About This Listing
Our basement has a quaint spare room with a cozy full size bed waiting for visitors. You'll have use of a private bathroom and our family room with TV and DVD player. We have Wifi and Ethernet connections to get online.
You will have a private bedroom and bathroom. The entire basement is mostly private we only go down there to do laundry and access storage and we try to limit that while we have guests. You also have access to our upstairs kitchen and dining room provided that you clean up after yourself. The TV room has a TV & DVD player. You can use the laundry room for a small fee. The rear of the house upstairs is off limits to guests.
Interaction with Guests
My wife or I will greet you when you arrive and show you around the house. After that some guests choose to eat dinner with us in our dining room, or visit with us while they are preparing meals. Others keep to themselves and stay in the basement. It's up to the guest and what they feel comfortable with.
We have a friendly dog and 2 kids. We are a quiet family and the basement room is secluded from the rest of the house so your stay will be relaxing.
Our neighborhood is close to downtown without being in the middle of the bustling city. It's a quiet street with little traffic. Yet just a few blocks away is a main thoroughfare for bus and train lines.
We are 4 blocks from Liberty Park, an amazing park with a jogging track, bike path, pond, aviary, playground and water features. We have some great restaurants and bars nearby and would be happy to make recommendations.
We are 0.3 miles or a 5 min walk from a major bus line, and less then a mile or 15 min's from the train stop that services the city and airport. If you are using a car to get around we have plenty of on street parking.
If you are visiting Utah for our amazing snow, the ski bus picks up passengers not far from us. We may even give you a ride if we're on our way to the slopes as well.
Be respectful and friendly.
Absolutely No Smoking, Drugs or Guns.
Your room is as far as possible from our other bedrooms so normal everyday noise should not be an issue at any time, that being said no blasting loud music or TV after 10 pm weeknights or 11 on weekends.
Feel free to use the kitchen but not our food, bring or buy your own please, and clean up after yourselves in the kitchen.
If you need the Washer and Dryer we just ask for 50 cents per load to cover detergent.
Friendly house trained dogs allowed. Sorry no cats, we are allergic.
Ian was a great host! He has a lovely family and a very well-mannered dog. They made us feel at home and helped us feel welcome. Our little dog loved playing with and teasing their big dog Grace, and she was so patient and fun. Living there for a month was very comfortable and relaxing. We loved the front door code lock that allowed us to come and go without a key. It was great to be able to use their kitchen if we ever wanted to cook something, and they totally left the basement to us (except of course to do laundry, but then it was just down and back up). It was the most homey way to spend our time between moves! We had a couch and living area with a big TV, a bathroom with a shower and medicine cabinet, and a bedroom with a nice dresser and closet with hangers. Everything we could ask for and more. Thank you Ian and family!!
Ian and his wife were friendly, laid-back, and helpful. Their home and room were exactly as described, clean and comfortable. Centrally located and easy to find, and close to a lot of cool SLC neighborhood spots. It was a great stopover on the way to Moab and I slept very well.
Ian and his family were very friendly and inviting with myself and my dog Anna. He opened up the entire basement as space for us and politely stayed out of that space while I was there. Even his dog Grace stayed upstairs. He was very great about giving me recommendations and his place is centrally located between downtown Salt Lake and many hiking locations in the mountains. I would definitely stay here again if I'm ever in Salt Lake.
It was really nice staying here with Ian and his family.; the basement is very comfortable and spacious, the neighborhood is nice, and they have a great dog. I stayed here for a month and drove to Brighton almost every day. I would definitely recommend staying here.
I stayed with Ian for one night at the beginning of a long cross-country road trip. Although I was only here for a quick stay, it was exactly what I was looking for. Ian was a wonderful host...very easy going and accommodating. The room was very private, quiet and clean. A perfect AirBnB experience!
About the Host, Ian
Being a father of two adorable daughters takes up the majority of my free time. What's left over I spend in the mountains skiing in the winter and biking in the summer. We love family hikes, and spend a lot of time in the mountains surrounding Salt Lake. Time spent indoors is usually in front of my computer playing games, around the table playing board games, or reading a good book.
We love traveling as well and go on at least one big trip a year. We like the mountains of course, heading up north in the summer to Wyoming or Montana. But we also love the beach and try to get to the pacific every couple of years.
