About this listing

A beautiful, quiet guest house nestled in the hills overlooking downtown LA surrounded by trees and birds.

The space

Nestled in the hills of Mt. Washington overlooking Downtown LA and Elysian Park, this quaint back house studio is surrounded by a serene garden full of butterflies, hummingbirds and the occasional flock of wild parrots. The home is walking distance to cafes, restaurants, supermarkets, buses, the LA River and the Gold metro rail line that runs North to Highland Park and Pasadena and South to Downtown LA and East LA (with connections across the city). The property is in the middle of a quiet, safe hill full of great old houses and incredible views to Downtown and the San Bernardino Mountain range. There are many great parks and places to hike, run and explore within walking distance. Highland Park is an eclectic neighborhood not too far away with lots of great restaurants, cafes, and shops. Atwater Village is also a short distance and offers some great restaurants, cafes and an excellent Farmer's Market on Sundays. Eagle Rock is another great neighborhood not too far away.

The home is styled with an eclectic mix of mid century furnishings and textiles with some modern amenities including a brand new kitchenette with an electric stovetop, tiled bathroom and laminate wood floors. This is a great place to unwind and relax. There is a TV with roku (good for netflix and streaming) and plenty of great indoor and outdoor areas to read and work including a picnic area, firepit and lounge at the top of the terraced back yard with views to Downtown skyscrapers, Elysian Park, the Griffith Park Observatory and the Hollywood Sign on a clear day.

Please note, there are some steps to access the casita so try to bring stair-friendly luggage!

Guest access

Back house, garden, fire pit, picnic table, hammock.

Interaction with guests

I like to allow space for my guests to have privacy but am in the front house most mornings and evenings and during the weekend. I'm also always available via airbnb messages and my phone.

Other things to note

This is a great spot for someone who wants to be near the city but feel a bit removed. There's lots of birds, trees and quiet. It's not in the middle of everything but with a car or a willingness to take public transit it's ideal.

I had a wonderful stay at Ethan's Casita! Ethan was amazing with communication and made sure I had everything I needed to be comfortable. The backhouse is very private and has access to an awesome outdoor seating area with a great view of LA. The bed was very comfy and parking was easy. I would definitely stay again. Also, the keypad entry makes for a very easy check-in.

Located in a quiet neighborhood. The casita was very lovely, clean, and comfortable. Ethan was a great host and quick with responding to texts and/or emails, and when we got to the casita there was a list with recommendations of where to eat in LA and a greeting from Ethan which was very thoughtful and made us felt welcomed. I would highly recommend Ethan's casita and I would definitely stay there again.

Was such a great stay! Ethan was very responsive and made our comfort a priority. There was even coffee and pancake mix for us!! We loved the outdoor spaces with the hammock and fire pit. Parking on the street was not an issue at all, was very easy to navigate in and out.

Ethan User ProfileEthan is a superhost.

What's up guys, I'm Ethan. I'm originally from Brookline, Massachusetts, just outside Boston and have been fortunate to have traveled and lived in many parts of the world. Before LA I lived in Sydney, Australia. I've also lived in Philadelphia and Barcelona, Spain. I love music, design, architecture and creative projects. These days I work quite a bit as a founder of a custom fashion startup company called Apliiq, we collect hundreds of unique and classic fabrics and provide them as an interactive palate for customizing everyday garments and accessories. When I'm not working I enjoy riding my bike, cooking, exploring new neighborhoods, hiking, surfing and going on local day trips and excursions.

I'm always looking for opportunities to improvise and forget time and schedules for a little while. I also enjoy getting really into making things and turning my ideas into realities.
