Come stay in our cozy guest cottage on our 35 acre organic farm 25 minutes from Austin. We provide the organic locally made ingredients for you to make your breakfast before heading out to explore or just relax in the peace and quiet.
Hotel California is our cozy guest cabin on our organic farm 32 miles from downtown Austin, Texas, 25 minutes from Austin Bergstrom Airport or The Circuit of the Americas race track . Our farm is nestled in the small town of Red Rock, 8 miles south of Bastrop. Bastrop and nearby Smithville each have a beautiful old time main street with antique stores, shops, cafes, and restaurants. While in Bastrop be sure to visit the Bastrop State Park, McKinney Roughs Nature Center and the beautiful river walk along the Colorado river.
Hotel California has one queen size bed, attached bathroom with over-sized shower and kitchenette. Linens, towels and dishes are provided, along with internet access. The kitchenette has a small refrigerator, coffee maker, toaster oven, electric skillet and a hot plate. There is no microwave. A gas BBQ grill sits on your front porch. The cabin does not have television but does have wi-fi, board games and books.
Coffee and tea are included in the cabin along with a pitcher of local organic cream rising to the top whole milk. The fridge comes stocked with farm fresh eggs, delicious butter, bread or muffins, a jar of our own jam or jelly, our own granola, and fresh locally grown fruit for you to prepare your breakfast at your leisure. Please let us know when booking your reservation if you are vegan or gluten free as we would be happy to adjust. A pot of herbs grows on the front porch for your use. Additional items, such as fresh sprouts and seasonal produce can also be had depending on availability. Please ask when booking and we would be more than happy to let you know what is in season.
The amenities include the peace and quiet of our 35 acre organic farm, Winfield Farms. Take an early morning walk around our 20 acre hay field. Explore the vegetable and flower gardens. Visit with our chickens, potbelly pigs, geese, horses, or golden retrievers. Watch the sun set from the back pasture overlooking the pond. Or for those who like more action, Watterson Dance Hall is right up the road and you can often hear the music from the lawn. Check their schedule for live music and country dancing (usually every Friday and Saturday night) on their 50 year old dance floor.
We offer a private retreat from the every day. Sleep in all day, get up and head out, lose yourself in a book, or find a peaceful spot to watch the grass grow.
We understand that guests may think this is the perfect setting to bring their dog(s), but experience has shown us that even the most well behaved dogs cause undo stress to the animals who call Winfield Farm home. So in an effort to ensure peace for our cats, chickens, horses, and resident dogs, we do NOT accommodate dogs. We can recommend a great boarding facility that is close by if need be. But please do not ask to bring your dog. The answer will be no.
Feel free to roam around the farm. The commercial kitchen and of course the main house are by invitation only.
Interaction with Guests
We can interact as much or as little as you wish. We are usually around to answer questions or give tours as this is a working farm and someone is usually around. Of course we also have guests who have visited a few times who we have never even seen...your choice.
Our neighbors are human, animal, and insect. Mostly they are quiet and keep to themselves. Periodically one, or all, might be noisy or intrusive. Ok, the humans are usually the best behaved and keep their distance. The barn cats and one of the horse would love to sit in your lap.
There is no public transportation out here.
Other Things to Note
This is an organic working farm out in the country. We have bugs and grass and weeds and animals. If any of these things worry you, we might not be the best place for you. We try to update pictures but things always change around here. Gardens may be done for the season, or in full production. It is always changing.
We don't have a lot of rules except no smoking inside the cabin and we do not allow pets to visit. In the past we allowed guests on occasion to bring their "well behaved" dogs, but we found that when in this environment, they tend to forget their manners. We understand how hard it is to refrain from chasing such lovely new "toys" like our resident chickens, cats, and goats, so in the interest of keeping the peace, pets must stay home.
Since we do grow specialty items for restaurants, we ask that you refrain from helping yourself to the farm produce. Please ask first, chances are it will be ok, but we would hate to have to explain to our chefs exactly where their produce went. Oh and be a dear and wash the dishes you used before checking out.
What a nice way to enjoy the Hill Country! The unit was immaculate and stocked with all sorts of organic goodies. The owner even brought me some fresh milk! I had a short stay but enjoyed it. I would recommend Hotel California to anyone staying around the area east of Austin. Thanks again!
Winfield farms was amazing! We almost got out engagement photos done there but decided to get them done in Austin instead. But it's a beautiful place! The fresh breakfast goodies really made our stay. We also loved the grill and fresh herbs outside of the guesthouse. If you are still trying to decide whether to stay here or not, then just stop searching and book this guesthouse already!
Our stay at Hotel California was easy at every step, restful, and beautiful.
We drove in early evening. Winfield Farm was easy to find. The cottage was clean and up to date, with quaint cottage aesthetic accents.
We didn't get to wander the farm very much nor did we get to sample the farm eggs, butter, milk, or bread left for us because we had to leave at 4am for a running race--but it all looked delicious!!
I would like to return some day for the full experience. It was also great to stay at a farm that provides food for some of our favorite restaurants in Austin. Kind of a behind the scenes peek.
We had a wonderful stay at Winfield Farms! The cottage offered just the right amount of space for me and my husband. We really enjoyed the fresh eggs and milk provided, as well as the granola, fresh fruit, and cheese. We found everything we needed in the kitchen and it was really easy to make a leisurely breakfast in the morning.
One of my favorite parts was making my coffee, wandering outside, greeting the farm cats and chickens, and then seeing what was happening on the farm. Everyone we met was very friendly, ready to answer our questions and have a conversation. We even got to hold a few of the new kittens that had been born a little while before our visit! We also met the new goslings, though not quite as up close and personal.
All in all, our stay was really relaxed, comfortable, and peaceful. There is a grocery store about 15-20 minutes north of the farm that we grabbed a couple essentials from. We were away during the day on the one full day we had at the farm, but next time, I'd love to stay longer and spend more time there. It really is a wonderful getaway, without being that far from Austin. They try to keep the farm private since that is also their home, which I very much respected and appreciated, since it also means we had a very quiet stay away from the hustle and bustle of life. I look forward to the next time we can visit!
Very comfortable and homey accommodations, with everything you need. We enjoyed playing with the chickens and kitties, and really appreciated the delicious granola and fresh eggs. Thanks!
We appreciated the thoughtful little touches that made our stay wonderful--from detailed directions on arriving, to the wonderful granola and breakfast goodies in the fridge.
A big part of the charm is that this is a farm--so be ready for rooster wake-up calls! The farm cats are super sweet, and the whole family (momma cat, tomcat and three kittens) came by to say hello as we moved our suitcases out of the car. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.
This is the kind of place that makes you remember how awesome it is to live in Texas. So close to town and so far into the country! We loved this modern "cabin" that included all the comforts of home. We pigged out on the fresh butter, bread, and eggs and slept great on the comfortable bed.
The windows were open to let the breeze cool us in the afternoon and a space heater was provided to cut the chill in the morning. Just being around the animals and seeing a working farm does wonders for our souls.
