Arrived hot and sweaty to be greeted by Martin with a personal tour. He opened his house to us and told us to make use of what we needed from his fridge and cupboards. Great French toast and fresh brewed fresh ground coffee! We didn't have time to dine much more in the apartment as we were too busy seeing all the sites and trying out the amazing food venues in the neighbourhood which Martin had told us about. The Big Bear cafe was worth a second visit and we ate there for dinner one day and brunch another. We also tried out the Boundary Stone which offered amazing moules frites in lemongrass paprika and tomato, with whiskey from Islay in the inner Hebrides for that taste of home! We found our own little star breakfast diner, B&Js, jut up the road, for the intrepid. Martin and Sofia's apartment was brilliantly situated for transport into the city by metro and bus. It was clean and homely and the host, Martin, went out of his way above and beyond to make sure we enjoyed our trip. He even found space for a wayward Aunt who left her own accommodation arrangements until the last moment. We shall definitely be going back to Washington and if we have the opportunity to stay with Martin again we will. Highly recommended. .

Lovely apartment! It's located in the back of the building, facing a very quiet street. The apartment is in a transitional neighborhood. We drove everywhere and discovered that DC traffic can be very congested during rush hours. The building entrance is run down with a broken door handle. The apartment is on the fourth floor with no elevator. Because we were moving our son out of college, we had lots of heavy luggage that we had to haul up four flights of stairs. The hallway carpet was filthy with a bit of a smell. The apartment itself had no TV, and no easy way of making coffee (there was a coffee maker but its' glass container was nowhere to be found). The apartment itself was very nice with very comfortable futon beds in both bedrooms. The wifi was fast and worked well.

Martin and Sofia were the ideal hosts. We were greeted by chocolates and a bottle of wine and a lovely note from them both. Martin was very responsive and available during our visit, by both phone and email. We regret that we didn't get to meet them in person because we truly enjoyed staying in their home. It was clean, comfortable and quiet, which is why we didn't even mind the 4th floor walk up. Parking was easy except for the weekdays when we had to move the car between 7:30 and 9:30, but we used the metro everyday anyways, which was about a 12 minute walk. Thanks so much Martin and Sofia for your hospitality!

Martin and Sofia are wonderful! I arrived on Friday in the pouring rain, and found a wonderful bottle of red wine and a note from my hosts welcoming me to the apartment, telling me that I could help myself to the food, and use anything I needed. I happened to meet both of them that night when they stopped by to drop off some orange juice and muffins for the next day. Martin drove me to the corner store so I could pick up some provisions. The apartment is bright and airy with lots of light. It is about a 10 minute walk to the metro, which is about 7-8 blocks. I had no trouble getting around, as it is centrally located in a safe area. The neighbors are wonderful, and will give you directions and recommendations for the area. Martin is a treasure trove of information, and will give you restaurant and bar recommendations if you need it. We had a memorable time, and would recommend the apartment to anyone!

We had a lovely time in DC. Martin was more than helpful, and allowed us to enjoy the city without having anything to worry about. The place was spotless, and due to its location it was very easy to get around.

Martin's place is lovely and comfortable. We had a great time in his apartment, and he was very helpful to us in telling us the area and letting us borrow his car to get groceries!! We comfortably slept the 4 of us - two adults and 2 children. We were 15 min. walk from the metro and did a lot of sightseeing. It felt safe for us (2 women and 2 boys) to walk around the area. The one thing I will say is that if you are from suburbia as we are, it is very loud to be in the city. The sounds and the light made it a bit difficult for us to sleep, especially on weekend nights. Not a criticism of him or his place, but something to know if you are used to quiet. Thank you Martin & Sofia!

I live with my daughter in Washington, DC and very much enjoy the Bloomingdale neighborhood.
We love to travel, meet new people, and go out.
We discovered the airbnb way of traveling, like it a lot, and decided to try listing our own apartment when we are away.
