Guest Access

You will have a private bedroom and bathroom. The entire basement is mostly private we only go down there to do laundry and access storage and we try to limit that while we have guests. You also have access to our upstairs kitchen and dining room provided that you clean up after yourself. The TV room has a TV & DVD player. You can use the laundry room for a small fee. The rear of the house upstairs is off limits to guests.

Interaction with Guests

My wife or I will greet you when you arrive and show you around the house. After that some guests choose to eat dinner with us in our dining room, or visit with us while they are preparing meals. Others keep to themselves and stay in the basement. It's up to the guest and what they feel comfortable with.

We have a friendly dog and 2 kids. We are a quiet family and the basement room is secluded from the rest of the house so your stay will be relaxing.

The Neighborhood

Our neighborhood is close to downtown without being in the middle of the bustling city. It's a quiet street with little traffic. Yet just a few blocks away is a main thoroughfare for bus and train lines.

We are 4 blocks from Liberty Park, an amazing park with a jogging track, bike path, pond, aviary, playground and water features. We have some great restaurants and bars nearby and would be happy to make recommendations.

Getting around

We are 0.3 miles or a 5 min walk from a major bus line, and less then a mile or 15 min's from the train stop that services the city and airport. If you are using a car to get around we have plenty of on street parking.

If you are visiting Utah for our amazing snow, the ski bus picks up passengers not far from us. We may even give you a ride if we're on our way to the slopes as well.

  • My 2 day stay at Ian's was reduced to 1 day due to a reschedule on my part .
Ian was extra helpful, solving an I phone issue.
    I enjoyed the stay.

  • I had a very restful stay at Ian's home while attending a convention at Salt Palace. Ian responded to my questions via text and made sure I understood how the combination lock on the door worked. When I arrived he and his wife introduced me to their kids and to their large dog so she would not growl or bark if they were not home when I came in at night. The room was comfortable and cool and I had plenty of privacy. The backyard is cozy for getting outside for a short time and a reasonable walk from a large beautiful park with an amazing fountain and an aviary. It was about a third of a mile to a bus stop on State St and a transfer will get you to the train to go downtown or to the airport. Local bus service stopped at 10 pm on weeknights, so I took a cab back once. Their street is a good neighborhood- going east toward the park gets better; State street is more run down.

  • We've arrived late and stayed only 1 night at Ian's place so we could talk only a few words. Ian and his wife are very friendly and helpful. They have a very funny dog. The basement was comfortable, well equipped and clean.

  • This is a spacious basement apt. and very clean. I was amazed how respectful the family above was regarding noise . The family did not bother us at all and had the sweetest older dog. I would definitely stay there again.

  • This quiet spot is a great little haven not far from the bustle of the city. It is comfortable and clean and Ian and his family are great hosts. I have stayed here before and will probably continue to stay on my visits to SLC. It is private and an easy access to both the downtown and Sugar House areas.

Friendly environment with cozy basement just for you.
Really enjoyed staying and will book it again for my next trip. One of the best in the city breakfast places in walking distance too!

Being a father of two adorable daughters takes up the majority of my free time. What's left over I spend in the mountains skiing in the winter and biking in the summer. We love family hikes, and spend a lot of time in the mountains surrounding Salt Lake. Time spent indoors is usually in front of my computer playing games, around the table playing board games, or reading a good book. We love traveling as well and go on at least one big trip a year. We like the mountains of course, heading up north in the summer to Wyoming or Montana. But we also love the beach and try to get to the pacific every couple of years.
