but even as it is we would stay there again. Jum & Ros Huddersfield, West Yorkshire UK
