The Space

Large 3 story historic house that has been renovated. The house is in a quaint private courtyard, which is a minor tourist attraction. Betsy Ross walks through on her way to work each day (the reenactor). While a little hard to find, it’s on a walking street, it's a quiet gem in the city.
There are 2 bedrooms and a full bath on the 2nd floor. The bath is private. I live on the 3rd floor.

Historic Loxley Court provides a quiet oasis in the middle of a great neighborhood.

Guest Access

There is a full kitchen on the 1st floor and laundry in the basement.

The Neighborhood

The neighborhood is great. I have lots of restaurant recommendations.
Old City has many art galleries, clothing boutiques, cafes and restaurants.

Just 2 blocks from Ben Franklin's house, supposedly the key on his famous kit came from the house across the courtyard, at least that is what the internet says.

Getting around

There is easy access to public transportation. The subway is 2 blocks away, buses are even closer, and the regional rail is 6 blocks. It is a 15 min subway ride to Amtrak. The convention center is 7 blocks away.

  • My wife and I loved the location -- it's close to everything. The room was quiet and clean and the courtyard was a treat.

  • The room was clean, bright and airy. We never saw Russel, but it was clear that the space was well taken care of.

  • We enjoyed staying with Russel. The house was beautiful and the bed and amenities were top-notch. He provided many useful brochures for our exploration of the charming little neighborhood, and the keyless door entry was very convenient.

  • Russ was a great host to my parents. They were here from Alabama, and Russ made sure they were taken care of. Very neat apartment with awesome location! Thanks again, Russ!

  • Thank you so much for this wonderful week at your home!
You have an amazing house and it was the perfect place to rest and recharge in between the busy conference hours. We enjoyed our stay and felt very much at home. I hope I will have the chance to come back one day.

  • Great spot in a great city. Right in the heart of all the historic attractions, near great local spots, and reasonable walking distance to NoLibs, Chinatown, South Street, and downtown. Stayed with a colleague of mine while attending a conference at the Marriott (15min walk). Had the whole second floor to ourselves, private rooms and our own bathroom. Met Russ briefly...was a nice guy and readily provided a tip to check out a spot near the conference center. Not much interaction aside from that...he did his thing, we did ours...exactly what we were looking for. Thanks, again, for the accommodation, Russ.

  • Russel has an excellent place within the old city of Philadelphia. The large room makes you feel well, and the bathroom next to it has all necesseities. Even the cortyard of the house is a gem, and hanging out there could be an alternative (though the climate during our was to chilly). Most interesting storic places are within footwalk distance, so Russels place is a good choice.

  • In Philly for a conference - didn't see much of the others, but the place is nice and the location good. Would definitely recommend.

  • I was in Philadelphia due to an exam I had to take and spend the first three days studying. The house is located in a very quite and nice area with a very good coffee shop just around the corner and a lovely seafood restaurant nearby. Russel was a very nice host always helpful and answering all the questions we had. As I was traveling with my mother who is disabled its not always that easy and interestingly people can be very unfriendly. Well Russel was great with her and we felt very welcome. Thank you a lot for making it the exam period a little bit less bad!

What a treat to stay in a 1750's town house in Old City! My walk to the convention center passed the Constitution Center, Independence Hall, the Mint, Chinatown and Reading Terminal Market. Great breakfast around the corner at Cafe Ole. Comfortable room. Eclectic taste. Charming people.
Bonus: My daughter came to visit one night and Russ invited her to stay in the spare room. It was a sweet suite deal!

I enjoy living in Old City in Philly. It is a little village in the city with a great local ecosystem of coffee shops and cafes, tech companies and design, all of which I enjoy supporting. I am a research scientist (biophysics) that travels extensively for work, which is fun, although I always enjoy returning home. I enjoy running over the Ben Franklin bridge; the views are great and change throughout the day.
