Our first encounter was cordial. He provided a good explanation about the house and devices such as TV, AC and wifi and phone. He also provided us with the name of a friend who provided us information about Buenos Aires. To our great surprise, he required US$200 cash deposit…
Response from Cameron:
Milena, thanks for highlighting this point for everybody: there is a cash security deposit required on arrival. As detailed in the House Rules, the automatic Airbnb confirmation email, and my first message with the check-in details, it's explained that this amount will be returned in full (the actual same dollar bills that you give me) at the checkout if there are no damages or breakages. This is why I do a 'walkthrough' with you at the checkout, so that we can both see if there is in fact anything damaged or broken. As regards your other comments I feel I should clarify the facts, as unfortunately you have misrepresented them. You asked for the checkout at 7:30am. I arrived at 7:32am. You had already vacated the apartment, having sent an email at 7:20am asking me to be there right then. I'm glad the extra delay didn't cause you to miss your flight. As you are well aware, there are in fact plates (and bowls, cups, and wine and water glasses; 6 of each). You asked for additional smaller plates that are not supplied with the apartment. Both bathrooms had a new toilet roll and an extra one. Apologies if this was not enough for 5 days. In the checkout I asked whether the extra duvet and set of sheets for the sofa-bed had been used, as they had been unpacked and then stuffed back in their bag. This was to know whether they needed to be washed. Your husband said he was unsure if your other daughter had stayed and had to message you to check, after which he said that they were not used. That was helpful to know. In terms of being responsive, when you asked me for the detergent and the extra bin for the toilet, I provided both within an hour of your request. In the checkin I gave you my (Hidden by Airbnb) and made a specific point of asking you to contact me straight away with any queries or problems. You did not do this, only telling me your unhappiness at the lack of the bin, etc. when I happened to cross paths with you in the building while going to another apartment. I understand that you are new to Airbnb and seem to have got off to a rocky start: you mentioned you had persuaded Airbnb to refund the entirety of your only previous stay. If I may give you some advice that might help you avoid future problems: look at the pictures and description of the listing to get an accurate idea of the place; read the reservation details and the emails sent to you by the host; listen to what they tell you during the check-in; and don't be afraid to contact them with any queries during your stay, especially if they have explicitly asked you to do so. Hopefully in this way you will avoid a mismatch of your expectations versus reality, and the visit will be more pleasant and agreeable for everybody.
